    Angry Extreme Bitch Fest

Ok. Can I rant for a minute? I'm soooo pissed right now. Ok. I drive a 1993 Hyundai S'Coupe. I know it's not the most popular car in America, and it's not the sportiest; but it only has 86,000 miles on it, and it gets an oil and filter change like every 500-1000 miles. The car has a new A/C, new radiator, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new rotary cap, new belts, new fluids, all that good shit.
Last semester, I had a problem because the car would shut off when it rained because of moisture inside the rotary cap. That sidelined one trip to the strip club but luckily enough one of my awesome teammates let me borrow her car. WELL. I go home for the summer, get my car all fixed up (dad's a pilot and mechanic), and bring it back up here to school. The car ran great the whole trip up. No problems, nothing.
TONIGHT I spend 2 hours getting cleaned up and dressed up to go out to my fave strip club cause I haven't been since May. I get in the car and it starts right up. I drive down the street, stop to get gas, and the lights start dimming. I fill it up, turn back to head back to campus and the f*ing car dies right at the front gates. It's either got a dead battery or the alternator is toast. Why does this shit always happen right before I try to go to my club???
I don't get it. I treat this car so great. I wash, wax, and detail the damn thing constantly (you'd never guess it was a '93). I keep everything in great working order. I even got the paint job touched up this summer. I treat it so well. Why does it hate me??? I can't wait for my new Mini-Cooper S next year. Thank you for the rant.

Poor girl! I would die without a reliable car! Be careful, though! I'd get a new one asap... You don't want to break down one night outside of work. :/

I'm not a dancer, (hopefully I won't be saying that too much longer) I'm a customer at the present time. I'm lucky it didn't break down at the club I was headed to that's 1 hr 15 mins away. I would've been so f*ed. It's usually so reliable. It just drove from southwest Louisiana to Delaware with no problem.

damn, you mean you do oil changes? I haven't done an oil or filter change in, oh, 40-50,000 miles... yeah, the last change was at 300,000 and its at 347k now.

Well, at some point the oil change costs more than the car's worth.

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Look at the bright side... batteries are cheap and alternators arent that bad either... sounds like battery tho... if it was the alternator it wouldnt start in the first place (i think?, im definately not a car expert) please dont quote me.. please.

My guess would be that its the alternator that died, and being the car died at night and the lights were dimming, the car was running on battery power alone. Once there is not enough power left in the battery to run the enginie the car will die. Having other electrical draws on the battery causes it to die much faster. I have driven 200+ miles on only battery power alone. It was daytime however. There are a couple of other things that could cause the problem in the charging system, but it is most likely the alternator.

That's what I'm thinking. It just gradually died. It even started to die after I jumped it. I got the battery in 2000. The alternator is the original. It's about the only original damn part left on the friggin car. I'm taking it in tomorrow to have the battery tested and possibly replace the battery or the alternator. Hopefully I'll be able to try my trip next week. I was so excited and ready to go have some fun.

Ok, quick run down on all the mistakes:

-stop changing your oil every 500-1000 miles, its a waste of money. you will only devlop sludge after about 7k

-next your battery and altenator are probably toast. get a new battery, dont buy an altenator, i dont know how mechanically inclined you are but they can be rebuilt. so if you cannot do it find some electricial student. it costs about $15 for a rebuild kit, versus $50-$120 for a new altenator.
