Default Sin City: Raw and Recut...

I knew this was coming. In august the Sin City DVD came out and boy was it bare bones. All of about two seconds of extras. I didn't buy it because i just KNEW a better one was on the way from the fan milking studios.

    Well, i was right.

December 13 the recut version hits the stands and it's gonna piss some people off. A lotta people bought the original DVD to own the theatrical cut since extended versions don't usually include the theatrical cut. Well, this one does. All the people who bought the original, shitty, version are gonna be foaming at the mouth... They basically got ripped off. Expect to see a lot of copies of the original on ebay in december. Thank god i put the old DVD burner to use rather than buying the original version...

    • 124 minute theatrical release (Thiss will piss some folks off)
    • the 147 minute extended cut.
    • Both will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic
    • commentary with director Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, a second commentary with Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino and a third commentary containing Austin Premiere crowd reaction ( ).
    • a 15 minute film school with the director
    • a Movie in High-Speed Green Screen feature (Whatever that means)
    • 17 uninterupted minutes of Tarantino's segment
    • footage of a Sin City cast/crew party
    • a 10 minute cooking school with Robert Rodriquez (cooking school?).
    • four featurettes on the cars, special effects make-up, costumes and props.
    • a featurette on how they convinced Miller to assist with the film.
    • another featurette on casting (anyone wanna bet me that Jessica Alba plays the "tee hee i didn't know the character was a stripper" card in this).
    • a featurette on Tarantino as the guest director.
    • trailers.
    • bloopers.
    • an interactive game.
    • Topping it all off will be a complete Sin City graphic novel (The Hard Goodbye) which i already own, dagnabbit.

I usually wait a couple of years to buy DVDs of movies these days.

Star Wars made me catch on to the DVD (VHS) game movie studio's play with their customers.

I'll end up owning both versions. I like to compare stuff.

I loved it... I just think that the way they released the DVD's was milking cash from the fans that could otherwise go to other things.

Cool that they are including the first Graphic Novel, though. The one they are packing in with it is "The Hard Goodbye," the Marv/Goldie story... Not the best one (That honor has to go to "That Yellow Bastard" or "Hell and Back", but the first one.

I loved it - I rented the first release and will probably rent the second one too. Aw hell, I'll probably wind up buying it.

I'm very happy with the first version and will buy the second without breaking a sweat. Movie studios do this all the time and it's second nature to me now. The most recent example is New Line/Time Warner and their dual releases for the LOTR trilogy. I bought both versions without batting an eyelash.

At any rate, I'm just hoping for more Jessica Alba, especially some scenes with the cowboy hat on. I have several promos that have her wearing it and I *really* liked that.

People aren't understanding. The Theatrical cut (this *is* the version that came out in august) AND the extended cut are BOTH included in the december release. This isn't like the LOTR flicks. It's like if both the longer lotr movie and the shorter one was on the same DVD. That's why people who bought the first release are gonna be pissed off. People who buy both DVD's are going to own the theatrical cut twice.
