    Default DJ stole my music

I know it's lame to put labels on public music, and I'm not one of those dancers that's into "that's my set," but I am soooo pissed....

I try to find and use music that the other dancers don't dance to so that 1-people dont have to listen to the same shit over and over and 2-to set myself apart. So...when the DJ got a new laptop to feed his MP3's into our system and WITHOUT ASKING downloaded all my CDs into his computer and proceeded to play my songs for other girls (and waste them on breaksongs) I wanted to fucking strangle him. I'm just ranting but also wondering...anyone else ever had this problem? I know I should get over it (I already know it's petty and inane) but...wasn't that just a little bit rude on his behalf?

I think it was rude to download your cds without asking first. They aren't his property.

Yea I used to have music that was "mine". It was not cool of him to DL your music to his comp. w/ telling you at least and now playing your stuff to other girls. When I knew a good dj to take care of me and have my music just for me...Id tip him a bit more than I would b/c hes being curtious. Otherwise, let him know you only like dancing to that stuff and tip him accordingly I guess.

Be glad he didn't steal your CD's I had a whole carrier of carefully crafted CD's that I took to work (weeks of work to compile this). Songs that no one else used. STOLEN. Gone forever.

Ugh, this happened to me before. I used to dance to certain bands that people never even HEARD of! This one DJ started playing them for other girls. I didn't like do anything because it was dumb... but it was still like, "HEY!". Did you mention... nicely... to him that you kinda put the music out there for YOU? Maybe there's something else behind it?

Yeah, they're famous for this crap. It's how most of them get most of their music. Fuckers.

I've FINALLY got the assholes at my club trained to leave my stuff alone, with the agreement that once I'm tired of stuff I've brought in they can use it as much as they want. My new stuff however, is OFF fucking LIMITS!!! I don't spend hours upon hours finding hot new unique songs that fit MY style so every other twat can dance to it I spend the time finding it for ME. DAMMITT!!!!

So all you DJs out there, leave girls' music alone!

You need to tell him straight out that if he wants to continue receiving tips from you, he will stop that bullshit.

Yeah....I haven't been tipping his as well and when he asked why I told him it's because of the music, then he denied ever taking the music from my CDs in the first place. One of the songs was from my best friend's band, so I KNOW they were my CDs...

Ugh. I hate working with this DJ so much. He also told me that he "makes more money than the dancers because he works twice as hard so I should be tipping him extra." Rrrright.

For working in this industry for as long as he has, I think he's got it a little backwards. Sometimes I think that they take for granted the time dancers take carefully selecting their music....

Yeah I think that him uploading your music without asking and then using it for other girls was rude and ignorant. A DJ I use to work with in Florida got a laptop like that and said "Hey can I please upload your music so that I will have it on hand? I really need more Metallica and you have it." So I said of course. He never played the music for anyone else but me and one other girl, so I didn't mind. It was cool of him to ask first. I'm one of the few girls at my current club who bring my own music. I deliberately only bring 10 - 15 CDs at a time to prevent the risk of losing all my 50+ stripping CDs. Occasionally the DJs will ask if they can use my music for another girl and I always agree simpley because the DJs are REALLY good about it here and very polite about asking. They are always very grateful too. I don't mind helping them out when they are so cool about it.

OOPS: You're going to fuck up. The record will skip or you'll be distracted by some drunk kid telling you how much "Bizarre Love Triangle" means to him or you'll let two Wire songs play in a row. No big whup. Everyone's too wasted to care. You should be too. Just take the opportunity to make announcements. I usually shout out important information such as, "Don't stop the rock, motherfuckers!" or "I need to pee!"

REQUESTS: Try not to cry when people request Missy Elliott, again. Or "Hey Ya!" or "Milkshake." Or Cher when you are spinning Minor Threat. Or simply "hip-hop." Or any genre of music, in fact. You wouldn't believe how often people request an entirely different genre of music than what the DJ is playing. It's infuriatingly rude. You're telling the DJ that you hate his or her music. If you don't like what I'm playing, wait 10 fucking minutes and I'll be onto a new thing anyway.

The DJing isn't the hard part of the job. It's dealing with the dancers, juggling all their wants and needs along with the customers and the clubs.

dj's in every part of their business are notorious for stealung music whether they take your cd's and somehow someone else took it while it was in their possession or they illegally download music.

If I givea dj a cd im giving them one I copied from my cd to a blank. This wont stop them from playing your music for another girl. This is one of thew few reasons why we need to get stricter controls on dj's in clubs. I think management needs to look at this issue and relay to the dj that they should only be heard from and not seen. no one comes to see them. Its part of the ambience not the show itself.

By the way that is ILLEGAL. The FBI can and does investigate and prosecute that, as they have done here in the last year or two - neighborhood stores, club DJs, etc.

Also clubs have to pay BMI and ASCAP their royalties. Bet few of them do that in spite of many investigations. I believe that is just a quarterly payment based on business type.

It is BEST to make your own personal dance mixes so the DJ can't get to all of your music. Now, I don't know about the legality of making mixes for club use, though it can be done legally for personal use. It is also much less wear and tear on those $15 CDs.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I understand that some DJs don't do a very good some and it may seem better without them. But you know alot of us work hard and have very good relationships with the dancers. No one wants to have problems with anyone at work wether it be a bartender, bouncer or DJ. If everyone works hard to get along, in the long run they will all likely make more money.

In almost any job, you have to deal with the wants and needs of other people you work with.

I think the DJs deserve a little more credit than we are giving them. There are some great strip club DJs out there. What about the guy who has the best lines to get the customers fired up and up to the stage tipping? DJs with wicked good Mic skills are very valuable, they can make us more money and add to the over all atmosphere of the club. Last night I was really happy with the DJ that was on. Dave at the Satin Doll here in Rhode Island. I was doing my saloon girl thing all night so I was playing all country. I really wanted to use a CD that I hadn't used in ages that had one of my favorite rare Charlie Daniels songs on it. The problem was the CD was old and worn and that track was skipping so bad on my home CD player it wouldn't work at all. Dave knew how to speed the tempo up or something so that it didn't skip and it came out perfect. That may be simple but it meant a lot to me that he did that and didn't just yell about bringing a trashed CD. So I want to thank the DJs who go out of their way to help us out and make the club a better place for everyone.

Ditto, this is isn't the first DJ rant that I have seen on here.
I know that at some clubs a dj is great and I've worked in a few of them, but I really do prefer to pick my own music from the box, even if it's the same old song all the time. No offense to any djs out there, but I quit working at dj clubs because of things like this.
I too, used try and find the rarest of the rare and the djs either permanently borrowed the cd, used it for others or gave it back scratched to hell. And this started at clubs where we only had about 10 to 20 girls a night so, the escuse of dealig wiht too many dancers couldn't be used.
And just as djs have to deal with dancers that are high or drunk, there are also dancers that aren't so if you don't want to be lumped together with the bad djs, don't try to lump us all together.
There should be no escuse for doing a crappy job. We pay you to do your job, if you don't do it right do we have the option to not pay you? Usually not! We are required to pay a minimum amount and up to 10% of what we make.
So of course we get upset when part of the money we just bumped and grinded to get goes to a dj that shows no interest in our opinions.
That said, there are djs that are great out there, but I have found them to be few and far between.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Yeah, yeah, this is a little late in the game.
But without DJ's, a good DJ, the whole party scene would not exist.

THE JOB: It’s important to know that the good DJs are the nerve center of the operation and, like Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island, they can arrange whatever it takes to get that 9-5 tie around your sex-deprived head. As Marcus, a DJ from Vancouver, eloquently sums it up: “Let me put this in Star Trek terms. The club is the bridge and we are the engineering.” The DJs not only play music, they get to give dancers fines for being late, tell dancers they can’t go on stage when they’re too drunk (the blind leading the blind) and convince the crowd to buy VIP dances by screaming things like: “Who wouldn’t want to fuck her, eh?” In return, the dancers will sometimes whip a bottle at their heads.

Insider tips for aspiring DJs (from the mouths of the pros):
On sex: “Never take the dancers to your home. Rent a hotel room. You have no idea who most of them are.” One DJ claims he has spent over $10,000 on hotels.

On rock and roll: “When two girls are fighting over a song, just remember—the hot one wins.”
On menstruation: “There are all kinds of tricks to hiding tampons. Keep the lights low, distract the audience, and cut the string.”

On Lighting: If you put a red light on a girl you’ll see cellulite, but if you use a blue light you won’t see anything except a big blue woman.

In General: Keep things going. Create a party atmosphere, accept bribes, and do not touch the poles.

    Yeah.

LemonLime must be from Vancouver. Most the strip clubs in Vancouver are circuit clubs and that makes the DJs job entirely different again. DJs in normal American strip clubs vs. normal Western Canadian circuit strip clubs have totally different jobs. A lot of times the circuit DJs have the same powers as a manager when it comes to fining, firing, etc etc. So LemonLime's post probably only make sense to the circuit dancers and western Canadian customers. As for wicked good DJs in Vancouver? How about Mike at No. 5 Orange! Hell yeah!

Edit: All the DJs at No. 5 actually.

Mike for his wicked Mic skills and making everyone in the club laugh several times a night.

Pat for being one of the biggest sweethearts that anyone could ever work with.

    Rob just for being cool.

Damn I miss that club! I love you No. 5 Orange!

Ok, I know I have said this in other threads but I will keep it short for this one.

There are good Dj's, there are bad dj's. Just as there are good dancers and bad ones. Fact is... BOTH are needed to have a successful adult club, granted you could have a club without either one but generally both work better.

Ahh well anyways...just playing around...that in no way is aimed at you "good" ones out there than can see through my sarcasm. Anyways, point is Dj's and dancers need to work together, we all want and need to make money, i think that works eaiser If we all work together dont ya think?

Granted there are good dj's out there..(I am not talking about the guy who presses play, says "Heres Candy" and trys to stick his fingers in you in the booth) Good dj's are rare, which is why they are usually paid higher and work in the larger more upscale clubs. Same goes for dancers, there are alot of good ones out there (I am not talking about the ones who just walks around the stage with the "tip me" face, bitches at customers and whines about every little thing) The good ones put on great stage shows, are friendly with the custys and know how to make money, they also dont create drama.

Of course the jukebox clubs (Or extras clubs as we call them up here) are always an option if you dont like dj's. Just make sure to yell your name out really really loud when you go up

I knew a few owners of jukebox clubs that swore by them, "Oh, I hate dj's I'll never use them" Sure enough after seeing the difference in business between Dj clubs and jukebox clubs, they all went to Dj's. Hmmm..wonder why if dj's are so horrible??

Dancers come and go, but clubs will always need a good dj and a good bunch of girls to remain successful. Those that dont like dj's, have fun with the jukebox places cause the good clubs (I mean really good ones, not just for your pocket) will always use them.

Oh yeah to the girls who realize we do have a place in the scheme of things, it is great to hear there are dancers who understand. Kudos to all of you.

Those are the ones that deserve tips. The others are just there, in my opinion, because the like being with (or trying to pick up) the women or they like to show off their skills (either to the guys or to impress the gals) or they are just phoning into a job without working for cash. I say let those work for hourly wages and don't tip them.
