    Default Your Favorite "Unknown" Movie?

What are some of your favorite movies that not many people have heard about? It could be a foreign film or just a hidden Hollywood gem.
Here are a few of mine:

    Crying Freeman
    Dead or Alive 1,2,3
    Battle Royale
    The City of Lost Souls
    Boondock Saints
    Immortal
    Brotherhood of the Wolf

    "It's My Party"

Really weird, kind of morbid movie. Eric Roberts plays a guy who is dying of AIDS and Cancer. He decides that he's going to check out on his own terms, and decides on a day to end his life.

It's interesting to say the least. I was fine with it up to the m/m kiss. Heh

    "equilibrium" with Christian Bale

It is a French movie. Sooooo good! A girl is having an affair w/ a married doctor, you see it from both sides things are not what they seem! Lilya 4ever is another one, about Russian prositution, very sad. Swimming Pool, Dirty Pretty Things, and Thirteen are all really good.

I thought "Memento" was well-known, but nobody I talk to has seen it. I loved it.

"Bless the Beasts and Children." "Bad Day at Black Rock." "Siddhartha."

"Permanent Record" from 1988 with Keanu Reeves.

"The Salton Sea" from 2001 with Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio. (Fine film but release coincided with Sept.11, so the well-regarded film went largely unnoticed. Similar to "Memento".)

"Bullet in the Head" by John Woo- character study set in Vietnam during the war.

"Distant Thunder" with John Lithgow and Ralph Macchio, about Vietnam vets.

"Pink Lightning" an indie film set in my formerly remote region of CA. Girl's boyfriend cheats on her- with her best friend. Girl's brothers beat up boyfriend on his front lawn. (Got a big kick out of the climax set at Yosemite National Park.)

    "Ghost Warrior"

No, not the animated one, the one briefly known as "Swordkill" about a samurai encased in ice for 400 years who is revived in 1980s Los Angeles. A brief review

    review

Ok, so it's a B-movie science fiction/action-adventure flick, but I still love it! Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it is only available on VHS.

Anita, Dances with Vice I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie! It's German but subtitled.

Anita: Dances of Vice is based on the life of Anita Berber, the first Nude Dancer and the most scandalous woman in Weimar Berlin. She preferred Vice, Horror and Ecstasy as the subjects of her performances, and flaunted her bisexuality and abuse of drugs. She died of tuberculosis in 1928.
In von Praunheim's film, the Silent Expressionist Era comes alive through the visions of an old woman who claims to be Anita. Committed to a psychiatric hospital, she relives the wild, short life of Anita, a life which makes Sally Bowles look like Doris Day.

    Snip

I also loved Made In Britain and Breaking Glass and don't know why they never became more well known films in the punk and related scenes...

Mutant Action is also great - A Spanish movie about a bunch of disabled terrorists - very bizarre, black humour lol!

omg, the doom generation upset me. I saw it when I was young, and was just so bothered by it forever. good sountrack though- started my love affair with pizzicato 5 . I eventually saw everything I could find by greg araki...pretty much all of it bothered me, actually.

A coupel of kiwi movies that are popular down there but not anywhere else (maybe australia?) I really like... The Price of Milk and In my Father's Den.

    Feature costumes for sale!
