A customer of mine couldn't pay me the other night. His friend was wasted and spent all the money given to him to hold. This custy isn't the brightest bulb. He just moved to Austin and was waiting for his ATM card in the mail. He paid me everything in his pocket. I guess I could have made his friend give me the money but he's a jerk-off and probably wouldn't have given it anyway.
He owes me about $140 ($120 and I'm tacking on $20 for interest). I have been calling him all week for it with no response. Today I left a kind of threatening message. I've partied at his house before, so the threat mentioned knowing where he lives, etc. Stupid, right?
I just heard back. He's in his home town, his mom is in the hospital. It could be a totally made up story to get out of paying me, but I'm inclined to believe it since he knows I can find him.
I feel like such a jerk, even though he might be totally scamming me. There is no way I can know for sure, I don't know him THAT well. My suspicious mind wants to believe him, we've spent enough time together for him to pass himself off as a genuine person, but scam artists are everywhere.
I can't really do or know anything until he gets back in town. Should I just write off the money anyway, just in case he is full of shit? That was pretty much the only money I would have made on Monday, it was a SLOOOOOOW night at the office.
