Do any of you full time dancers do things on the side to put on your resume for when you stop dancing and need to explain an employment gap of several years?

I put all my dancing stuff on my resume as "Promotional Modelling" or "Waitressing" or "Sales and Promotions" lol. It's fine as long as you've got a reference to back it up.
Stay at home mommy... student.... but I also have worked in corporate jobs so I have those.. if you are just now starting to do a resume and haven't had an office job etc.. get something part time.. even if its a runner position at a law firm, or a receptionist for 10 hours a week..
Volunteer work also looks good on a resume... United Way, Red Cross, any of those things.. just have a reference and you should be fine.

Bartender, Waitress, Student, Homemaker, or Stay at Home Mom, all look decent on a resume. References are very important tho.

I really like those ideas and I might even use them myself.Originally Posted by Darcy Foxx

volunteer work always looks great on resumes. i very briefly volunteered at the children's zoo here, and when i was in highschool did some volunteer work with children... and that generally seems to impress employers.

I've done web design and content production (i.e., create and/or edit files and media) freelance and part-time. A computer geek who operates a local web design and ISP firm has become a friend and I can use him however I please. Uh... as a reference, I mean.

I recently returned to my old workplace after a gap spent dancing. I told them I'd been travelling for 6 months... Well I DID spend a few weeks in Belgium, France and then Florida, but they were more like holidays!
A resume's not about telling the truth, it's about making it sound lots better than it is but believable.
Good luck jobhunting!
