    Angry Copycat!

Just wondering how others may have handled a situation like this. I have been working at this club off and on for almost 6 years. There is a girl there, who has also been there off and on for a few years, who thinks she is better than everyone else. Now, it has gotten to where she noticeably is copying almost everything I do as far as how I look. When I first started back, I was wearing my hair naturally curly, she then started to TRY her best to make her hair look like mine, then I got layers cut into it and started wearing it straight...the DAY I came into work this way, she brushed her curls out at work and did the same thing! I wear glitter on my eyes, now all of the sudden she does it too. Its even got to the point where she is doing her eye makeup like mine, dancing like me, etc....other girls have taken notice to this as well. Its really ticking me off because I want to stand out as an individual and not have a frickin clone of me there. We look similar...Its really aggravating me to the point where I am so stressed out over it at work I stay in a bad mood. Should I say something to this girl to let her know that I notice what she is doing, or should I just ignore that she even exsists???

Ignore her. And start doing something prankish for a while, like all-silver outfits or retro-New Wave make-up...as far as you can go without hurting your money. Basically something she'd be afraid to copy, or cannot copy easily.

If you want to be mean...
Try bragging about how cool your customers think your 1990 Plymouth is, because you stuck a new engine in it, and painted it neon green. Talk about how silk panties are the only way to go when wearing everyday panties. Before you know it, the girl will have a clunker and a ranging yeast infection.
If you want to be nice...
She probably has a very, very low self-esteem and looks up to you. It might not hurt to make friends with her and show her the way slowly. Go to breakfast with her and say something such as, 'I wish I looked good in booty shorts (or something else us strippers wear) I don't have the body like you do. You'd look awesome in them!'
I've had a couple of these. They eventually find their own style.

I've had this happen numerous times. And this probably won't be the last time this happens to you. It happens. I used to get pissed, bent out of shape, complained to managers, etc. I would tell the girls to stop, then they would look at me with these hurt faces, and I would feel like such a bitch. They look up to you, they see you are obviously doing something right and admire that. It will pass, the dancing business is a learning process.

I would leave it alone. You're not the only one who sees what she's doing. You're doing it first and better, you know it and so do they.

I've had it happen to me, and it really upset me until I had people mentioning that they saw what she was doing and she looked ridiculous trying to keep up with me (not to mention that I was doing everything first, obviously).

Happens to everyone sweetie. I have a puppy right now but rather than get mad at her I try to help her. Ive helped her with her hair and makeup and told her what types of outfits would look best on HER (since we look nothing alike Im 5'8" 115# and shes 5'1" and curvy)... i think its cute... and she really appreciates it.

Puppies are usually newer girls who dont have a style yet (dress or dance) They see YOU and think OMG shes PERFECT and want to be like you... I started out as a puppy and eventually found my own style... Im sure she will too... and every other puppy that looks up to you! Take it as a compliment!

I don't think she's deliberately copying you, have you thought she thinks you look nice so wants to try out some of the things you do? I hardly think you're the only girl with curly hair/glittery eyeshadow etc. You don't own these looks! Also, did you invent the term copycat, cos if you did then I know someone who invented BritPop.

It happens all the time. NEW girls are trying to find their niche.
She said this girls been dancing for a few years. I think she should have found her own style by now. Maybe you could very very nicely mention to her that you notice she has been copying some of your looks and it kind of iritates you so you'd be more than willing to help her find her own look.
(Before you put dye in her hair/body spray of course.)

P SEX and Prina...before you try to show your ass and be rude, you need to REREAD my post. She is NOT a new girl...she has been there as long as I have off and on...she also bullies the other girls and thinks she is BETTER than everyone else. She bullies new girls and tells them not to copy HER moves, yet she thinks its OK to practically steal my identity. She does her eye makeup EXACTLY like mine, which she never did before I started wearing it that way. Lastnight, she even went as far as to wash her hair out in the sink and restyle it to look like mine when I came to work wearing it different. Who cares? I agree with Nadia. No, none of us corner the market on curly hair, glitter, etc. But I am sure that we all do something that is distinctly "us".

I had someone taking everything I did. I changed my hair color, she changed hers. I changed my hairstyle, she changed hers. The jewelry I wore, she wore. She even had the (awful) costume lady copy my outfits (which were ONE OF A KINDS, designed by ME and made by the GOOD costume lady) !!! I told the costume lady that if she ever duplicated one of my outfits again, I'd make sure that she couldn't sell her crap in any of the clubs I worked in. I sold all the costumes that she copied and designed new ones.

It doesn't feel good when you put yourself out there and the person takes it. No offense to the custies here, but some of them (as we've discussed) can't tell us apart anyway. We're not there simply for our health, but to support ourselves and our families. Some are short sighted and do not know that we did it first and then (as in this case) the dancer isnt' new, so the custy may believe that YOU'RE the copycat, and they may not tip you or dance with you because of it... Then they might dance with her thinking that she is you and she sure the hell isnt' going to correct them.

Respect is not easy to come by in this business, and losing it over something you didn't do is awful.

I care, Nadia. I'm sorry this is happening to you...

Know that inside this girl is probably a very insecure person and is only jealous of you. Just be satisfied in knowing that. She may act like she is better than you but really she probably thinks that you are better than her. And you could be better by just ignoring her. As long as its not affecting your sales all is sweet.

Thanks for the support guys! Im glad some of you DO understand where I am coming from. It can be very flattering, but it can be taken too far. I have decided to just ignore it as much as possible and hope that she will find someone else to copy when she gets tired of me!!! (hugs)

Try to do somethings that she can't copy. I have a pole trick that noone else at my club can do (i know other people can but noone I work with), I have no problems teaching girls my tricks but it took me a year to get it right so I know thats kind of my thing, you might consider something like that. Another option is to have a few different "looks". Have a goth costume, a school girl, etc... That way you can quickly change if the girl puts on a costume like yours. Perhaps you could try helping her out. I love helping new dancers find their own "niche" I remember how helpful people were with me when I started dancing so I have no problem doing it to others.

I kind of agree with Miss K.L. ...... She needs to be told. Obviously if she's been there so long, and been doing it to such a degree that other people notice, it's enough. I hope that when you do get fed up and either tell her or someone else does, that she takes it as a lesson learned and hops down from her pedestol(sp). She has no right to be a bitch to anybody, ESPECIALLY if she doesnt even have her own style.

More power to you Nadia...whatever you decide....I hope for the best

A few of you are still confused...she is NOT a new girl, as the other posters have mentioned, she has been then almost as long as I have. She is the "bullie". She has never said anything to me, but she does it to other girls all the time. I have decided that tonight, I am going to dance to some of her music (which she will absolutely have a fit over). I am giong to give her a taste of her own medicine. Lastnight was the final straw for me...she is SO freaking arrogant. She can do awesome pole tricks, but she got ALL of them from another girl that used to work there. if she sees another girl doing them, she says something to them about it...thats BS. I am going to lose it tonight if she tries to say anything to me about dancing to her music. I just have to do SOMETHING to get this frustration out or I am going to explode!!!!

Wow... I didnt know girls get so mad about people copying them... come on... youre going to tell me you came up with EVERYTHING you do, say, wear, the way you dance, wearing hoop earrings, glitter, your body spray, wearing thigh highs, a flower in your hair, WHATEVER it is on your OWN... give me a break.. and pounding someones face in a locker will solve nothing...

So shes a bully... yea, getting down to her level will solve all... uh, no... c'mon girls.. this ISNT HIGH SCHOOL...

If shes such a bully she will get hers in the end... let her own karma get her... dont ruin yours over petty sh*t.

Do you have a different skin tone than hers or other different features? Wear something that would look good on you, but BAD on her.

I like the bizarre-over-the-top makeup suggestion, and I also think the bait-and-switch idea is good. Like, wear something else, hang out for a little while, and then change real quick once she catches onto it. Then she'll be stuck in the copycat outfit unless she wants to change again. Or bring like 3 or 4 changes of clothing and make her furiously follow you through all of them . . . that should inspire other people to make fun of her.

Hey, I can understand when you feel a girl is out of line, but don't you think this post is out of line? Show your ass? Be smart? Girl, no one was trying to to smite you. Calm down and realize in this business, SHIT HAPPENS! Be glad she's ONLY copying you and nothing more! You can't control that, whatsoever! I find I do my job best when I ignore other girls, and they equally leave me the fuck alone. If they want to mimic me exactly, fuck it, I'll just do it better. A mimic is only that; I'm the original.

Actually,No, I dont think my post was out of line, but I did tell a friend of mine today that I have decided to just ignore all the BS going on at my club right now and just concentrate on making my money..I actually did that on Saturday night and did great and was alot less stressed out through the night. Screw it all....I totally agree..
