Hello,
I am a dancer in Albuquerque, NM where a Spearmint Rhino will be opening tomorrow night. I'm interested in trying it out but was a little put off when they asked me to sign a lease. I've signed papers in other clubs promising to follow rules of conduct, etc. but never a "lease".
The club advertises no fees or schedules but the lease states a minimum of three 8 hour sets a week. A missed set results in a $100 fine. When I asked the manager about it he said "This club won't have schedules, that's for our other clubs, don't worry about it".
The lease also states that there will be cameras and the recorded material may be used in advertising or on the Web. I'm used to cameras in the clubs but only for security. Again the manager said "Oh, we don't really do that, don't worry about it."
The manager's word means nothing against my name on a lease. My boyfriend suggested I could cross out what I don't agree to, initial it, and if they too will initial it I then could sign it. I don't want to be a pain in the ass dancer but I definitely don't want my image used on the web and I can only dance twice a week, not three 8 hour shifts. I want to get in on the new club money but I'm hesitant about signing a one year lease. Am I overreacting?
Has anyone here worked for Spearmint Rhino or signed a lease to work in a club?
