    Default Homeless?

Im a little frustrated right now... I fear I may be homeless in 20 days. Mom hasnt had a job in 3 months. I will spare the details, but for now I am selling anything I think is valuable and I am even considering giving a lot of my clothes to Katrina victims.

Been trying really hard to get a job at a SC. I have $350 saved to buy a license but if that doesnt go through then I dont know whats going to happen. Anyway I refuse to sit here and feel sorry for myself so I just keep trying to think of ways to make my situation work out for the better. Because I know there are others that are even worse off then me.

Anyway have any of you been homeless and do you have any advice or encouragement to stay strong. I dont need anyone saying they feel sorry for me. What I could really use is some encouragement to stay strong or any other stories from others that have been homeless have made a better future for themselves...

Trying to keep my head up

I was in fact homeless whenI started stripping. I was living in a shelter for about a week when I decided I had to do something about it. They won't let you stay in a shelter if your a stripper BTW. I don't know what else to say... any questions?

You need to go work for a private dance agency before you blow your last $350 on a club dancing license. You will not make enough at a regular strip club to set yourself up to live on your own in one month. You can make enough doing private dance if you find a sympathetic booker- believe it or not, it happens.
I'm proud that you have such a good attitude about this. I have been homeless before (due to a natural disaster) and it's hard. I also dated a guy who was homeless in his teens and now he's a millionaire..no kidding!
If you can't stay with a relative, go to your local church, Salvation Army center or social services dept. Don't say anything about your sex industry work (bad connotations in this situation) but someone would be willing to help.
Times are hard for many. My 2 best friends are going through housing drama, and I am trying to get my own place also, but it's hard to where I live.
Do not panic. You will figure something out.

I was homeless for about three months while I was stripping. It was a really rough time (I was 23--am 25 now) but gave me a lot of introspection and time to myself... obviously, haha.

Not sure exactly where you are but here's what I did. I started working at a strip club on the main strip in town so that I was in walking distance/cab distance to a very cheap motel--It was 40$ a night but I managed to save up enough to get a cheaper rate by renting by the week. It was a room with a fridge, a microwave, a bath, bed and HBO, haha. Not much else. Needless to say, I watched a LOT of movies.

After awhile, I got to know the girls at the club well and would occasionally crash with each of them like once a week... saved me the 40 bucks that night and was fun and good networking. Eventually my manager let me crash at his place for ten bucks a night (he had a guest room) until I got on my feet. He's cool so nothing shady was going on, hehe.

Anyway... lots of little details with how I changed eating habits, ride habits, etc... but... i feel yah for sure. If you wanna PM me go ahead. I KNOW how it feels. I'm not an irrespnsible person, either... just had a half year stroke of bad luck.

I normally wouldn't recommend this to someone but do you have any guy friends who have a crush on you ? Maybe one of them would let you crash there for awhile.

Gosh , I know how that sounds but it would be better than being on the streets I think

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. If you were near me I'd let you stay at my house.

I've been homless a few times, from my early teen years on up through adulthood. I have faith in ya. You have the determination to want to avoid it, thats so very much a plus. Definately keep your chin up. If it happens, get through it. Dont let it bring you down and keep you there. I've seen that happen and have seen folks become homless long term because of it.

I cant believe so many people have been homeless stripper here. I had no idea? Good for everyone pulling themselves on the boot straps. It seems so scary.

I would work at a private dance agency or private parties place instead for a bit until you can get your feet on again. Save you $350 and use it for travel and stay in a shelter. You probably wont have to stay long since you seem very ambitious about getting yourself out of this situation. Remember this is only temporary. I wish you luck hun.

maybe you can use the 350 to help your mom out so you guys dont become homeless and in the meanwhile look for a job with an dance agency.

Talk to your manager at your full time job and ask him for advice. I think he will probably lend you the money until Your mom gets back on her feet to keep you as an employee.

What do you need in order to keep from being homeless?

I understand your fear. I've never made much money dancing and my day job has been REALLY slow and I'm contemplating moving to another city totally by myself because my money here has been shit lately. You could always go stay in a shelter and if they won't let strippers stay there just don't tell them. I was surprised I've had like 3 people say I could stay with them so maybe if you start talking to people you might find someone willing to do that. Also, check ads for people looking for roommates. Sometimes people will rent you a room in their house for cheap and you ought to be able to make enough money to pay for that until you can get on your feet to get your own place. I know there are a lot of people worse off but it's still really scary when you can't seem to make the money you need...and then sometimes you make money you never thought you would. I'm learning I need to try harder to save money becuase you never know when you might need it. Even the most stable job can end in a heartbeat.

and don't give up! like madmaxine's guy who was homeless and is now a millionaire, I had a friend whose dad used to do really well in the construction industry and then boom, he lost his job and they had to live off what his mom made in her little office job, about $200/week for a family of four. His dad took a job as a hotel bellman and ended up making a lot of contacts, saving his money, and starting his own limo company. They lost their 5000 square foot house when his dad lost his job and moved into a teeny place but by the time I met this guy his parents were doing great and they were living quite well.

Right now I work at Dairy Queen my 2 week checks are $361 sometimes $415. So roughly $700 a month. But I pay $300 rent already. Our mortgage is only $800. The mortgage is due in October. I am selling random stuff on Ebay. I have a cell phone and car so I am just making sure that is paid so if I am homless I can get around and at least have outside contact. Since once you are homeless its hard to get anything w/ out a address.

I will look into booking agencies, and private dancing. And yes I do know of an guy that does like me and would probably be willing to let me crash at his place if I needed a place. He lives alone and works 60 hours so it would work out. And I definitely wouldnt mind paying rent or something.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR SUPPORT, and sharing your stories.

I would try to work at a sc where you don't have to pay to have a license. im not exactly sure what state you're located in... I dance in Ohio, so its different here. .i don't know anyone around ohio that has to pay to have an entertainment license... I'm thinking the state you are in you have to have one to work... but if thats not the case then i would stay with the guy friend of yours and try to pick up some other kind of job and save as much as you can until you can afford a place... i know how you feel.. i was in a postion similar to yours and it sucks.... keep your head up and be strong.. things will get better.... I guess it wouldn't be so bad if you could dance at a club where you didn't have to have a license in the first place, which would eliviate you having to pay that $350... I'll keep you in my prayers girl!!!

I live in Powder Springs which is 20 min. away from Atlanta. I have some numbers for some Escort Agencies to get some private dancing jobs. Hopefully I will get a few, and I am going to audition for a big SC too.

I have had very short (non-serious) stints of homelessness- it's do-able. You just have to have a place to hide your gear (car), and a place to get ready (public bathroom). And a really big purse, lol.

I'd try my best to find a dancing job if I were you- you'll probably be able to make your monthy income in 2 shifts (or less!). The license deal sucks, but ask the clubs if they'll let you work a shift first...try an amateur contest...

So you've been trying to get hired and it hasn't been working out? I don't see why- you look to have a tight body. What has been the problem?

What about a club in another nearby county where you don't need a $350 permit ?

There is a place called Boomers but it is 18 and over and no Alcohol. Money is not that great and I would most likely only make tip out. When I did apply to a good club in Atlanta, college was just starting for a lot of girls. So they had a bunch of girls and I was put on a waiting list. (or so I was told)

But I have gone through an audition at Masters, so I know I am good enough... The mistake I made at Masters was not asking If I was hired after my audition. Night manager took my number and said he would call. I knew he wouldnt so I called him. And then I got the run around because I didnt ask. I was too nice about it. But now I will be much more aggresive in my "am i hired" tactics.

Most of us started off dancing in dives. There's no shame in it.

I know that Atlanta has a lot of "Lingerie Modeling" places, aka "Jack Shacks" (that name makes me cringe). I know a lot of the clients expect to get laid but a lot just want a good show. I used to work in a peep show for a while years ago, and while it can be a little disconcerting, it's very similar to working with a private dance agency.

The expensive license in ATL irks me. Most women start dancing because they're in financial straits. $350 is A LOT of money when a girl is broke.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"

Definitely be aggressive yet polite in your audition/interview tactics. tell THEM what shifts YOU are available. Ask professional but basic questions such as do you have to wear a butt-cover or can you walk around in plain g-string also what times shifts start, tipouts, etc. Just ask for the basics and don't offer too much info other than you think it's a great club and you think you'd fit in well there and ask when you can try it out for a night or so to see if YOU like the club....not se if the club likes you! You make them money here, they just provide a building for you to do it in! Also see if they maybe make arrangements to pay for your license up front and they hold it at club for you and you pay off part of it every night you work. Best advice, just keep pluggin' along and DON'T TRUST ANYONE!!! Good luck sweetie!

I sure wish you the best of luck, dear, you definately deserve it. I sure will keep you in my prayers. I sure do admire your awesome attitude & courage. Also everyone else that's been in these situations, OMG! You ladies are beyond brave! Sure put my sh** in perspective. I always did admire y'all dancers, it's a rough biz, not for the fainthearted. I don't know if this will help, but reading the paper I found places that pay to test new food products, etc. I did one last week, got $25.00 & a free lunch. They put your name & info in a database, & give you a call when they have something for you. I signed up for a few, since it's a once in a while thing. They are called focus groups.

If you are 21 here's what you do.

City of Atlanta permits are $350, but Dekalb County permits (Strokers/Oasis/Pin-Up's ) are only $200......

Plus you use one permit for all 3 clubs.....

Pin-Up's will hire anyone and midshift is best. Stroker's is slightly more picky day shift is best for Strokers,,, Oasis may or may not hire you depending on how many Black girls they have ( They aren't the most upscale clubin ATL, but are probably the most racist). Dayshift there is very good and will allow you to get the hang of things.... Be sweet to the doorgirl, but don't over do it.

You'll have to pay BEFORE going to work at Pin-Up's so save an additional $25-$35 depending on what time you get there.

When a club asks if you've danced before they are really just trying to guage what type of a girl you are. IF you tell them you worked at a dive they think you are a slut and if you say the best club in the city they think you are a lady..... Just say you danced somewhere in California but haven't danced again since you moved here.

The Dekalb County permit is also good so after you have a a littl etime to build up some $$ you can move up to a better club..... Pin-up's you hould be able to make $250 on a day shift-- just don't let the guys get away with anything there.
