    Default Hurricane Katrina

This is my first hurricane season in New Orleans, so I am getting nervous. I have a cat, and am not a good marathon driver. I generally can not drive more than five or six hours before I get burned out on it. So even the remote possibility of evacuation makes me nervous!!!!

This is my second hurricane season. My area got a good smack or 4 last year. You'll be ok! Make sure you get that cat in a carrier, grabb bottles of water, storm candles, flashlights with extra batteries, and a good map. Dont forget some books to read and maybe a battery opperated radio. If you have sufficiant time to evacuate, you dont need to be a marathon driver. You can pace yourself and often the traffic will keep you slow so you dont strain.

Hmmm any fucking hurricane comes ashore as a FIVE...i'm outa here. A 4 is a rough ride too, in all my life in Florida, i never went through a 4 either, and wont. My limit is a 3, and that's not fun.

A FIVE....Plan on leaving if you can WITH you're pets to higher ground, aren't you just below sea level there? Just go to a more higher ground and perhaps farther away from it!

This is of course how i feel, i have seen roofs go in a 3, and huge trees down in a 3.

I am scared to death of a 4 or five coming in off the shore here...

Heh.. Yeah, I was going to say that you must've been in a bad mood or something, and wanted to wreak havoc, Kat. Hahaha

Be safe, everyone. Where's the hurricane now, because we're getting tons of rain. We needed it badly though.

So Kat, are we rooting for humanity or the storm?

I was thinking how weird it would be should this thing steer towards Texas.

Lastest word is that Katrina will hang a right towards Louisiana sometime tonight and strengthen to a Category 4. If you're anywhere near NO, I would seriously get the hell out of there while the getting's good.

My family is evaculating New Orleans and they don't usually leave for hurricanes so this one is bad. All you people in N.O. and nearby get out of there and be safe! Take your pets with you. Even hotels that don't normally take pets make exceptions during hurricanes and if not, sneak them in!

Lafayette.....USL was one of the first universities to throw me out.

For what it's worth, one of my college buddies called me about 7 this morning and he's on his way from New Orleans to Dallas, and he NEVER leaves the city.

Shew, I live in Lafayette and my mom is battening down the hatches. All the cats are coming in and the Sea-Doo had to go be put in storage. My dad works south of New Orleans right on (and when I saw right on, I mean a mile) from the Gulf in Fourschon, La. He had to be flown to Texas. The drive to Texas from my house is usually 4 hours, now b/c of traffic, it's about 15. The forecasters are predicting that there will be no more New Orleans after this thing hits. Supposed to be worse than Andrew. Best of luck to everyone in its path.

Lol LW, USL (now ULL) blows anyway. So it's got great programs and awesome baseball and softball teams. It's still no LSU.

They said this is the worst hurricane they've seen since Camille in 1969. Don't try and ride this one out if you're where she's going to hit. Get out of the way.

You know the old joke then, that they had to change the name to ULL, because everyone though USL meant University for Slow Learners.

My family is now in Port Hudson, LA which is about an hour past Baton Rouge. It usually takes two hours to get there and it took them 9.5 hours to get there.

I am really scared for my family and the city I call home. I'm really thanking God for the little things right now like the fact that if my brother had his old job that he just up and quit cuz he was sick of it he might have had to stay in New Orleans. He worked for Entergy (electric company) and did computer work and they would sometimes put him up in a hotel right by their office during hurricanes because they needed him to keep things running.

I'm online with a friend now in Texas who told me that WWL is shutting down their station and going to broadcast from Baton Rouge and that is the first time they've ever done that. Oh shit!

I am flipping out over this. I used to live in that city and love it. The residents are used to flooding and hurricanes, but this thing has the potential to obliterate the city. At best, the city will be messed up for about 6-9 months and at worst, a major city will just not exist anymore. It'll be the new Atlantis.

I keep hoping that this storm is being overhyped by the media but I think I'll be wrong about that. Though I do hope that there is a major miracle of some sort.

I still have friends there and know they got out, but I'm so hurt to think that their lives will be turned upside-down.

If you haven't already gotten out, batten down the hatches and stay the hell away from windows! A friend of mine was in FLA for Ivan and that was Category 3 (I believe). Category 5 is the highest and most potentially catastrophic.

    I'm gonna go cry now...

I hate to imagine what your friends will walk back into when it's all over. I hope that everyone else in Katrina's path have gotten out, like your friends.
