I was told Rick's Cabaret in NY is playing 70% rock'n'roll....right on! That's the way it should be, customers don't want to listen to dance, hip hop, or r&b. I worked for a club in New Jersey, and they had "Rock 'n' Roll Tuesdays"...nothing but rock!!!!, which I thought was a great idea!

I dunno. I personally like dancing to rock, but I know tons of customers who like to hear some hip hop, some who don't even like the rock and wish there was more hip hop being played, and some who wish everyone would just dance to like, Bruce Springstein and Enya or something, so....I think variety is good. That way you get more customers instead of catering to the one group that only likes rock.
yeah i suppose you are right naomi, but i find that the majority of customers in the clubs i have worked at are all about the rock..... mabye its just the whole strip club rock vibe...
My theory? Most of the spendy SC custys are white guys in their late 30's and up. They will likely prefer to listen to music that reminds them of their youth, more carefree days, typically 70's and 80's rock.
Other stuff can be fun once in a while, but in terms of customer preference, rock seems to be it.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"
Ernest Hemingway on writer, aviation pioneer and horse trainer Beryl Markham

Here in NW Jersey it's all about the rock. Guys here are more interactive when that stuff gets played. I think it's alot of fun when you're up there and they're all singing and digging my show.
Ugh, I couldn't think of anything worse, lol!
Try the Christies Caboret clubs......it is a large chain.....the owner doesn't allow rap in any of his clubs!

As much as I prefer the energy in the room when rock is being played, there needs to be variety. Different guys like different things, and you can't always tell by looking at them. I think as long as it's not a solid wall of anything, ie too many slow boring whiny r&b songs, too many bang bang bang arrrrrggggh rock songs, etc in a row....it's fine.
I've worked in several upscale clubs where hiphop isnt allowed. But even then it becomes a "well...are the black eyed peas hiphop? what about this janet jackson remix with missy in it? what about dee-lite's 'groove is in the heart'? Q-tip raps in that." type of game. As long as it's not obnoxious or offensive, within reason, i think it's dandy. And the same applies to rock, techno, whatever. Mix it up, keep it fun.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

^^I agree- whats so bad about mixing it up?
i guess i've encounterd plenty of girls who would rather play rock music than crappy hip hop selections..... i'm just simply stating that i would love it if there were more rocker clubs around..... some people just simply do not like r&b and rap......nor do they wish to receive dances from someone when that type of music is playing.....
I'm all for the girls who dance to rock, the problem is there are so few of them. When I worked at FILMORES in Toronto, there was a time the club wouldn't allow any rap or hip-hop, it was all rock. The hip-hop creeped in because the dancers brought their own music, and the DJs didn't have the cahonies to say no. Now, since the girls who are dancing listen to R&B & Hip-hop, that's what they bring in and dance to. The music the club has collects dust on the shelf or is only played in-between sets. Kinda sucks though since they have back to back sets most times.![]()
If you ask me though, I say any dancer who can do a good rock set will definitly stand out from the crowd and score the customers with the green who are a bit older, and not just the young ones.![]()

Here in my neck of the woods, playing hip hop or rap gets the customers complaining regardless of what the dancer likes. It's a blue collar area. We do try to keep it mixed up, but if they are tipping, I dance to what they want to hear.

as much as i am an adamant rock fan... i can understand the need for variety... as much for the customers as the dancers... if hip hop inspired me i would feel boxed in and like a zombie dancing to rap... and currently i feel vice versa... why take one of the few fun aspects out of the job for some girls?
