    Default attn dancers- clothing tip

ok, with the way our economy is going rite now, i'm just gonna throw out my $ saving tips i learned from being on the streets. here's one: i cant tell you how many times i'm at work and a girl's outfit needs repair. hand sewing- this is a valuable tool for us. i recommend every girl learns this. i dont have to buy many costumes because i can sew. i just trade clothes with my old squatter buddies and cut the stuff up to make dancer outfits- skirts, tops, shorts, g-strings. grant it i cant use a machine or make a pattern to save my life or work with elastic waistbands very well, but just buying a few outfits that fit well and using them as a pattern to make new ones is a big $$$ saver. stuff can be made from: old tshirts (my fav- easy care, comfortable), old bedsheets, etc. and i've fooled many with this- girls offer me $ to make them something and customers are stunned to find out i made the outfits they fawn over.
here's a site to learn to do so:

I wish i knew how to sew. I remember my mom used to sew my halloween outfits they were better then everyones store bought ones. I actually told my bf the other day that his mom has to teach me how to sew. She used to sew clothes for dancers

I have been buying clothing remnants from fabric stores to make dance clothes. You get a big discount because it's just a piece of nice fabric but it's enough for a micro-dress or bikini set. I do find spandex & Lycra often.
Also, lock your costumes up, girls. Tight times mean sticky fingers.

I make alot of my stuff and I'm no sewing wizz. G-string bikinis are basically 3 triangles, mine are so cheap to make it is barely worth thinking about! The easy way of making them is to use folding elastic for the edges. If you buy folding elastic in bulk it's dirt cheap! You can make a surprisingly good looking wrap from aprox 1 metre sqare of material without any sewing. Handless gloves are basically tubes of stretchy material - socks with the feet chopped off can pass too. (trim noticable edges with fluff or sparkles, folding elastic etc...) 2nd hand and remnant stores are great for bargins! Old bras and g-strings can be covered with sequins or new material if your the patient type and old clothes can be chopped down to make skimpy new stripper gear!

    Thanks for the link toxicgirl!

I don't know what mercerized cotton thread is! I have had alot of annoying little problems in the past with thread, so I tend to spend a little more on thread now which seems to help. I don't know what I'm doing half the time, I just have the vague idea of what i want and hope for the best - as the result is good its ok, lol!
I shall get my mum to teach me the blanket stitch then. I'm sure we were taugh at school that was a while ago!!!

I sew, and it IS a huge $$$ saver. Most of the time- sometimes, you'll find it's not worth your time to spend 2 hours making something when you can buy it for $20, y'know?
But for feature costumes especially, it's invaluable. I can make a full outfit for $40, wear it for a year, and sell it for $100 as a bargain (which it is).

I don't know how you can do your stuff by hand, though?? You must have the steadiest fingers, lol! My hand stitching looks like a 2 year old did it.

And of course, repairing old costumes is the BEST! That's how I get most of mine- I buy beat up old ones and redo them, replace the lost pices, reinforce etc. It's my hobby

    Feature costumes for sale!
