Default Boots better for Pole Work ?

Is it easier to do pole tricks wearing boots on rather than heels ? I notice alot of the people in pole trick videos and pic are wearing boots. What is the deal with that ? Is is just a coincedece ?

I am wondering if I should invest in some boots while I am teaching myself to do more advanced pole work. What do the pole pros here think ?

What about grip chalk ? Is it messy ? I have a powder coated black pole and don't want to damage the paint- is grip chalk safe for my type of pole ?

    Thanks !

I actually just bought some knee-high boots so I can practice more advanced moves. They definitely help grip the pole better and make it easier to climb. I also ordered some thigh-high boots since some of these ladies recommended those as well.

If you search the boards, you'll find similar threads. Most women say they do make it easier to do tricks.

    Good luck,
    Kat

I may have to buy a pair of knee boots then because I am having trouble climbing the pole.

I'm getting fairly comfortable with several spins and slides now and I think I could do some other stuff if I could ust up there a bit higher !

Make it a "shiny patent leather" finish (most boots are plastic.) Grips better- to brass finish. I don't know about powder coated, never used one.

Boots help a lot to climb and grip onto poles with my experience. But becareful of the lace-up boots. In my newbie pole days I had knee high lace up boots and I was doing pole tricks when the laces on one of my boots came untied and tangled in the other boots metal lace-brackets. I was embarassingly stuck for a minute or so while I untangled myself and I could have fallen or hurt myself if I hadnt noticed quickly enough. The zip up or pull on boots are a lot better. And the leather boots are better than the plastic ones. (the cheaper boots will ruin easily too, because the pole will scratch and smudge off the plastic paint from the surface of it, and they wont look pretty for long.)

Never used a powder coated pole, but boots do help to climb and stick to the pole, but if you plan on doing moves where you slide down the pole while gripping with your legs you might want to skip them, because in my experience they don't really budge. They can also get sticky while doing floorwork if you slide your legs around. If your problem is just climbing the pole, you could also try wearing heels w/plastic on top (the clear band that covers the top of your foot) and wedging that against the pole-that's how I get started when climbing.

I was thinking of picking up a pair of the tight, no laces or zipper, pull on style boots... with the 6 inch clear heel and 2 inch platform.

Anyone here have experience with that grip chalk stuff ?

Those vinyl or patent leather boots sure do help you grip the pole better with your legs and feet! And keep you from getting "pole burn" in those areas. I like to use thigh high boots sometimes, and they make a HUGE difference.

Don't use chalk. Golfers have a "gel" or lotion that disappears. I posted a link to one a while back ago. Let me see if I can find it. I have Dry Grip...

To all the girls that wear boots, you have my eternal (and frequently, financial) gratitude.

Boots most definatly make it easier to climb the pole. I also second the no boots with laces. I had a pair like that and they got tangled while I was upside down on the pole. I actually had to hang there until another girl came up on stage and got me untangled.

    awesome. Thanks !

I was concerned about that grip chalk getting on other stuff like my clothes or carpet and making a mess. This golfers stuff looks much better

Agreed, boots make climbing and grip way easier. Personally I find leather boots very slippery so yeah go with either the patent leather or the PVC. The other problem with lace up boots and pole tricks is that if it has those hook things you zig zag the laces around they can get bent in and then it's really hard to lace and unlace the boots if you don't have a zipper on them.

Boots are a MUST for major pole work! I learned pole work with boots and floor work as well wearing them. After a time, you will be able to do pole tricks without boots!!!!!
