    Default covering up scars

ok, i have tried EVERY single type of makeup- from dermablend to nars to ben nye to cheap cvs stuff and everything looks orange on my body (even the lightest shades!) and all of them show up as bruises on my body in black light. now, i could airbrush, but this take too much time that i dont have. i've been to various make counters who couldnt help me cause of my pale skin and the black lights. really dont want to tan- i have lots of tats and i dont want to age prematurely or have skin cancer. thinking about spray tanners. i do look pretty pale, but the cigarette burns and cuts on my body (still in the pink phase, some kinda fresh) stand out bad. it makes me really self concious (sp). i've gotten a few comments from the custies and just answered with 'rough sex' *wink*. with body makeup at my old club i had no worries, cover and go to work. now, where i work with black lights, it's not so easy. no it's not on my arms or my legs- i had to be stupid and gash my lower tummy. and no i dont wanna hear get help- i just want to cover this damn stuff, please. i also tried a 'shimmery powder'- didnt work. so, i'm gonna see about spray tanners. which ones stay on? will it damage my skin or my tats? keep in mind i'm VERY pale- so even the palest or lightest thing looks orange.

I have huge scars on the side on my upper right thigh from self-mutilation as a teenager, when I decided to start dancing I also decided to get a huge tribal tat snaking up my thigh (to cover the scars) and up the right side of my body. You mentioned that you have a lot of tats, maybe you could give it a thought. Or a plastic surgon could help.
    good luck

Have you tried putting liquid latex over it? I heard the natural color of liquid latex works really well. Also I have been using Mederma on my old scar and it helps old and new ones.

^^^^ Trust me, the liquid latex will NOT stay on the whole night. You will have to re-apply it like a bizillion times.

have you tried using the green stuff? I can't remember who makes it but it's a green stick conceler type thingie, and it's supposta help red and pink blemishes. Then you just put powder over it and LIGHTLY spray w/ hairspray.

are the scars too light, so they show, or are they red or pink? or some of each?

The pantyhose -in-a-can sprays might do the trick.

They tend to rub off easily though, so reapplications might be needed over the course of the night.

for scars that have healed to lighter than your normal skin tone, use a concealer that matches your skin tone. top it with finishing powder (pressed powder in your skin tone) then spray it with hair spray (seriously. use aerosol.) so it won't rub off. if the scars are red or pink, use a green tinted concealer, then top it with powder that matches your skin tone, then hairspray.

and try not to get the green concealer on the areas surrounding the scar- only on the scar. or it will look very obvious.

I have this same problem. I have a scar right between my boobs that looks like a cigarette burn, it's actually from childhood chicken pox. I am SO self concious about it, especially with dancing but even with wearing low-cut shirts, bikini tops, etc. My hubby says you can hardly notice it especially in a dark club. Anyway, I've used dermablend and that works okay to blend the color of the good skin and the scar but doesn't really conceal. I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my breast with part of it going over the scar. Maybe a dragon above the breast with it's tail tip on the scar. PROBLEM with this is will the tattoo affect money/clientele/working in certain places???

Toxic - if you can afford to do so, you can see a dermatologist or PS to get IPL laser on the scars that are red. I have done this and it works very well. I only had to get two sessions. Another thing is with some scars, that can cut it out and make a new scar heal more aesthetically.

hmmm...green concealer...there's a lot of companies who make stuff like that. i'll have to experiment with a sample. or see a derm- how much is that anyways per session?

I really don't remember since it's been about 5 years since I visited a dermatologist. If it is bad enough and considered a handicap to your appearance, you might can file an insurance claim. I would get a consult with a derm and you can discuss these options and pricing. Another thing to consider would be a medspa where liscensed aestiticians do laser on the scar. This is becoming very popular. I actually had a consult with one for my BA scars to make them less pink. She suggested she could do the IPL laser on them for about $150 a site -- so $300 for one session and it would take a couple of sessions at the least. Now going to a medspa, I think, is riskier because obviously they aren't doctors and you really don't know about their experience. But at the same time, if you would let them inject botulism into your forehead then I am sure they can handle zapping you with a light wand.

i have just stuck to dermablend. it rubs off heaps, but i just keep reapplying, and NEVER wear white!!! lol

i think the only possibility is to combat the scars compleatly, dont just cover them-eradicate them!! im still putting that off too its the only ay,otherwise you will have to cover them forever

A chemical peel might be the solution. I have scars on my legs and arms and I purchased an at home chemical peel from a licensed esthetician on Ebay. My scars were already white and healed, and they were mid-way deep. It's about a week later and the skin is peeling off and showing new skin. If you want to try it, it takes about one-two weeks to properly work. You obviously can't dance with flaking skin coming off lol.

Toxicgirl, have you tried different shades of Dermablend? I was just looking at it at the make-up store today and they have a tiny palette that comes with a bunch of different shades including the green. But I'm guessing that you have the kind of really fair skin that has a blue-ish undertone to it, which is probably why it ends up looking orange on you, as blue/orange are complimentary colors and make each other look more intense. Dermablend does have some very, very light colors that are more "pink" in tone rather than "yellow/orange". If the place where you get yours has makeup artists or good salespeople working there, they should be able to help. Of course the black or blue lights probably emphasize the orange too!

    Hi Toxicgirl,

I have many scars due to self mutilation and also a bikini C-section scar. And working in nude club didn't help. But, I have many ways in hiding these scars. Here are my steps to hiding them:

    1. Dot and rub in some green concealer to kill the red and pink

    2. Apply a foundation thats the closest to your skin.

    3. Get "Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs" (it's not just for legs)...in the closest color to your skin. Apply with a makeup spongy so it blends in well.

    4. Put on loose powder.

(Try to stay away from light colored clothes. And make sure you wait for it to dry before putting clothing on.)

    5. Don't put any SHIMMER on it. It'll just draw attention to the scars.

Also, don't worry about what the customers have to say. Your scars make you YOU. I've never had a customer complain about my scars. Half the time, it's the person with the scars that worry about it the most. With the clubs dark lighting customers could barely see them. Tell yourself everyday that you look GREAT and you'll forget about your flaws.

i have had really good luck with this stuff called dermacolor made by this company kryolan. you need to search around online a bit to find a site to buy it from and to find a color chart.(i got mine at www.show-bizcentre.com) they have all different shades for yellow or olive or pink skin tones, i buy small sizes of a few colors so i can blend. it sets with powder and covers my razor burn all night or with one repeat application towards the end of the night if i sweat alot.
