Default Is Katrina affecting the economy at your club

Hi, I just wanted to see how everyone is doing post-Katrina. I live in a touristy area of South Carolina and gas prices are around 3.40 per gallon. We have had a lot of out-of-town girls and the club has been dead. Sunday night 250, Monday night 80 dollars and last night 14 dollars.

Whenever a disaster occurs it does seem to affect the clubs as people become more conservative in spending… Being conscious of “what if”

I'm afraid that high gas prices, high jet fuel prices etc. had already started to take their toll on the amount of travelling/vacationing that people are doing - BEFORE Katrina hit. Since gas prices cracked $3.00 per gallon, and with the 'heating season' coming up, lots of people are seriously starting to review their weekly budgets. If an extra $100 per week must be spent on gasoline and heating oil/natural gas, that extra $100 will have to come from money presently being spent on 'luxuries'. And unfortunately for us, going to clubs and buying private dances is deep into the 'luxury' column.

The real test of any 'club climate change' will begin about 2 weeks from now. By then people will be back from summer vacations, kids will be back in school, and people will be getting 'serious' again about their jobs, the coming winter etc. If club earnings potential shows major pain in the last half of September and early October, that can be taken as confirmation that this is likely to be a COLD winter for dancers.

At my club there are alot of girls from New Orleans..but we also have a lot of costumers from over there..Last night there was a guy from there who bought 7 dances from me..I kinda felt bad so I gave him 2 dances for free...But on the other hand I don't understand how you can afford to go to a topless bar in that situation...

hmmm... I wish I could help you there but I can't, I'm about 4 hours from you. If you look under Yahoo Yellow Pages and type in Atlanta, GA and lingerie some shops should come up.

You might want to check out Cheetah III. They have a very nice dancewear shop adjoining the club !

I don't mean to be callous, but with all of the FEMA, Red Cross and other disaster relief being made available to New Orleans 'refugees', having money in their pocket could actually work AGAINST them in terms of eligibility for vouchers and benefits. Plus there is undoubtedly some carryover of the New Orleans 'mindset' of partying today and worrying about tomorrow tomorrow.

Gas prices here in Oregon aren't too bad (haven't checked today). Yesterday it was $2.77 for regular. I found one station at $2.62 as well.

As far as being affected?? I don't think the gas prices are effecting the customers spending in the club as much as the shock of the whole disaster being depressing. This whole week is historically slow in my expierance (back to school, Labor Day Vacations and the like), so I'd say it is pretty much business as usual here.

I guess I should add that on another note, that our industry provides escape, so look for business to pick up very soon. That is how it was here after 9-11. After everyone got back on the road an what not (about early October), it was busier then usual here in the Northwest.

Unfortunately, the toll of Katrina on a national level will not be seen for a few weeks, but when it does hit, it's going to hit bad. I don't think this bodes well for the business.

I'm all the way up north in Canada's capital, but our club has this huge screen tv that's been playing CNN almost all day. It's tragic and so unfortunate, but I wish they'd put the channel on sports. Kinda hard to chat up a guy for dances when the attention is more focused on horrific world events than what's up on stage. It depresses me too, the images they show. The club is so much better when it's about escape.

Yep. I STILL have to struggle to keep from letting that screw up reaching my goals. Old habits die hard.

I imagine some of those folks could use a lil break from reality for a sec tho

Re: Is Katrina affecting the economy at your club

    hello:
I live in Jackson Mississippi so Katrina has affected me in many ways.I lost the roof on my house,my club was closed for a week due to no power, gas lines are three hours or longer, enforced 12 o'clock curfew, custys are afraid to spend money because of the panic. We are making money down here but I know mine has slowed down and other dancers are complaining too.Jackson is hosting thousands of the storms victims and dancers from N.O.,Mobile,and the Gulf Coast are starting to trickle in so I know that will make money per girl even less.I can already see things improving(shorter gas lines and lots of food in the stores)so I hope that money at the club will improve so too.

I have had several regular customers who usually do 3+ songs in a row with me decline multiply dances with the excuse that they need to keep enough money around to be able to fill up at the pumps and get to work without it crunching the budget.

That is hard to argue with too since I am in the same boat.

Nobody wants to have to dip intotheir savings if they can avoid it by cutting back on discretionary spending.
