Exclamation Birth Control (BC) & blemishes (long)

I keep seeing that girls are having breakouts (body & face) and they all seem to be on BC so I just figured I should tell you about my experience with BC because some of you may start to look into alternative BC methods if you knew what it could do to your body.

I took BC for 10 years. I was on Ortho-tri for 3 years, Ortho for 2, Modicon for almost 5. Several times; sometimes 2-4 times a year) I was on antiobiotics for Bronchitis, walking pnemonia, and acne in the last 2 years I took the pill.

I went to the dermatologist for acne that I was sure was being caused by my BC. He put me on a daily dose of antiobiotics; which worsened my acne for 2 years. I'm not just talking about facial acne, I mean on my neck, back, arms, and legs. It was getting worse and they were not healing.

Finally I went to the health food store and talked to the owner. he took one look at my legs and said I probably had chronic candidias. Asked if I had been taking BC and antibiotics; then gave me a book that had a quiz/questionaire at the front and told me to take it to see whether I was having the symptoms described. It was what I was going thru in detail.

He got me started on a plan to reverse the problems and repair my "intestional flora". Which included a daily oral cadida pill; extreme for 30 days and then lowering intake, severe diet regulations, and acidopholus pills. It worked! I still have scars but I am slowly working on healing them. But I notice that whenever I eat foods I am not supposed to or take antibiotics I have to damn near start over again. Sulfites are a big no-no. As are any foods with citric acid.

Basically a raw diet is the best way to go for a year after starting the program. It doesn't really cost much to do it. Initially $25 for the candida pills, $3 for acidopholus, and I bought a book titled Chronic Candiasis for $15. I also think it helped when I started eating a serving of yogurt a day, I noticed that change immediately. It helps to not eat any processed foods as well as try to cut out alcohol.

If you are on BC and have been for more than a few years, you should consider this information and look into it other BC you would be comfortable with.

From what I understand; BC was initially created to prevent pregnancies between children, not as a long term method so that may be why a lot of studies weren't accurate as to the effects of long term hormone supplements. Just a thought and I do hope it helps others out there.

That's an interesting post! I've had implanon for just over 3 years (recently got it replaced) and I do get breakouts on my face that I'm pretty sure are because of it... not as bad as you, though, so I figure it's a trade-off for the fantastic protection against pregnancy. I'll be off it as soon as I can afford a pregnancy if it occurred, but unfortunately that won't be for quite some time!

Our bodies sure function a lot better without a lot of the junk we put into them.

My back, chest and face have been close to flawless since I started on BC 3 years ago. I've only been on antibiotics twice in my life and luckily I have never suffered a yeast infection because of it. Sorry you've had such a bad expierience.

It was a horrible two years dealing with it, but I learned a lot from it about how my body reacts to hormones. I just hope by my posting what happened to me that maybe some other girls going thru it without knowing whats going on will get some help or at the very least not feel like their body is fucking with them all the time.

It's more of a problem than I ever realized for a lot of women, but they would go to dr. after dr. only to be prescribed more antiobiotics or switched to different BC. Making the problem worse.

The thing is it isn't a yeast infection down below like the typical one we think of. It's in your intestional tract and it affect various parts of your body like an allergic reaction. I never had an actual vaginal yeast infection until I started on the dermatologists daily antibiotics.

I also had clearer skin my first couple years on BC, it didn't start happening until I was in about year 7 or 8 of taking BC.
