    Default Portland questions

So, I'm interested in dancing here in Portland, OR where I live, and I'm wondering how things operate.

Which clubs adhere to the no contact laws?

    Which clubs do NOT?

What are easy/difficult clubs to get hired at? (Right now, it doesn't matter how many shifts.)

What is the usual tip-out? Numbers for different clubs are appreciated. I'm worried that I'll get somewhere and someone will try to scam me for extra 'cause I'm new.

Which clubs are overly bitchy about figure? (I'm thin, but I'm not a barbie doll.)

Finally, do Portland clubs practice fining? I just saw a thread about this, and now I'm worried.

    Thanks!

Well, I'm not a dancer here in Portland, but I am totally considering it. I've gone to just a few strip clubs over the past few months, just to kind of check them out. The last one i went to, Acropolis, the girls on the day shift were very friendly and grabbed the Portland Exotic Magazine and circled a bunch of places that they said were good for girls that are just starting out. I've been meaning to post about it to see if those girls were telling the truth or not, because I know some girls don't like competition, even though I'm not looking to work very often, just once a week or maybe 2 times a week.

Anyways, I can't find the magazine, i think i may have tossed it, but from what I've seen from the clubs that I've gone to, they all seem to be good about obeying the no contact rule. There's plenty of clubs around here too, if anybody else can tell me more about dancing in this area, I would apperciate it!!

You can e-mail me at [email protected] or [email protected]

    Thanks!!

    And good luck thechaosfairy!!!!!!

Most clubs adhere to no contact, but there are some skanky ones. Stay away from the Sugar Shack, Dillengers, and Pop A Top. I've heard rumors Cocktails and Dreams is no good either. You might want to try Starz or Safari. Also, Exotica or Lush. If you are heavily pierced or tattooed, Union Jacks or Devil's Point may suit you best.
Tip outs and fines vary...you will just have to call and ask. Most clubs are ok with answering your questions on the phone, ask to speak with the manager.
And don't worry about figure. Everyone can dance in Portland. Your best bet is to go around and try out different clubs. There are many options in Portland and you need to find the one thats best for you. Also keep in mind that the money is not as good as in other places. Portland has many clubs and many girls. $200-300 is considered a good night in Portland.

I've worked at a few clubs and most do follow the no contact rules, especially the nicer ones but your gonna find that alot goes on when the bouncer isn't looking.

I work at one of the larger clubs and they pretty much will hire anyone one but may start as a day girl which can be very profitable when the 5 pm crowd comes in. If you can dance good and you show for your shifts you can get on anywhere. I have yet to see management tell a girl that she needs to lose or gain weight.

tip outs very a lot from no house fee to 50 bucks on a weekend nights. Day shifts are cheaper and some places if your the first girl there you don't have to pay a house fee. Usually the house fee gets split by everyone but if you tip extra it is very appreciated, just remember those bouncers are looking out for you and it's the worst to have a dj that doesn't like you.

I would suggest starting in a smaller club or at a larger club but during day shift and always remember you can change clubs. There is so many in Portland it's not worth staying at a place you don't like or aren't making money at.

I think that touched on everything, if not let me know...Schea

Very useful information. Thank you, Schea! I was wondering if you'd be so good as to name names (you can send me a private email from this forum . . .) - you mention you work for one of the larger clubs and that they're good about hiring newbies - which club is that?

I'm interested in working for Union Jacks since I live REALLY close and they look extremely nice to work at -- don't have any tattoos, though, although I have spiral earrings that go through multiple ear piercings and I'm gonna have a mohawk, oh, by tomorrow or so. (Planning on extending it with clip human hair extensions for a more feminine look.)

Working in Portland is pretty nice, one of the reasons being that if you have the right attitude, there's a lot of pride with dancers, and some of the most cool, hot and creative girls I know dance here. I've danced at a range of places (from pretty divey, smoking tons of pot while offstage to swanky downtown places) and I've found that there's always money to be made. Sometimes not much, but there are a lot of guys that really do just want the company. Sometimes the most money I've made has just been at the divier places, where guys just wanna shoot the shit with you, play pool, and be chill. And the no-contact laws are pretty well enforced at clubs, I've found (probably because you can find endless mileage at one of the many lingere stores in town...), so I've never gotten any shit from a guy like, "Well, one of the other girls here gives contact" because, well... dancers here don't really do that too much, they can just go to a place where contact is totally expected and make money there, instead.

I put a comment in the UJ thread in here, too.

Oh, and your figure is definitely not that important. I've worked with heavyset girls that work the 'super sensuous and lush' kind of attitude and girls with no curves at all, and it's about your ability to perform (and as always, hustle).

I'm not heavyset at all, I'm just really *badly* out of shape from living a sedentary lifestyle. But after two weeks at the gym I'm already starting to see improvement. I think it may just take a couple more weeks . . . I think I'll go try out when there is no longer obvious wobbly flab on my back, and there's less this week than there was last, so it shouldn't take too much longer. :-)

    Thanks for all the advice!

Hey! I'm in Portland and having the exact same problem. I was wondering if anyone who replied earlier knowing of clubs who hire newbies could let me know the names as well. The only problem is I'm 19, so it'd have to be a club that allowed that. Thanks guys!

Most clubs here allow you to work when you are 19 but I'm pretty sure that you need to hang out in the dressing room when you're not on stage due to the insane liquor laws.

Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply, I personally work at Exotica right now but not as often as before since school is back in session. They are really cool with minors, minors get their own dressing room and it seems lately that most of the girls work are minors which gives the over age girls a good men to dancer ratio. Just call in or go in for an audition, if it's during the day bring all your stuff b/c you can probably audition that same day. Good Luck!

Oh and if your looking for a smaller club one of my best friends bartends at DV8 and nights are really starting to pick up, girls are doing pretty well there. DV8 has 2 stages and has about 6-7ish girls working on a weekend night where Exotica has 5-6 stages and about 25 girls. Just depends what type of club you like. Feel free to pm me, I will reply a lot quicker if you need names or anything.

So, does this mean the the only money a minor dancing in a club with liquor will make will be from stage only? They wouldn't be able to perform lap/table dances?

No they can do lap dances you just have to sell them at the end of your stage set, you can't walk the floor and if your on stage you have to be dancing at all times. Some clubs actually have a "minor" stage where they can just go and dance around while talking to customers.

Huh, so I would have to ask guys at the rack really fast if they wanna dance before I get off stage, and if I don't get one then I wait in the dressing room for my next stage set?

Here's a strategy, one that works for some girls I know -- If you can, you should try and talk them up while you are on the stage, ask their name, if they're having a good time, etc... while of course doing ridiculously sexy things in front of them! Then when your set ends (and you've had 2-3 songs to charm them), if they indicate interest in you (big tip, ask if you want a drink now, etc), you should say "Well, I'm a minor, which means I'm only allowed out here and on/in the private dance area! Want to head over with me? It'll be $20/song, but I'd love to continue spending time with you" or something like that.

It wont' always work, of course, but asking for private dances never does. But when your company is that exclusive, it can make you a lot more desirable! (Kind of like getting a chance to talk to the dance who's constantly in the private dance area)

    Also, Schea, I pm'ed you

Actually minors aren't allowed to do table dances unless they're done on the stage (!?). I know some clubs let minors do them, but technically it's not allowed.

For DV8 you have to go through an agency, right? I think I've heard some stuff about that.

Yeah I think DV8 goes through Rockstar Promotions. I've never worked for them, but I've heard plenty of bad things about the guy who runs it
