Default dancing slow all the time?

I've seen around the boards that all types of music gets played, even uptempo songs. But I've also read that your dancing should be slow and methodical....sensual movements. So do you still dance slow during the upbeat songs as well? I'm not getting the jist of it all. Someone fill me in.

Some advice I received from an unusual source which has worked quite well for me:

Listen to the beat of the song...
Then dance half a beat slower than the actual beat...

....hence you will be able to dance to any song no matter how upbeat and look sexy!

The only time this doesn't apply is when the song is slow/downbeat.

Close your eyes and lose yourself in the music.. and do not follow the "beat" or the bass of the song.. follow what some musicians call the wave- hard to find at first.. you find it by listening to the singer, not the music.. try focusing on the singer without the music.. like a metronome (sp?).. if you've ever played a musical instrument, you follow the rhythm..
