    Good make-up?

I can't seem to find any good foundation that won't make me shiny. Right now I use Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers. It's good coverage but the minute I start to sweat, my face turns into a big "shine-ball"! I've tried a couple oil-free foundations like Almay and Neutrogena, but the texture of them grosses me out. I usually buy from the store, Rite-Aid, etc...but I'm willing to spend a few more dollars in hopes that I can find something that I'm happy with. I haven't started dancing yet and I know when I do, in the next couple weeks, the make-up I'm using is definately NOT going to work, especially up on stage with those lights. PLEASE HELP!

P.S: Do any of you ladies use "stage make-up"? Does it work? If so, where can I find some that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

get out of rite aid first of all.. No offense, but quality makeup is really hard to find there.

yeah, you do get what you pay for in makeup.

I think it's worth it for quality foundation, moisturizer and brushes....you can go cheap (Rite Aid) on lipgloss/stick, mascara, eyeliner and eyeshdow.

The more you pay doesnt mean better quality. MACs stay on (liquid lipstick) is the worst brand i ever tried. The inside comes off and only leaves an just outline of my lips in an hour. But i love everything else by them.

Stripperella: Hmm...let me write that down *lol* Thanks!

I have never bought any make-up from a dept. store. Which ones are the best? I've heard MAC and laura mercier so far. BTW, I'm not rich...yet!

well, what I use and love is Bare Minerals, and I found a really nice knockoff on ebay called everyday minerals. The whole kit for $30 is worth it.

Well first off don't buy makeup you cant try before you buy. I am an independent beauty consultant with Mary Kay. That's our motto by the way. Mary Kay has a really good foundation, they have one that is liquid and one that is a powder. They are really good, mine lasts for quite a while!

use powder over your foundation to prevent shine. you need to reapply every few hours, though.

im from Melbourne Australia, so im not exactly sure if they sell this brand over in the US but i swear by the NAPOLEAN make up range, especially the foundation and bronzer

the foundation covers everything without looking cakey and gives a flawless look, and theres a pressed powder called 'camera finish' that stops it from getting oily

I've always liked L'Oreal products. They are high qualiy and I believe you can actually find them in Rite aid.I love the line minimizing extra coverage foundation with loose powder over it,have been using only that for a few years.Other girls always ask me what is my foundation. It costs about $12.

I agree with Tampafldancer, Laura Mercier is great. Give your foundation time to settle before you continue with the rest of your make-up. Also try Clinque's loose powder called Glow, it has light reflecting quality that makes imperfections disapear.

I used to work for Prescriptives back in college. Yes, you definately want to choose a high-end, good quality foundation. The differences between the cheap and good are the polymers, fillers, water, and oil content. MAC, Shiseido, Prescriptives, Chanel, Laura Mercier, and Bobby Brown are among the best in department stores. Whatever brand you choose, go to a consultant and have them match your under skin tones to the foundation. It's free but (beware) they will pressure you into a sell. Just say your window shopping and trying out different lines. As far as mineral makeup is concerned, it is beautiful and excellent for your skin, but I'm not too sure about its staying power.

I have always been a firm believer in pretreating your skin before makeup application. This REALLY helps with extending the life in your makeup. Start with a clean, exoliated face. Apply a good moisturizer (am actually loving Oil of Olay Regenerist for my dry skin) and then a primer. I have been using Prescriptives "Super Line Preventer" for years now. This is kind of like how an artist applies a primer to a blank canvas before painting on it with acrylics...makes since, huh. Other cosmetic lines make something similar to it.

Invest in some GOOD makeup brushes. You don't necessarily need a foundation brush, you can use sponges for that. Do get a really good powder brush. It should be thick, tight hairs with a flat, round shape sometimes called a kabuki brush. This will matte down the powder on top of the foundation and also draw out excess oils.

Personally, as mentioned in previous threads, I go go cheap on lipsticks, mascara, eyeliner, and shadows (I do buy some MAC though).

One more tip, only apply foundation where you need it, starting at the inside of the cheeks near the nose and spread out. People make the mistake of applying all over their face and getting the "mask" look.

remember to use blush, shimmer and contour if you do use all over foundation! otherwise, you look flat-faced. o, and i love great lash mascara- i've used it forever, and it's so cheap and good!

CLINIQUE. It's not expensive, but it's the best makeup out there.

Drugstores steals- Maybelline waterproof eyeliner-under $7, will not come off.
Almay Lipsticks & foundation- the best, $5-$10 bucks a pop.
Revlon lipstick & eyeshadow- classic, $5-$8.

I love Avon! Look at it this way- if you buy from your local Avon rep, you save gas & time on picking up your makeup yourself, and you support a businesswoman.
Mary Kaye has the best scrub & moisturizer set I have tried. God bless those pink Cadillacs.

If cost is a serious issue for you, I recommend Rimmel. I have oily skin, but their foundation seems to stay unglossy compared to other cheap brands....it is a bit thick, so excellent cleansing is a must...but if you are just on a drug store budget...its what I would recommend in that price range.

MinahSky, Clinique is expensive compared to Covergirl, but I totally agree that it's awesome and worth it. I love their powder and use it for everyday use.

I also like chanel products, but their makeup is kind of expensive over time. I've had more luck with M.A.C. for makeup, but I love their precision line for skincare.

Miss Kitty, if you insist on staying in the drugstore, Revlon has Colorstay that sort of works. It makes me break out, though. For work I use M.A.C. hyper real foundation and powder, but since it has a dewey look you might want something else that's less shiny. My coworkers swear by their studio fix combo for a more matted look. If you get a pro card it's a lot cheaper.

I've always worn cheap eyeliner and lipstick and the more expensive stuff doesn't seem to be any better. But as for foundation, after much searching, I'm concluding that the department store stuff is REALLY much better. I have this tiny sample bottle of Clinique foundation that's been holding me for years, but now that I'm dancing I'll actually need to BUY some of the stuff. :-)
