    Default west nile

ive been sick for a month... started with a cough that would come and go...not really bothersom. then the last couple days ive woken up with a sore throat that would go away after an hour or so... today i woke up and felt like i was hit in the face by a truck. stuffed up... head cold.

Feels like the flu but my girlfriend was telling me that west nile has flu symptoms... i took some sudafed and am feeling better but was wondering if anyone has had or knows of anyone that has had west nile? im debating on seeing if this goes away on its own or going to the doc... im gonna feel dumb if i spend $300 to find out its just a simple cold... guess it may be better to be safe than sorry... it just hurts to move...

Yep, I had it last summer. The dead giveaway was the weird blotchy rash on my torso. There's a thread on here somewhere about it where Pamela, Jillian and montythegeek were talking about it.
Just baby yourself until it goes away. (And I spent almost a thousand this year at the emergency room to find out I had simple flu...just make sure someone can check on you in the next few days so you don't have to go to the hospital until you're sure.)

AudreyLeigh.... your symptoms don't sound like West Nile. Actually, it sounds more like bad allergies. West Nile is a flavivirus that hits infants and the elderly. For people our age, it CAN manifest as flu-like symptoms, but that is fever, chills, and body aches. And even if you did have West Nile, there's no treatment except for relieving the symptoms. So your friendly online M.D.'s suggestion is to take some more Sudafed and some over the counter Benadryl :_ However, If you are still really concerned, by all means please go see a doctor.

Well, if it is West Nile, it cannot be passed from person to person. Birds are the reservoir for the virus. We're not really in influenza season, so the flu is kinda unlikely too. Could just be your everyday run of the mill rhiniovirus, aka the common cold. Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, take a good multivitamin, possibly try supplementing with zinc and echinacea, and use Tylenol Cold and Flu day and night formulations to get you through. Hope that helps. It should all pass in 5 days... the cough can linger up to 4 weeks.

You probably caught a flu virus from when you were traveling (you posted you traveled to SoCal) I have always gotten sick when I go to new places & most of my travel mates too.
Dang, wish I could help more. Hope you feel better.
