Its taken me about a month. Of course I live at home and waiting till my mom drives me completely insane....hopefully moving out next month. I really want to find a good place.
No car just apt.

that's your flaw

Realistically speaking, the apartment is the easy part ... save up 3 months worth of rent money and you're ready to talk to landlords. A few landlords will give you grief even if you have money in hand because you don't have what they consider to be a 'steady job' or a stable financial history, but most will take the money.
The car is a bit more difficult assuming you're talking about a reasonably good car and not a piece of s#!t. If the car is valued at more than $10,000 (even if some/most of that amount is financed) the state motor vehicle bureau will report the transaction to the IRS when you register it. This will mean that, at some point, the IRS will probably check to see if you have been making estimated income tax payments and filing tax returns. This means that, from the time you start dancing, probably 1/4 to 1/3 of your earnings needs to go towards estimated tax payments (which by law it is supposed to anyhow). Then from the remaining 2/3 or 3/4 of your gross earnings, you need to save up down payment money for the car plus money for insurance.
Well I already had my house and car, but it took us about 4-5 months to buy the bike and pay it off. On one of the other threads, it was mentioned that to keep the money you make you have to live wisely.
I would save up and get a nice and safe apt. It might not be in the ritzy part of town, or have all the extras, but it will be a smaller payment every month. And what you save in rent can go into your house fund.
Same thing for a car. Look for older used cars. Something not too fancy, but reliable that will not cost you 5x it's worth in repairs.
You also might want too look at buying insurance as well.
I'm in the middle of a bankruptcy right now due to medical bills. If I would have thought ahead a little more, I wouldn't be where I'm at legally now. If you have a cronic condition, you will want to check into it asap! * I spent 3 1/2 weeks in a hospital and the bill was over 60k. Thirty grand was from 3 days in ICU alone. If I would have just paid the $198 a month, it would have been much, much less.
yeah kitana that's what I wanted to do. Get a modest apt and a used car that will run me to work and back. I think I'll do what melonie said and save up 3 or 4 months rent before I go apt hunting. Or I may just go back home and save for a house.kitana sorry to hear about those medical bills! I know what you mean when I was prego I stayed in the hospital for a total of a month. It was awful! Nasty food, bad service from some nurses and you gotta pay those crazy high bills for the doctor to just peak in some days and ask you how you feel!best of luck girl.
It took me about three months to get a nicer apartment and 8 months to pay cash for a three year old car.
