What can I tell people who ask what I do when I go out at night? I can't use 'bartender'....they know I know nothing about mixing drinks. Any ideas?![]()

You could just be honest. Or you can be a cocktail waitress. Work will give you enough bar stories to fill in any gaps.
My MySpace Page:
When you perform... you are out of yourself--larger and more potent, more beautiful. You are for minutes heroic. This is power. This is glory on earth. And it is yours, nightly.
--Agnes De Mille

Yep cocktail waitress I agree. You could say you cocktail waitress in the strip club. If anyone walked in and saw you doing otherwise... you could always say a friend suggested you try dancing ...and it's your first night doing so.

I say I work in a bar. When they ask which one, I say the name of the bar above the club I work at. I go to a University that was until ten years ago oficially 'Catholic'. Having everyone at school know I dance would be less than pragmatic.
and i thought you murdered someone.

My friend was a stripper, and lived at home I told her to tell her parents she works at Cowboys a regular club like a crappy western nightclub... The place is always so packed that tryin to find anyone would be impossible...
You could do that.

Define "people". I always just said "out" (only had to hide it from my family, though) and ran out the door. Now, I say "work" since I work at a peepshow which also pays me hourly... and doubles as an adult bookstore, which is what my family ACTUALLY thinks I do...
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Thanks for the help everyone. I used the waitress one for when I was doing private parties. My family suspected something was up and I was told that I wouldn't be welcomed much longer in the house and I'd have to move out. They would never kick me out on the street, but my mother sure is capable of making life at home miserable.
Ouch! Thats harsh, but most girls go thru it at some point.
You should talk to your mom more about it. Like about the confidence it gives you, the money you make, how you'll be able to afford things in life that you wouldn't ordinarily. Maybe if you need some extra emphasis in there add how there are a lot of succesful women in this world that started out dancing. Look up some on the internet under burlesque dancers. Bettie Page was a nude model that got some of her shots done for free if she agreed to do some bondage shots. There are numerous other success stories. Try and help her understand that you are feeling better about yourself, you're in better shape, you look good, you know how to behave respectfully... etc.
I know it's hard for parents to think they're kids would "degrade" themselves, but once they hear more about it from your perspective and can get a fell for why you like what you do... it usually works out... may take a few years but it helps to be as honest as possible with your parents so they are more apt to support your choice in the future.
night auditor, that is, if you are good with numbers.

I always said I was a caterer. Honest (I do cater!), night work (weddings?) AND nobody can try to visit you because you're sent places.
You could say you are a private investigator, undercover cop or even batman....
they all work nights...
On second thoughts, I think batman maybe a little difficult to get away with...
A friend of mine in school was a Cycle Counter which is basically a person who checks a company's phyical inventory against what the books say the company should have at the end of that day. The hours are commonly of the nightshift variety.
Here's an example after doing a search on Workopolis.

A girl at work today gave me a good idea for a "job"; she said that I could say I work at a busy night club here and be a barback (not a bartender). The kind of club doesnt usually let anyone in and its so big no one could find you.
Maybe you have something like that in your area?
you live like an ivy vine
you can only survive by clinging onto trees
that's your flaw
put down some roots so you can stand on your own
