To the men and women who lost their lives on September 11th. I haven't forgotten you, nor will you ever be forgotten. An act of terrorism which was unthinkable before this date brought the mightiest country in the world to its knee's. And it bounced back in retaliation overthrowing two middle eastern governments that supported terrorism. And one that openly defied the UN Security Council. I am sorry you had to lose your lives, you were not soldiers, sailors, airmen or Marines. You were just going to work.
The brave firefighters and police officers who lost their lives in a war they didn't sign up to fight in, your perserverance and bravery is inspiring. Ignoring orders to evacuate to try to move more people out is greater than any celebrity or sports hero could ever hope to accomplish. And you do it for a fraction of the wages and fame. Any man or women who would rush into a burning building has my respect and confidence. Along with the men and women who have to fight violent criminals, or even under the extreme circumstances use their firearms againsnt another human being.
Myself, like many others who probably feel the same way I do. I could not have prevented the attacks on September 11th, 2001. How like all Americans I wish I could have. I guess I, like most other people feel like there should have been something to have been done. Maybe if we pushed harder for better results, but there are thousands of what if's we could contemplate all day. And it still does no good. Maybe its the Marine Corps ooh-rah, defenders of freedom but I feel like the civilian population are people that need to be protected and shouldnt be drug into war.
I've also lost another friend in Iraq recently. And I would just like to say a few words to him.
Brother, we went to high school together, we drank, we partied and you left when I was only a sophmore. We had some good times. Even better times when you came home on leave. You survived Bosnia, and found true love there. You went back to Iraq for a second time and you gave the ultimate sacrifice. I wish I could say it was in honor, but there is no honor in getting hit with an IED. I wish there was something I could have done to prevent it. But you know how it is, Brett, Josh, Chris, and many others are still active. We may not know who did this but they will get theirs in the end. I tossed back a few for you, you know what kind. May my bronze star in your coffin help you in the afterlife. Your war is over brother, enjoy the R&R well meet again.
