    Default New Orleans Stripper Aid

Strippers offer dollar dances to katrina victims.

It's nice to get the guys' spirits up, but how are you girls doing? Are there a lot of grabby cheapskates?

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - In a sign that things may be returning to normal in New Orleans, strip shows are back in the city's famous French Quarter.

Erotic dancers and strippers are entertaining crowds of police, firefighters and military personnel instead of the usual audiences of drunken conventioneers and tourists in Bourbon Street's Deja Vu club, which reopened this week.

It's the first strip joint to resume business, three weeks after Hurricane Katrina struck in the worst natural disaster ever to hit the United States.

"It's nice to get back to work, and all these men need some entertainment," Dawn Beasley, 27, a dancer at the club, said on Tuesday night. "They haven't seen anybody but their buddies for two weeks."

The crowd hooted and hollered as women peeled off their tops and gyrated, as customers tucked tips into their G-strings.

"This is our first time off the ship and it's great," said one young sailor as he left the club. He declined to give his name or say where he was stationed.

"It's good to see the businesses getting back up and bringing the city back," another sailor said.

New Orleans' strip clubs have long been a fixture of Bourbon Street, where marquees promise everything from "barely legal" dancers to transvestite divas. Photos of the seedy shows inside the clubs line the windows, next to scores of bars in the district that draws tourists from around the globe.

The city's dusk-to-dawn curfew failed to prevent the Deja Vu from staying open to the early hours, with blaring music and neon lights spilling out into the Quarter, most of which remained bathed in darkness in the aftermath of the storm.

"We were open till two last night, just long enough to get the testosterone flowing," Beasley said.

Only a handful of restaurants and bars in the Quarter have reopened in recent days, serving food and drinks -- usually without charge -- to rescue workers and military who stream through the mostly empty streets. The Deja Vu waived its cover charge, drinks were selling for $3 and a private dance was available for just $1.

For Deja Vu manager Brent Ardeneaux, reopening was a public service.

"It's a disaster zone. You got a lot of people in from out of town that need entertaining," he said as he unloaded supplies from the back of a pick-up truck.

The club even drew several women looking for a respite from their duties patrolling the city, but they resisted entreaties to join the others on stage and left after a few minutes.

One of them, a soldier, said: "We were just looking for any place open. We've been working hard."

I'm not surprise that Deja Vu's the first to re-open prematurely. Greedy fucks.

They aren't doing dances for a dollar; at a DV? That clip refers to stage tips. And if they asked for a stage fee I think I would laugh my ass off.

I'm only going by what the Reuters story said ... "The Deja Vu waived its cover charge, drinks were selling for $3 and a private dance was available for just $1". Let's hope that the $1 private dance refers to the Clubs' share.

    I disagree.

Im sure all the girls down there who really really needed a place to work also disagree.

This all depends on your interpretation of 'work'. If you're talking about 'entertaining the troops' as a gesture of personal principle/generosity/support then you are correct. If you are talking about working for the purpose of earning major money, then given the major absence of tourists/conventioneers with money to blow, given a curfew still in effect, and given that no banks are open for retail trade, then these girls would have been far better off migrating somewhere else.

    Ha!!!!!!

The first to leave a sinking ship is da rats!!!!
    next is the strippers!!!

Im talking about "work"in the sense of just that,WORK.

NOBODY in that city is working at walmarts or burger kings or even most office jockey jobs,NOTHING is up and running really, there isnt any employees or custies, except at the VU HA!!!Strip clubs rock!

The only people in the city with cash money are the responders, the only people making "major"money off them is the dancers.

Thier food is free,so is thier tents.

The only thing the people with money(the responders)have to spend money on is entertainment to break the grind of what they have to do all day.

TV's dont work, the movie house is closed, the bars have no chics.
Who else is making cash money like that during this???

Entertainers are going to bank for the next few months in this situation, then the "void"of all the missing conventions will set in.
Many industries depend on them for their lifeblood, not just the stripping industry.

Then they will be hurting like they did over the last month.

i say thank you to the VU.

Its giving alot of girls the chance to build up some travel money before the bottom drops out in those areas.
The Vu can withstand the void in cash, the everyday house girl cant.

They need to ride this wave, then be ready to move out.

Just so ya know Mel,I understand that most of the girls who are working at that Vu are NOT local girls, but girls that the Vu flew in to cover the rotations until they get thier usual girls back,IF they even come back.

Im sure that there is a few local girls, and those are the ones im saying are really really happy that the Vu reopened.

Yeah, I banked after the Supertyphoon on Guam. It offset the increased cost of living for me since I had no electricity like most people and had to eat out every day. LOL.
I'd rush to NOLA to work just for the adventure aspect if I wasn't stuck at home. As Bill Maher (HBO) said last night, "The strippers are back to work [in NOLA]..they don't even have clothes and they're taking them off....that's the spirit!"
But VU better be comping those girls big time. They could go home with infections. Yikes.
