Default Is it worth doing full time???

Hey everyone..so now it's been about a month since i started dancing and have been doing pretty well. The thing is, I put in my 2 weeks at my regular job because I commute WAY too far and it's taken a toll on me...with gas, beating up my car, taking time out of my life, etc. So basically I only dance 1-2 times a week. So here's the deal..I graduated college last year and have been in a pretty good job position, but I would still make more $$$ stripping...errr! SO right now I want to apply to law schools for next year and my main goal is to pay off my debt. No one knows I do this except my best friend, so I would have to have a cover up if I decided just to strip full time (or at least I mean have that as my only job). I've been applying to other jobs, but this always seems to pay more and I'm wondering if it's worth it to just do this...I dunno why I'm so scared to just do this...maybe cause I feel like I should be working in something geared towards my career, i'm worried about what I can put on resumes in the future ,worried this decision will affect my future as a lawyer (Yes i saw the thread on this particular part), and worried that as soon as i stop working at my regular job for some reason the stripping money isn't gonna be as great. Someone please help cause I have no other people to talk to about this since no one knows what I do on the side...THANKS!!!

oh...and also forgott to mention that I'm gonna have to do all that tax stuff since I would only be doing this full time...I wouldn't know what to file it under--and i'm assuming it's gonna be evident in my record that i'm a dancer!

IF you dance full-time, make sure you have enough in the bank to pay your expenses for the next 6 months.....an unexpected emergency like a broken ankle or a shut-down club can leave you broke and unemployed. (Look at the dancers on the Gulf Coast right now...)
I've danced primarily for four years and it's been very unpredictable.

okay, I did this...I quit my full-time computer programming job to dance full time. it's been over two years and I haven't looked back. Just make sure you treat it like a full-time job. Work a consistent (full) schedule. Buy health insurance and save in a retirement program of some type.

You should be doing the "tax stuff" anyway. You can put yourself as a freelance artist. There is a ton of information on this in Dollar Den.

It becomes financially bad when you get wrapped up in the club Drama or view this as a party not work. Stick to a schedule like you would a 9-5 job. You would not be able to keep a job if you showed up when you wanted to and decided you didn't feel like working.
I appreciate my flexability and income but dont take it for granted.

I'm working only as a dancer right now to pay for teacher certification. I'm listed with my school district as a substitute teacher, and I go sub every once in a while, so that my resume says I did something for the past year when I go apply next fall. I don't know if there's anything like this in law, but it works well for me.

I did it! I quit my full time job that was in my field...and started dancing full time. That was 8 months ago. I recently got a day job, but it's still not in my field...I just wanted some extra "stable" money coming in...plus benefits. There's no way anyone can guarantee you that you'll make it financially in this industry. Every night is a crap shoot. But I will say, that in 8 months, my end of the week income is almost always the same.......but varies widely from night to night.

I'm biased - I never really had a career or full time j.o.b that I left to start dancing full time. I pretty much worked in hospitality as a casual... was unemployed for bits... and got over it all.. gave this a go.. liked it.. and decided to do it. I've been legit for 2 years now.

For me, it is totally worth it. I've learnt alot about myself and especially about being in business for yourself. The financial education I have been able to undertake through being in business for myself is priceless.... and will hopefully serve me well in the near and distant future (as I want to be the owner of a few businesses first then an investor).

None-the-less, I do not plan to work for someone else ever again once I finally leave this industry hence what I did in my past (what I'm doing now) won't really matter.

For you.. I would keep dancing as a lucrative "extra income" thing. Get some sort of employment esp. one that will help you out due to what you are planning to study. You sound like the type of person who is quite happy as an employee instead of being an entrepenur (sp?) or employer. Therefore dancing full time (being a business owner/operator) won't work for you.

BTW... in re: dancing full time.. some dancers only work 2-3 times a week (5 -8 hour shifts) and regard that as dancing full time.

In the end, what are you plans and how do you plan to implement that plan?
