    Default europe esp. france

    Hey ladies!

I have been dancing in northern CA for about a year and a half. I am planning to transfer down to SoCal next summer for school, and of course continue dancing there as well. The school I am transfering to has an EXCELLENT international program, and I am seriously looking into the program they sponsor in Aix-en-Provence, which is a town in the south of France. This is a good choice for me because I have relatives in France, and I have been wanting to learn French for some time (not to mention how great it looks on a resume that you spent a year abroad and speak a foreign language).

I know France is one of the most popular European destinations for American dancers, since it is relatively safe & American-friendly (towards young beautiful girls). I was just wondering who here has danced in Europe, esp. France (not just in Paris). How's the money? What kind of permit do I need and how expensive or hard is it to find? Can I make a living dancing 2-3 nights a week (I am good looking, have nice big real-looking boobs, blonde, and I at that point I will have been dancing for 2+ years). Any advice or shared experiences will be greatly appreciated.

The problem in France is that there are very few US style clubs { just the 3 in Paris I think} though there are other strip places like the Crazy Horse and the small semi porno clubs on the Pigalle. French employment law does not like self employed status so the 3 Paris clubs all recruited via London { may have changed I'm not sure}. The 3 Paris clubs are Stringfellow's, Hustler, and Pink paradise the later being locally owned.

London has been covered on this site several times, there are possibly 20 or more clubs now and 20 or 30 strip pubs. The clubs tend to have too many girls on and high house fees, the best place to work is still probably Browns a pub in East London. A lot of the clubs are recruiting all the time, Browns is quite difficult to get a job at.

If you look on www.strip-magazine.com { for some reason I can't post a proper link on here these days} there is a feature on Paris plus stuff on other clubs. If you look at the articles bit of www.mypole.co.uk there are some discriptions of the London clubs and the diffferences.

I lived and studied in Paris for two years and the first year I was there, American dancers could go through thebestdancers.com or a UK based agency for 2-4 week contracts with the possibility of extending. I, however, had never tried to strip my first year there and only towards the end of the year did I get my nerves up to go to Stringfellows with a girlfriend in tow to audition and I was obviously a newbie and not hired. With a year back in California, I then started to look into stripping seriously and ended up working in LA and then moved back to France for more studies. In that time span, the laws for 'entertainers' changed drastically and American dancers have an uphill battle attaining contracts in most EU countries now, and particularly in France where at clubs like Pink Platinum you are paid by check and must have a work permit to allow for a banking account to deposit your checks. If you have European citizenship, you can go through an agent for 2-4 week bookings, otherwise, you would have to count on hoping a reputable club will bend their rules to hire you illegally, which is not likely as they can legally hire a British/Aussie/Canada (the latter two being commonwealth countries with agreements with the EU for employment) and avoid red tape. Hustler, Stringfellows, and Pink Platinum are all very upscale establishments and as such would not want to get caught up in the legal ramifications of hiring someone without proper documentation.

The only way I could see going around this is to get a valid general working visa as an 'english teacher' and hoping that will be sufficient but that is just a shot in the dark.
