be careful, ephedra is dangerous. make sure you're goin to the doctor regularly and don't take it if you're diabetic, anemic, or have any heart conditions. and you must drink plenty of water and eat something small every two hours. (like a few whole wheat crackers and some grapes) it can also interact dangerously with some prescription meds.

ephedra damaged my heart.

Yes I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone either! I took a bottle over some few months and luckily I haven’t had any side effects but I’m not going to take them ever again. They are too dangerous! I've heard so many horror stories.Originally Posted by prrfektwurld

In my opinion It really isn't worth taking far far to many side effects, even if you don't get any noticeable ones it can really mess your metabolism up.

From a medical standpoint, ephedra is dangerous for people who have a pre-existing medical condition like essential hypertension, cardiomegaly, aneurysm, heart arrythmia, etc. A perfectly healthy person SHOULD be able to tolerate ephedra, however there are some people who seem to be young and perfectly healthy, who have these co-morbid conditions. That is why ephedra has caused so many deaths. My opinion is that ephedra should be avoided. Any phamaceutical drug would have been permanently banned had it caused as many deaths and other problems as ephedra has. Natural weight loss with exercise and diet modification is the way to go.
Totally agree with candice, the poster didn't ask what everyone thinks about ephedra, she asked where to get it. I am sure she is capable of doing her own research on the product, and more than likely has already done so.
Ephedra is no longer banned in the United States. The ban was overturned as being baseless.

I thought the reason for the ban was that people can use it a precursor to making meth... am I mixing it up with another drug? I used to take pseudoepedrine tablets when I had sinus congestion from a cold or allergies... wow that really worked, figures I can't get it anymore...

You can still buy Sudafed. Plus, just about all the prescription 2nd generation anti-histamine drugs can be bought paired with pseudoephedrine. So when you ask your physician for a prescription for Allegra, you can have him/her write you for Allegra-D. Any allergy drug with the D on the end generally means pseudoephedrine is added.Originally Posted by dlabtot

It's just interesting how our medical system is these days. A Cox-2 inhibitor like Vioxx that caused a few cardiac based deaths has caused just about all Cox-2 inhibitors to be pulled from the market. Vioxx, Celebrex, Bextra, Mobic..... either banned or no-longer prescribed. Especially since the first lawsuit against Merck for a Vioxx related death resulted in a $250+ verdict to the plantiff two weeks ago.Originally Posted by buffie06
These drugs do a lot of good for MILLIONS of patients, causing just a small amount of morbidity and mortality. Now, patients who WANT these drugs, in-spite of the risks, cannot purchase them, even with a doctor's prescription.
Ephedra, however, had its ban reversed for being used as an unprescribed supplement. So people can go to stores and buy ephedra, which causes morbidity and mortablity with a clear record of deaths, and use ephedra without being monitored by a physician. It just doesn't make any sense by our threshold for deaths caused by supplements is less than prescription drugs. Fen-Phen was pulled as a prescription drug for causing heart problems while ephedra, which also causes heart problems, remains over the counter.
Personally, I think if a person is truly well informed and wants to take the risk, he/she should be able to purchase ephedra. Similarly, I think a person should be able to get a Cox-2 inhibitor or other banned prescription drugs, as long as he/she knows the risks/benefit profile. The double standard for prescriptions and supplements needs to be clarified though.

well I used to buy generic pseudoephedrine that was not paired with anything else... seemed to work a lot better than remedies that included it as one of the ingredients... but I'll try sudafed next time...You can still buy Sudafed. Sudafed is 30 mg of pure pseudoephedrine. Great for congestion related to colds, flu, etc. However, if you have allergies, it is not a good treatment because it shouldn't be used long term.Originally Posted by dlabtot

^^^ wow the pills I used to take were 10mg and they worked fine... I have a pill-splitter, I'll use that if I buy sudafed...

the normal dose of sudafed works so well, but it makes me very very jittery. i envy people who can take it without side effects!
i don't think any of us meant to imply that ohlala is somehow dimwitted or incapable of doing her own research. we're just worried about her! i for one don't want anything bad to happen to any of you!Originally Posted by buffie06

Oh dear so many replies and only one that answered my question! lol
I've been doig my research ever since they banned it!!! that's when I found out it exisisted lol...I discovered that most side effects were due to excessive use and added caffine (coffee etc). The best articles I read (that I can't find at the moment) clearly stated that ephedra is still perscribed by doctors for wieghtloss, because it is monitored.
[side note: vioxx might be coming back...recent research shows it was only regular (years) of use that was causing heartattacks etc.)
Basically, there are exceptions for every medication based on each individuals body/health.
Anyways, I presently ordered "Dymatize : Dyma-Burn Xtreme" to find out it's been discontinued but I can't find any research as to why???? And more confusing is why this compny still let me buy it!?!?!?!? Any info would be appreciated, at this point I'm throwing it out once it arrives.

I can't see Vioxx coming back to market.... not after Merck was ordered to pay $250 million for ONE death. Now it has TONS of lawsuits against them for other Vioxx related morbidity and mortality. Merck may not even be able to stay in business.Originally Posted by Ohlala
The only ephedra product that is available right now is Ephedrine HCL (a purer form of Ephedra). Ephedrine HCL was never banned. The several hundred different types of fat burners that contained Ephedra were banned and discontinued a yr or 2 ago. Even though the ban is being challenged or overturned, the supplement companies don't want to start producing Ephedra based fatburners again for fear of lawsuits and a possible reban. A couple products out there that contain Ephedra were reintroduced, but some distributers are now pulling them.Originally Posted by Ohlala
I took Ephedra fatburners/energy pills for close to 6yrs, just about every day. I didn't notice any side effects. I think its a good product if used in small amounts and not abused. I now understand that it should be cycled, used no more than 4 or 5 weeks at a time. If anyone has a preexisting heart problem, irregular heart beat or high blood pressure, I would tell them to stay away from it - Ephedra constricts blood vessels.
Ephedrine (25mgs) by itself is great as a fat burner and energy booster, but when combined w/ ~200mgs of caffeine and ~300mgs of asprine, the effect is that much greater.
With that said, I think the advances in the supplement industry since the Ephedra ban have produced safer and in some cases more effective products than the ECA stack.
Sorry forgot to answer the Dymatize question. This company has introduced several different forms of their Dyma-Burn supplement. It went from an Ephedra containing one to a non-Ephedra version and now they have one containing Ephedrina. Dont be fooled, Ephedrina is a name they came up with to trick people into thinking it contains Ephedra. Its actually just a mixture of a few herbs.
Ephedra is avalable. I bought Stackers with ephedra from a nutrition store my trainer told me to visit.

Alright any canadian looking for ephedrine HCL it can be delivered from ontario:

Oh ya I was aware that ephedrina wasn't the same but I wanted to try it for the time being...I ordered it 2 days ago and got it today!!! let you know if they are any resualts.
As for vioxx my doctor told me to hang on to my perscription because vioxx will come out in another form, just with more precautions towards regular use???
But ya, they definaltey will fine tune it and change the name...if they bring it back at all.
Thank you ladies the feed back has been great. OH and I think I have finally convinced my BF to let me try a couple of amateur nights, once I shedd these last few pounds (sooooo motivated)!
ephedra is back in the US too..only the capsule come in smaller doses of the drug, so its effects are less...and you have to take more then you would have before...good call marketing company ...thats the way to make the consumer buy more LOL
its called ephedra extract, and can be purchased i think for 39.99 at most golds gyms...and it holds 60 capsules

I fucked myself up on abusing Ephedra. I took it in large doses for endurance running purposes (I was a machine!). Now, I am taking thyroid medication for the rest of my life. Fortunately, it's cytomel and it's an awesome fat burner! But if I ever slip up on taking my meds my health and physique are screwed.
