    Default Amateur Nights

What are some of your tips for having a successful Amateur Night? Some clubs have these nights as your audition, so I was just wondering what I should expect.

Would I be able to check out the club a day beforehand and talk to some people before I decide to do an Amateur Night, or should I just call them and find out? It's not always easy to get someone on the phone, hence my questions...

I have never done Amateur Night unless you count my first night.....but I would go check the club out the night before ..just to try and feel things out.

In this area amateur night equals dancers from other clubs coming in to dance to try to win $500.

Does the club you are looking into have a regular Am. night, like say every Thursday night? You could just go the night before, but I'd recommend visiting the club during one of the Am. night contest. It will give you an idea of how their run, the aproximate time it kicks off, how the judging works, and who may be you're likely competition (does it seem to be true amateurs or mostly dancers from other venues).

Even if it the competition is made up of other professional dancers who are looking for some "supplemental income", don't let that intimidate you. Often times the club and the audience know who the real amateurs are and back them. Also, the audition part of the contest and getting offered a job usually has little to do with how you finnish in the competiton. If they like what they see, they'll probably offer you a job no matter where you finnish.

(Also sounds like you're interesting in working there, but have yet to check it out. Even if you're not scouting out the am. night contest, you should still visit the place at least one time as a customer just to check it out and see if it's a place you want to work at.)

    Best of luck.
If you can't win. Make the fellow in front of you break the record.

Yeah.... a LOT of "amateur nights" are try-out nights. At Tiffany's, amateur night was a mixed bag. Mebbie half of the girls were actually trying out, and the other half were there on a dare. Generally (but there were some exceptions), management hired from amateur night.

DEFINITELY check out the week BEFORE you try out. Be careful, though, because the nature of a club can change from week to week. For example, the night I tried out, we were loaded with college boys cuz it was right at the beginning of the semester. Later on, closer to mid-terms and exams, amateur night would exclusively be older men (who, I might add, tip a LOT better.) The week BEFORE classes started, the club would be dead. The first week of classes, the club was packed. (College boys LOVE amateur nights).

Also, since a LOT of the dancers in Phoenix were college girls, the competition would be fierce right after the semester started, then slack off.
