    Default Club Formats

    Greetings all,

A couple quick questions to anyone who may be privy to such knowledge...

    (1) What are the pros/cons (no comments are needed as to the legality of any of these)of the following formats?:

    1. BYOB, full nude, no contact

    2. BYOB, topless, no contact

    3. No alcohol, full nude, one-way contact

    4. Would option #2 be better than option #3 and why?

    (2) Do dancers sell fewer private dances in clubs with no contact versus ones that have contact? If so, how many fewer?

    (3) Do topless clubs with alcohol make more money than full nude clubs with no alcohol? How much more or less?

    (4) Do dancers prefer contact or no-contact private dances? Why?

    (5) Do BYOB clubs typically charge the customer per bottle that they bring in? If so, how much?

Thanks very much for your input!

The best-money club I ever worked was full nude, BYOB, mild-to-moderate one-way contact [i.e. no full-on grinding, except maybe in the private rooms]. The club did increasingly well each year for about seven years, until it was shut down for good....
(Note: In order to shut it down, the city had to pass a local "quality of life" ordinance regarding businesses in which a certain number of arrests had taken place, and then implement a lengthy sting operation. The club hadn't exactly been welcomed with open arms by the Catholic church located directly across the street )

I think I explained in another post why I thought the full nude BYOB model was perfect. Everyone's happy. I'm not sure how it works legally, though--in a way it seems to good to be true (and in a way I suppose it ultimately was.)

Surprisingly, I always felt safe in that club. You might think that the combination of alcohol and nudity would lead to all kinds of bad behavior (by dancers and customers alike), but in my experience, it was no worse than a topless club (or nude juicebar) as far as the amount of rule-breaking that took place.

    2. BYOB, topless, no contact
Never heard of such a place. I don't think there's any reason to forego making money off liquor if you're not planning to have your dancers go nude. (except, perhaps, for the lower overhead??)

    3. No alcohol, full nude, one-way contact
Not so good. As Venus pointed out in your other thread, it tends to attract a young crowd. You don't want your club to become an after-school hangout. Perhaps you could enforce a 21-and-over policy, even without alcohol?

Also, guys in a juicebar tend to be sort of miserable. For some reason, it's just not as much fun to look at naked chicks sober. And how much can you really charge for a can of Snapple? The draw would have to be the dancers, so you'd want to be a little more exclusive in your hiring practices for a club like this.

Cover charge tends to be a little higher in these places, too. I guess you have to find the perfect balance between a cover that is high enough to keep out the riff-raff and shore up your bottom line, but not so high that you significantly reduce your customer base.

    4. Would option #2 be better than option #3 and why?
I'd say if you can't do full nude with BYOB stick to the topless-with-alcohol model.

    (2) Do dancers sell fewer private dances in clubs with no contact versus ones that have contact?
YES. (Though it may depend on the market. If customers can go down the street for a high-mileage grindfest, they may not be too keen on a $20 airdance, no matter how gorgeous your girls are. However, if you're the only show in town, you may not need to push the envelope as far in terms of contact.)

    If so, how many fewer?
I couldn't say exactly. But I'm betting it's a lot. Dependent upon numerous variables, of course.

    (3) Do topless clubs with alcohol make more money than full nude clubs with no alcohol? How much more or less?
That's a very good question, but one which I am not qualified to answer. Again, I'm sure it depends upon the interplay of multiple factors. I'm guessing the former, generally speaking, but who knows? Your overhead is MUCH higher in a club with alcohol, yes?

    (4) Do dancers prefer contact or no-contact private dances? Why?
    Depends on the dancer.

I personally preferred mild-to-moderate one-way contact. Air dances are boring for all involved. Grindfests leave trouser burn on our sensitive bottoms (...especially in the wintertime when everyone's wearing woolen slacks. yowch.) Two-way contact, nipple-sucking, and extras begin to blur the boundaries between stripping and prostitution.

I don't want to work at a club where I'll be chewed out by some housemom or manager who calls me a dirty pig for violating that obnoxious "six-inch rule"....but neither do I want to work at a club where the girl in the booth next to me is giving a BJ without reproach, thereby setting customer expectations far too high for my liking.
Happy medium is what I'm getting at here.

    (5) Do BYOB clubs typically charge the customer per bottle that they bring in? If so, how much?
Yes, I believe there were some sort of bottle fees, paid either at the door or at the bar (I can't remember the exact details.) It was some reasonable fee (maybe $5 or $10 per?), but I don't remember if it was per six-pack/liquor bottle, or per person in the party, or per party...I do remember that the bartender would hold all alcohol behind the bar and serve it. That way she got some tips and could monitor the consumption. Not sure how much of this was determined by applicable law.

    Hope this was sorta helpful.

It doesn't have to be. I've seen it done with only a service bar (waitress delivers to the tables), beer in bottles/cans, and expensive mixed drinks (discouraging them). The dancers get less beer spilled on them when there are no glasses.

Other than that, I think Nic was consistently on the mark.

Nicolina...wow! Great response. Thanks a bunch. I have to digest it all. I'm sure I'll be back here very soon with some more questions based on what you've given me.
