Ive found that educating on what fats are good, what carbs are good, how much to eat and how to notice things about your hungry pangs (sp?) helped out alot. I was 162-165 and now Im down to 130.

The best thing to do is to start and youve gotten that far. So congrats thats the hardest part. Most of loosing wieght is diet so pay VERY close attention to what you eat. Exercise is a helper I believe to aid in the loss of fat. Its 80% diet.

Not sure if this helps but cook good foods in bulk (since you have to anyways you have kids) and store some in the freezer for later. That way when your having a super busy day (what day isnt) you can just defrost one. Instant frozen dinner!

My motto is: If it isnt grown or hunted it shouldnt be eaten.

i used to weigh 230. i went vegan for a year and lost 70 lbs. without excersising, or even really paying attention to what i was eating. it takes discipline, but if you have a whole foods store or co-op near you, give it a go. for reccomendations on what vegan products taste good and what are like tofu frosted cardboard, pm me.

I used to be all over from 148 to 150 and then 145, the highest I got was around 155 and am now 120-125 (five pounds for water gain during that time of the month, but usually right around 120 or lower)... I cut out all fast food, and I prepare all meals myself.. I pay very close attention to what I put in my mouth and I exercise. I run all the time.

But honestly, try cutting out fast food.. you will see a HUGE difference, and what I mean by fast food is not just drive thru, its Lean Cuisines, things like that as well... eat leafy greens and lean cuts of meat, cheese and fruits and drink lots of water. Cut out all sugar and cut out all white flour. Replace the white flour with whole grains and whole wheat bread.

I lost 65 pounds after my pregnancy.I totally cut out ALL fast foods and breads. I love bread! It was hard the first week but when I started to see the weight come off it was my motivation to keep on going. I also didn't know how or what to eat since I never had issues with my weight in the past. I bought a health and fitness magazine and followed a healthy diet plan. I went to WholeFoods to buy what I needed and I was on my way! I also let myself have cheat days every week when I could eat a cookie or three, so i wouldn't go insane! I don't have the cheat days anymore, when I want something sweet I eat cherries or grapes. Best of Luck with your post pregnancy weightloss!

In October of 2002, I weighed in at 285lbs. Now I weigh in at 190. I cut calories from about 2200 a day to about 1600 a day PLUS lots and lots of exercise. I play collegiate softball so that keeps me active, plus I lift weights regularly.

Gynger, are you saying those Lean Cuisine things are fattening? Like even if you only eat that?

Lean Cuisine are better than fast food, but they are full of preservatives and salt...which is what I think she's saying. There is research out there that says diet soda hinders weight loss too. Go figure!

Anyway, I have been all over the scale. I was almost 200lbs. Did weight watchers and got down to 160 (I'm 5'9") which is where I was when I started dancing. I danced in the 155-165 range for a long time, but am now 145.

I have to agree with VOW on the vegan diet. I'm not vegan, but I cut red meat out and reduced dairy a lot, and I choose whole grains over processed grains. That, and lots of fruits and vegetables is how I lost that last 10lbs.

I once last 47 pounds. Went from 236 to 189. I am 6-5, I remember at the time, when I got below 190, my best friend told me I looked like an Ehtiopian, so I put 15 pounds on again. I got a little carried away. I am currently in the process of trying to lose about 20 pounds...I let the weight sneak back up and now weigh 235 again. Actually, I let it get to 256 and have lost 20....

    oh....how I did it then-

Cut diet down to about 1200 cals a day, ran and played basketball daily. Simple enough.

This time-less regimented-cut cals down but not counting. Exercising a lot more, including lifting some weights to keep metabolism up.

The most I've ever weighed was 180lbs. Currently I'm at 140lbs and I like it. But I've recently gotten involved in modeling, so I know losing an extra 10-15lbs wouldn't hurt. My focus right now is losing INCHES. Losing inches is so much more important than losing "weight"

Extasy, you say you "signed up for a gym and plan to go 4 days a week" when did your membership start? To keep myself motivated I go work out daily (been going everyday for the past 1.5 weeks thank you very much). I start my day working out, so that I have no excuses later.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? Whatever you do, start slowly and then work your way up. I would love to see how your progress is coming.

    5'2 went from 138 to 112lbs

Did this over the period of a year.Slowly cut out night carbs, sugar, and sodas. I eat more now (6 small meals) and slowly shrunk my appetite by watching portion intake. I eat good most of the time but If I want something bad I can afford to do it now and not feel deprived and binge eating.

I'm 5'6" and I went from being 180 to being 125 (quite a few years ago). Of course, I've put on 20 pounds since I stopped dancing (and starting eating like shit again)...but I'm in the beginning process of going back to a natural eating style.

It's ALL about the eating. There are several important things you need to learn about eating. First, you NEVER eat anything that has hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils in it. That means that the food has TRANS FAT in it and since your body cannot process it...it stores it, which means instant fat. NEVER heat oils (except Olive Oil) to a high temperature...which basically means no cooking or baking with oils (except Olive Oil). When you use oil to bake or cook, you heat it up and it changes the properties of the oil...making them into trans fats. And, like I said before, Trans Fats are bad for you. If you get the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, use it for cooking and baking...your body will thank you.

The more vegetables you eat, the better off you are. Really learn how to cook with loads of veggies and just a little (4 oz) of meat. Sometimes people eat because they think they're hungry...but really, they are just thirsty. Train yourself that everytime you feel hungry but don't know what you want to eat, DRINK WATER. If you are still having the "need to eat" then find something healthy to eat. Do not eat anything with refined sugar/flour/etc. in it. It spikes your blood insulin levels up dramatically and then you crash (hence what starts the "cravings" for certain foods). Cut out salt from your diet. A lot of foods have WAY too much salt in it (Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers, Fast Foods especially). I never use salt and I am always getting compliments on my cooking. I replace salt with all kinds of other spices.

It's very hard to cut out the "bad" foods. Not just because of habit, but because they really ARE made addictive by the manufacturers to keep life-long customers. They're almost like big, legal drug dealers.

You can do it...you may stumble along the way (I did) but just keep on keeping on.

Oh, and exercising...I exercised 6 days a week. Three days of weights and 3 days of intensive cardio.

Don't drop your caloric intake. Just change the foods you are eating and keep (or start) eating every 2-3 hours you are awake.

    Good luck!!

    My take on lean cuisines-

I suppose that if you aren't just eating these and these only one once in awhile is ok, Healthy Choice, Lean cuisnes, etc... just have an ass load of sodium and they have higher carbs. Plus they are full of chemicals.. my rule is, if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it. LOL... and VG is absolutely right on the fats.. trans fat is a big evil monster... olive oil is much better for you, plus its lighter and you have less digestive problems. Its a natural oil. That's the other thing.. the more natural the food, the better off you are.. If you have a health food store in your area, I strongly encourage you to check it out.

For me personally, if I want something like a rice bowl with vegetables, I'll buy some fresh veggies and steam some brown rice.. I am extremely concious on what I eat... I REFUSE to be 150 and a size 10 again.. my frame is just much prettier at 120 pounds.. not that there was anything wrong before, I just feel better, look better and have more pizazzz!

I guess you can say I've gotten anal about it, even my daughter is being watched on what she eats.. so many children with weight problems and her real dad is a big guy... and she has had some pudginess in recent years where we've had to slim her down..

Just read your labels and try to prepare as much yourself as you can. Remember that fish is an excellent source of protein as well and it can be prepared so many ways... if you need receipes etc.. feel free to PM me...

and Emily is right about diet soda.. so I switched, now when I feel the urge for something sweet.. I drink Diet Peach Snapple.. that stuff ROCKS.

My highest weight was 160lbs in college. I wasn't FAT but I hated it because I wasn't one of those skinny minnies you see walking around in tiny shorts. I was always so embarrassed and could never figure out what I was doing wrong.

Then one day, my then boyfriend, now hubby, asked me to start working out with him. I began exercising and it encouraged me to start eating better. But as it has been mentioned, exercise is very important but the key to weight loss is diet!

First thing I did was cut out the partying and booze drinking. Thinking back on it, drinking 3-4 beers and a couple of buttery nipple shots packs about 800 calories. This is about 1/2 my daily caloric requirement to maintain my current weight. Yikes! And everyone knows that anything in site (especially Taco Bell drive thru) looks yummy at 3am when you've got a hella buzz. If I have a drink now, it's a glass of red wine, maybe three if I'm frisky and wild, but at 90 cals a glass that's about 270 cals and I figure that into my daily intake.

And agreed, no Fast Food, break the habit now! And educate yourself about food. So many products people think are healthy foods are horrible for you. Like 95% of breakfast cereals are processed junk! Learn about portion control, serving sizes, and very important learn how to read food labels. So many things you think are a single serving are 2 or 3 servings. One of my "comfort foods" used to be Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie dinner. Turns out one little pie is 2 servings and each serving is about 1000 calories.

Watch your condiments and salad dressings too. Who knew that 2 measley tablespoons of ranch have on average 175 cals per serving, and I was pouring like 1/4 cup on my salad and dipping breadsticks in it. Grosses me out now to think about it. Now, I make my own with a teaspoon of EVOO, dijon mustard, a drip of honey, lemon juice, and herbs. Yummy!

Anyway, I could go on and on, but really you just need to educate yourself. When you do, it makes it harder to put crap in your body.

Most salad dressings are loaded with Trans Fat as well. The other thing about condiments...is that when they are made "fresh" they taste a helluva lot better than the stuff you buy in the bottles at the store! I make my own catsup and coctail sauce at home...along with homemade pasta sauce. When all of the stuff is mixed and cooked together, you really get the full flavor of everything...and you'd be amazed at how "gross" the pre-made stuff in jars tastes after a few months of not having it. It's more time-consuming to make everything at home...but, hey, it's your body and your are worth the extra time. You'll feel more alive and healthy doing that as well.

it grosses me out to think about what I used to eat too. Convenience foods (anything in a box or a bag or microwavable) is the death to my diets.

If I have to make something, I'm more likely to eat only when I'm really hungry. Food requiring a plate and a fork and eaten at a real table (not couch, desk or car) actually helps.

When I started dancing 4 yrs ago I weighed 160 and over the next yr due to drinking and such I put on 10lbs, and then about a yr later quit. I put on over 40lbs the next yr and then on New Years Eve last yr I said it was going to change, I started working out, cardio 5-6 days a week and weight training 4 days a week, on top of that I ran the stairs in my office building where I worked every other hour (10 flights). Keep in mind this is with a totally clean diet too.I started dancing again in August weighting 150 and now weigh about 140. I'm 5'7 and would like to drop another 10-15lbs before surgury (getting my BA in january).

The first 2 pics attached are what I looked like at 190, the last is current, you can see what dramtic weight loss does to your boobs

The last time I successfully managed to lose post-baby weight....

I did Ediets for 3 months, in conjunction with the Self Challenge, went vegetarian, cut all white carbs out of my diet (whole wheat / whole grain everything), completely eliminated all canned vegetables (strictly fresh or frozen), prepared everything with baking or steaming, completely cut out caffeinated and sweetened beverages, and pulled as many shifts in a row as I could manage at a high-rotation club. Plus threw in some home workouts.

Pregnancy-induced morning sickness worked better, but I don't recommend it.

I've found that eating only raw foods takes weight off, keeps it off, makes your skin glow, and makes you feel generally all around better. plus i eat all that i want!! check out the book raw food real world and also raw- the uncook book. they both have super yummy recipes, you wont ever want junk food again.

    Hi,
all you ladies really make sence with your suggestions. I guess the most important is to cut out all the fast food and all sugar filled sodas, etc.

These kind of approach really helped me when I came back to US after spending time in Europe. All the easy to get and cheap (as compared to EU) sweets are diet killers.
Right now I am 120lb (5.3ft) but I hope to loose 15 more pounds by walking more, not eating any bread and using HydroxylCut, vitamin B12 (increases metabolism).

As a matter of fact, I found some good+ fast weight loss advices in pro-anorexia web sites. Just google "pro-ana" or "thinspiration" and there will be a lot of them listed.
