    TLC for Denim Jeans?

I had to throw out jeans that looked and felt "dried out" from storage and not wearing them....I noticed my nice pair of Earl Jeans shrank after being line-dried, which stinks....
Is fabric softener worth using? I thought it made clothes "slimy" over time. Or does it "condition" the fabric?
Just wondering if there's any advice for making denim last longer. You know how hard it is to find a nice pair of jeans!

I always have to buy new jeans, but for a totally different reason- they always rip right under the back pockets (and don't start with the big butt jokes)! I wish I knew how to keep my jeans around longer- I find a favorite pair, and then they fall apart right after!

Whenever I find jeans that I like (which isnt' often), I buy 2-3 pairs of them. Try drying them on low/delicate, as well. I wash them with a lot of other clothes (not other jeans) so they're not rubbing up against each other.

I used to always have jeans wear out in the knees (and no, not from that), but lately I haven't been having that problem. Probably because I own too many for each to get that much wear. I would suggest washing in cold water on gentle, maybe even turning inside out. Then just air dry...

I ALWAYS turn jeans inside-out b/4 washing. I also always wash in cold. I believe the dryer is harsher than washer, so I dry a short time, then take out & hang to dry. There are some great mending kits on the shopping chanels (qvc & hsn) if you're so inclined. My jeans seem to last pretty long so I must be doin' someithing right. & they are NOT the expensive kind. MM, that sounds bogus for the Earls. Maybe you should right to them? It sounds like they did not use pre-shrunk material (a must!).

Good advice whirlerz. If anyone knows of a hypoallergenic fabric softener, please post it.

Have you tried Dreft? I used it on baby clothes...
