    Default quick weight loss

What do you do when you want to lose ten pounds (by the mirror, not necessarily by the scale) fast?

yes! and if you don't have a juicer, get the juices in the refridgerated section of the supermarket (like Fresh Samantha, Boathouse Farms, Odwalla, etc)....the less transparent the liquid, the better. Higher fiber is better

have you seen Jack Osbourne lately? After rehab, he went on a week-long juice detox along with coffee enemas....then regular dieting He looks great, but me personally....I'd skip the coffee enemas.

I love how I feel after 2 days of juice...and it's nice that I lose a little weight too

you can't have any sugar besides natural fruit sugar and you have to watch your calories...should be around 1200. If you are working out, have a protein drink also.

    you will lose weight FAST

Yeah, I was going to ask, if all you're drinking is vegetable juice, aren't you lacking protein? You'd also lose muscle mass then. I've never done anything so extreme, but now I'm curious. It is Monday and all I've had so far is coffee......

    * on another note, I've been eating ALOT lately (stress) and now it takes a little bit more food each time to quell my hunger. Would a week long juice fast maybe help me get back on track to feeling satisfied with less food?

What are some brands of protein shakes available to buy? Is it something I can find at a regular supermarket?

I like Isopure brand protein drink. You can get it at any GNC store.

If you are going to do the veggie drink/fruit drink diet, then make sure you add a scoop of protein powder. Sorry...forgot to add that.

This diet is only meant to "kick start" your metabolism and help flush toxins. If you are regularly eating only 800 calories a day, then that is BAD. Your body needs at LEAST 1,000 calories a day just to run...you should eat more if you are more active. If you are eating less than that, then your body will begin to store everything that you eat (no matter what) because it thinks it is in starvation mode.

Personally, I don't count calories. I just eat. The problem is NOT that people eat too many calories...it's that the majority of people with weight problems eat the WRONG foods...and do not eat enough times per day. If you eat 2,000 calories a day but your diet is mainly consisting of veggies, fruits, protein, and water and you are feeding your body at least 6 times per day, you will still lose any excess weight. If you eat 1,500 calories a day but you only eat 2-3 times per day, you are over-eating the carbs, not eating enough fruits and veggies, or drinking enough water...you will find that you will not lose weight as easily.

Calories are simply a way to measure heat. Calories are what your body uses to generate energy. FAT is where people get in trouble...and eating ok but only eating 2 or 3 times per day also gets people in trouble.

    So, think lots of healthy.

Well, if you do it for the short term, it shouldn't do too much damage. If you are going to incorporate more veggie/fruit juice into your daily diet, then, yes, you need to add protein.

    * on another note, I've been eating ALOT lately (stress) and now it takes a little bit more food each time to quell my hunger. Would a week long juice fast maybe help me get back on track to feeling satisfied with less food?
Well, you could always replace whatever you are eating now with fruits and veggies (it's not as fun as Snickers or stuff like that....but). Also, sometimes when our bodies need WATER, we interpret that as needing to eat. If you are under a lot of stress (and you drink coffee) you may simply be mistaking the "water" signal for food. If you are not drinking at least 8 servings of water per day, plus 1 serving of water for every serving of coffee you are drinking, I can almost guarantee you that you are dehydrated. Before you reach for food, drink a glass of water and wait a few minutes. If you still FEEL hungry, then grab some fruits and veggies and eat (unless it's mealtime, then eat fruits/veggies with protein and some carbs).

Our bodies really need to be fueled with (healthy) food every 2-3 waking hours. If you are not eating every 2-3 hours (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack) then that could be part of the problem.

Anyways...long answer to short question. A veggie/fruit drink will help kick start the metabolism...it will not replace emotional eating. However, if you are over-eating because of dehydration...the fruit/veggie drink will most certainly re-hydrate your body, which could help you get back on track.

    Sorry for the long answer.

    what Venus said....

Megan, sometimes I get in a mode where I can't stop eating and it gets to the point where I can't feel full without overeating.

I've been juicing like 2x a month (2 days each). It gets me on track and gives me a sense of control over my body. I feel better and am ready to start eating healthy again.

and by healthy, I mean basically what Venus described...fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. I start out well, but after about a week, I start incorporating a couple of junkie things in there....microwave popcorn, pizza, etc. I don't go overkill, but I allow myself a little splurge. You have to!

Good advice. Your body needs protein for functions other than building muscle, so if you are consuming no protein at all, even if you are not exercising, your body will start to cannibalise your least-used muscles in order to obtain that protein. Of course then you lose weight, but not in the way you're aiming for.

That said, most peoples' regular protein intake is higher than it needs to be. If you're doing a juice-fast, however, you should try and include a protein shake or some other source of protein... I can find out the exact recommended protein intake/ lb bodyweight for sedentary and active individuals if you want to be pedantic about it, but it's not high.

Juice fasts are a good to lose weight in the short term, but only as a kind of detox. You'll most likely put all the weight back on as soon as you start eating unless you change your regular eating habits. A pattern of 'binge' eating or eating lots of unhealthy foods and following it up with a juice fast is not going to make you thin and healthy. You should also still aim for a minimum 1000 calories a day. Any less for a healthy, active person could be harmful to your health.

I lost 38 lbs with Weight Watchers 3 years ago and it took me 6 months to lose it and today I still have it off because I did it the right way. Eatting small frequent meals totaling about 1500 calories per day and exercising 4 times weekly is the way to do it. If you lose the weight too quick you are likely to gain it back very quick. You shouldn't be losing more than 3 lbs. weekly if you are doing so in a healthy manner. The juice diet will just make you shit your brains out and once you start eatting real food again you will gain it back.

If I do the South Beach phase 1 for a week my tummy looks flatter and I can get into the skinny jeans. Basically it's just veggies, lean protein (chicken, fish, turkey), low fat cheese, nuts, and sugar-free Jello. Knocks off the weight quickly. That and a spray tan makes me look ten pounds thinner. It's what I'm doing this week since I'm being photographed on Sunday.

Though I might mix in a juice fast just to see what it's like. Emily, do you find you have enough energy at work when you do that?

Yeah, I don't find I have energy problems at all. I feel hungry sometimes, but otherwise function as normal...and I'm very active. I still go to the gym and workout, as well as go to work. if I do weight training, I feel a little weak, so I won't do weight training on day 2 of the juice fast, but cardio seems fine.

I should have clarified an said I drink decaff, plus drink insane amounts of water throughout the day. Also, I think we all know about the "eat frequently, mini meals throughout the day". But I started looking up juice fasting online, and I liked what I read! Takes discipline, but has a healthy outcome if followed correctly!

This is not true. The juice/fruit fast is NOT intended for long-term use (meaning that you ONLY drink the juice to lose weight). It is intended as a fast...to help kick-start the metabolism...to help rid the body of toxins. It really should not be done for longer than a week...but you could do it one week per month. Of course, the juices that you should be drinking are made from a juicer. Not the juicy juice stuff you buy in the stores. If you don't have a juicer, you should buy one to do that fast!

When I want to lose a few lbs quickly, for 2 or 3 days max, I will only drink MYOPLEX lite shakes (about 5 or 6 a day). I blend mine with a few cubes of ice for well over a minute so they are nice and thick. They keep me full until its time for my next one. I never feel hungry when I do this diet. You'll get 1000 to 1200 calories a day and a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat. Plus you get atleast 72 ounces of extra water. Then I drink and extra 10 to 12 glasses of water throughout the day as well. Get you caffeine through green tea b/c it will give you an energy boost. Doing this I still have energy to workout and don't get headaches like I do with other quick weightloss remedies.

I personally tried the "juice diet" before going to Weight Watchers and spent a lot of time on the toilet myself. I am also an LPN. So I know what a high fiber diet can do to you if you are not use to it whether it be a full liquid diet or a regular diet. If you want to speed your metabolism up you have to eat small frequent meals and build muscle mass. I have seen patients in the hospital with bulemia and anorexia nervosa. Bulemic patients do juice diets, enemas, laxatives, water pills, self - inducked vomiting , etc. and end throwing their whole system out of balance. If must attempt a diet that does not give you the proper nutrition you need then you need to start taking a very good multi-vitamin well in advance. If not, you can throw your albumin, potassium and magnesium out of balance and end up in the hospital. I had a patient come in once that was eighty-three lbs. We ended up putting an IV in her neck and giving her lipids (fat) through it.

Unfornuately, not everything is instant. The only long- term, quick weight loss I know of is lipo or a tummy tuck and even then you have to count in the recovery time. You can also gain it back if you don't watch your diet.

To each it's own. But I am just trying to prepare you through my own experiences and what I have seen of the consequences.

^ While, in theory, you are correct, the truth of the matter is simply this. MOST americans' diets are so bad that they don't have regular bowel movements. They are highly toxic (which accounts for the amount of fat people in the US) and the big contributor to that is not moving enough crap (pun intended) out of the body. A lot of the foods which americans eat contain things that MAKE their bodies store fats. Add that to the regular person who barely gets enough water per day, substituting it with coffee, pop, sugar water (that bad flavored water) you have a seriously dehydrated, shit filled person.

The veggie/fruit "diet" helps to jump-start the metabolism by helping the body rid of the toxic waste that the majority of us have sitting in our bodies. It's also very fiber rich, vitamin rich, calcium rich, and even water rich. In doing that, the body begins releasing stuff that is not needed nor healthy. While it is true that some people go over-board and try to live off of the diet. It's sole purpose and intention is to rid the body of excesses and create a more clean and healthy body. The nice side effect is that the majority of people (at first) see a big difference in the waist line.

I would strongly suggest that everyone read "The Fat Flush Plan". It really explains why all of these preservatives and sugar-replacers, along with refined sugars, flours, wheats, pastas, etc are creating fat and "non-fat" fat.

Very disturbing, but very enlightening, as well.

The truth is also that the majority of Americans are overweight. And everybody wants a quick answer to a problem that didn't occur overnight. Muscle burns fat, so the more muscle you have the less fat you have, that is a fact. Eatting small frequent meals also speeds the metabolism. Ridding the body of toxins through diet is not a medical practice. However, it is used in homeopathic medicine. I am not against homeopathic medicine by no means, however none of it is proven to be true. I myself am on a low fat, high fiber diet. I also take in the amount of calories my body needs and I also have regular bowel movements. I drink plenty of water and exercise regularly which also helps move things along. Today, I feel better and look better than ever. If only others Americans were educated properly could they feel better as well.

I've been making awesome smoothies lately...frozen fruit (I like mixed, with cantaloupe, honeydew, peaches, and berries), a couple packets of Splenda, and some raspberry flavored Aquafina or Dasani.

I process these together in my smoothie maker (basically, a blender with this stir-stick thing on top, and a dispensing spout)...they are sooo good. One bag (3 servings of fruit....about 150-180 calories) makes two servings for me....and I have 3 or 4 a day. Then, when I want some "real" food, I have some soup. I love the Campbell'ss Selects...they are yummy Salty, I know, but I drink a ton of water, so it doesn't really affect me.
I know I'm not getting enough protein, so I'll probably add some chicken or eggs...I hate the taste of protein powder. I wish I could find a protein pill !!!

I love putting protein poweder in my smoothies...the vanilla makes it fluff up like a mousse and with frozen fruit, it tastes just like ice cream (I use berries)
