I quit using P2P two years ago. Hidden spyware was the second reason.

YES LIMEWIRE IS THE ONE TO GO WITH THERE'S NO BUNDLED SPYWARE OF ANY KIND OR ADWARE. YOU CAN FIND ALMOST ANY MP3 ON THERE. IT'S EASY TO SET UP AND USE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANUONE

Careful, you're going to scare those loyal LW followers.

The latest Limewire version is virus/spyware/malware free. The cleanest P2P program cannot save you from yourself. You have to be prudent when downloading from the WWW. Here are a few tips.

*Never download or run any program smaller than 1mb. (smaller than 1000kb) Most music files are at least 2mb+.

*Never download video files, other than mpg or mpeg files, using Limewire. Others can be full of trojans. Normally you'll have to approve the license request that pops up before the file will play. Don't approve it. Just delete the file and consider yourself lucky.

*Only download limewire.exe from the official LW site.

Althena might have been referring to the Bagle virus which would wreak havoc on your email setup. Once again, if you're prudent about what you download you will never have an issue. I've been surfing the WWW for over 12 years and have only seen one potential virus on any of my machines. Without AV protection I would have probably been screwed. Updated AV protection is a must. Anyways, here's a link to the info about Bagle.

Note: If you happen to still be living in the LW stone age either update your version of LW pronto or read this article. I'f you're using an older version of LW the best thing to do is go into your control panel/add.remove programs and uninstall it form there. Reboot and then go to the official LW site to get the latest version. Install. Presto.

its a new version of the Zodiac virus

it makes limewire keep trying to start itself. it floods your HD with zip files .. in a hidden folder.. that are all the same size (669kb for me) it makes ctrl alt del not work.. and you cant open command prompt or registry editor unless you do like it says in the link i put.

it alsomakes you get like 6 or 7 popups all the time.. (i mean.. 1 or 2 at a time.. but always the same ones)

I prefer mp3 newsgroups to preview tracks from CDs that I am considering buying. Probably not too good for Rock music, but I don't collect that type. Any P-to-P is way too risky for copyright infringement stings. Besides I've never gotten a virus alert from those newsgroups, just Russian websites anymore.

I used to be able to find shops that would let me preview in the shop but that's long gone now. You know, if you buy something you don't like you can't return it even for purchase credit. The recording industry should consider the long term implications for its policies.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I'm pretty sure that can only be obtained by:

    1. Downloading a limewire.exe from a secondary site offering the program (you never know waht you're really executing)

    2. Downloading an infected file via Limewire (it can't save you from yourself)

    3. Using an older version of the program (the new LW is clean)

I've been using it after I realize WinMX was taking a permanent dump some months ago. I've never had a problem and I download lots of music & porn.

If anyone is interacting with the WWW without AV proection and possibly even firewall protection I respect your bravery.

Just a heads up.. If you use Avast (which I strongly recommend), and you are downloading something containing a virus, it will alert you WHILE you are downloading. It'll give you the option to either clean the file (which never works, of course), or delete it altogether.

Microsoft AntiSpyware will also do the same thing.

All that said.. I use LimeWire. I've used it faithfully for years (with the occasional use of WinMX). I've found that if LimeWire doesn't have it, WinMX will. So it's always good to have a number 2.
