    Default Pager? Cell Phone?

    Hello Everyone,
What do you all think is the best way to communicate with custies? I want my regulars to feel special, I don't want to to give them the standard "call the club to see when I'm working". I also need to call them in case of a last minute shift change. Obviously, this is not for all customers... just the sweeties that pay my bills I want something that is untraceable. I could just block my number to read private, but then I'll get stuck paying for those calls when it should be billed as a business expense. Any ideas?

Pagers or throw away cell phones are the best... pagers are the cheapest.

I use hotmail. I just filled out an account with the name I go by. It is a great way to keep in touch.

Prepaid phone is a good idea. You can buy a cheapie or a used one from someone.

Eeek! Please do not e-mail them... HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS ARE TRACEABLE! There are programs for sale online that can do this. Even if you use false info to start up the account, it works by using the location of the computer you sent it from.

is the program to trace where you are checking it from or were you set it up. I bunch of us had set ours up at the same time at an internet cafe but I check mine from everwere.

If I may, I would like to add something to this based on my experience.

As a college instructor who has now added a couple of college-level classes at a local high school, the last thing I want to do is give out my home or office number, so I purchased a prepaid cellphone plan from the old AT&T. I believe for $100 you get something like 12 cents per minute and 10 cents per text message for six months. You can also tie Yahoo messenger to the phone number and send and receive messages that way as well. For 3 years it has worked perfectly for me. If I need a replacement phone, I can get an old Nokia 3360 or equivalent on eBay for less than $30.

I do this because the last thing I need is a 3 AM phone call asking about the particle-wave duality of light. Even geeks need sleep.

mostly pre-paid cells but only in areas where it isn't illegal to exchange info with the customers

All you can find out is the IP address. If you are using a big provider like aol or earthlink it's pretty untraceable. If you are at an internet cafe it will depend on their ISP... someone might be able to tell the city you checked it from, let's say...

I didn't even realize people still use pagers!!

Grab a pre-paid phone from anywhere, Walgreens, Best Buy, even places in the mall like Sam Goody has them.

That way you can just turn it off/ put it on silent when it's time to sleep.
Cell phones make great places to store custy's numbers too. Much better than a purse full of written on beverage napkins.

I just use my regular cell phone. I don't get that many calls from non customers or customers to where it makes a difference.

Only 2 customers call me on a regular basis, and the others are just random calls to see when I'll be in town next, so it's really no big deal.

US Cellular has the "No pay incoming calls" thing with their plans. It makes the bills much easier to stomach when they're due.
