    Default question about extensions

I've had a weave ( hair sewn in. ) and i HATED what it did to my scalp and it was actually very uncomfortable.

I would like to get extensions instead, Im at shoulder length and i like my hair like this but im bored with it and would like extensions for a bit

problem is i have naturally curly/ wavy thick hair.

Most hair i've seen is either a crimped looked or straight...no in betweens... do salons "perm" or make them match up or is it up to you to deal with it on a daily ?

I usually wear my hair straight but with a glued in extension im not sure how safe it would be to use a straightening iron all over.

In philly there are hair stores that sell hair thats already loosely curled, tight curled, wavey, deep wave etc. They also sell hair in ALL different textures&colors! European,Indian Silky etc.
Also glue is SOOO terrible for your hair. The sew-in is much better than that glue. If you must get glue I'd only keep it in for about 2 weeks(special event). What did the sew-in do to your scalp? It's always uncomfortable the first time around you'll get used to it. I Love sew-ins they are the best for me. My hair grows so much from them. Hope you find something that works for you

Okay so my hair experience with the sew in

I use to work at this club in vegas and i chopped all my hair off not bad but i was over having long hair

i walked in and they FLIPPED. sent me literally to this girl that does weaves.

She did it next to nothing. i went and bought the hair which imo was cheap ..human etc.

MY GOD the cornrows caused me to cry and im not tender headed.

I was sitting next to this lil 5 year old who was getting her braids redone and she was looking at me like i was insane.

    i felt retarded.

it was too tight ..headaches from hell

and when i went to remove it ..MY GOD. my scalp was flakey ..itchy and there were blisters or zits lol one or the other.

i wouldnt keep them very long

how much is glue in usually

My friend got glued in extensions. They only lasted her about a couple weeks also. I've heard that the more you wash your hair with the glued in ones the shorter amount of time they'll stay on. My friend used a curling iron with the glued in extensions in but I'm not sure whether the curling iron actually got next to the glue though.

    hi there

i have extentions and they are semi wavey.. you can get all types of different hair so you would be able to get one thats close your natural hair for sure..

you can straighten them as long as you get real hair and not the man made type.. the real hair ones you can do anything with even colour ..

make sure you shop around tho so you get what you want

Have you thought about spending a little more and trying the fusion extensions? There's several girls in my club and I never knew they had extensions until the told me, it looks awesome and they never worry about thier tracks showing. This type of extension (when adding human hair) also seems more durable to heat styling.

i just took out soome glued in extentions, and they treated me great. as long as you baby them and use glue remover when your removing them, youll have no problems.

Tart from my exprience with glued in weaves the salon usually charge almost half of what they charge for sewn-in. It's alot less work! If you decide to do a sew-in again ALWAYS spray your scalp with some sort of oil to ease the pain! I like biosilk and organic root stimulator(olive oil),after the stylist braids your hair ask them to go through your parts with carrot oil or olive oil. With the tention from the braids and your scalp being dry that's tramatic!!!! Also take a pain reliever before you get it done!

Tart, you can go to my hair dresser. She is a master stylist and can do all types of hair. She doesn't even do "braided sew in weaves"...Check her out! Her prices are reasonable, and hey, I'm only in Cincy so it's not that far a drive for you. PM me, and I'll give you my name so that you can get a discount.

Chocolate, you have to remember that Tart, is white. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm just going off the avatar pic) Caucasian hairtypes are alot more oily than African-American hairtypes. We usually shampoo our scalps every 1-2 weeks, while Caucasian shampoo more often. The reason for this is because their scalps produce more natural oils than us. Tart getting a glued in weave would be nothing short of a mess. Yuck, I would hate to see how that would turn out!

Anyway, check out my hairstylist www.theweavemaster.com she does EXCELLENT hair! She has been around the world, and I HIGHLY recommend her. Getting a weave from her will last you about 3-4 months (on caucasian type hair) so trust me, she is the shiznit

    cinnomonkisses:

all you have to do is use a shampoo for oily hair, that keeps the oil out of your hair to a minimum. mine looked fine for a month and a half.

    Kristina Lee,

Did you get it bonded (track of hair, then glued to scalp) or did you get a Fusion weave? Where they use a hot glue type thing, and attach it to your hair?

Yes Im white ( big shocker there lol )

The weave was a mess. Never again. It was too heavy, the damn braids about destroyed my scalp and the tension was so incredibly bad that vicodin wasn't working and i took and cut around on the babyhairs lol so yah... that will NOT be going on again anytime soon.

I think I'm only about 3 hours at the most from cincy. I live about an hour north from where I work ( I'm closer to chicago. ) But it's worth driving to if it means Im getting my money's worth.

The fusion sounds like my best bet. Because my hair isn't soft like normal Caucasian hair , its actually very coarse without a ton of products on it and its curly/wavy. So i have to use my straightener on it . The straighener I use is a hot tools , and I have to crank that sucker up to the highest to even get it to straighten my normal hair as it is. So whatever I get has to withstand that.

I will pm for her #. Thanks for all your help!!

Geez after reading your experience Im more nervous to get my sewn in weave. The hairsylist just told me to maitenance it properly and care for my scalp while they are in and I should do fine. I hope my experience isnt like yours.

i have done a few friends and my own glued-in tracks for a while. here is the thing. if you have nice thick hair you should be fine with them. i have extremely thin hair and after the last time i did them on myself i decided that its not good for me. if you have enough hair then you wont miss the tiny bit that you might pull out when you remove the tracks. as long as you take the time and remove them correctly with the remover you wont damage your hair much. putting them in is a snap and takes verry little time. removing them takes a little longer . use the lotion remover to get the tracks out and the oil remover to get the bits of glue out of your hair after that. and after you get done with all that then you need to make sure you wash your hair well to get all the oil out, which may leave it dry, then you need a deep condtioner.
    oh also i am white.
if you can afford it i would say go for the fused ones. if you just want it to be temporary though the glued ones are good, they can last about 2 weeks if you take care of them. i washed mine pretty much every day.
they are much less bulky than the sewn ins.
the fused ones though, are the cadillac of extensions and last the longest, with the least damage. or thats what i have read, and from seeing ppl with them i agree. i have never had them myself though, not yet. but i plan to do them soon, either cinderella or great lengths, when i start working in a salon in the next few months.
good luck! update and let us know how it goes!

FYI, www.Glamourhair.com , sells amazing hair by the bulk, for weaving braiding or fusing. Because no matter what technique you get, if the hair is nasty, then you're hair will be a mess! seriously, they're hair is fantastic. you buy the hair then go to the salon. and the hair isn't that expensive. Whatever you do ladies, do not, do not, do not buy the cheap hair from a beauty supply store with the little Korean man behind the counter. as soon as that hair gets wet, its a rat nest that cannot be tamed! trust me, i know. no offense to little Korean men, but man oh man does their hair tangle!

    Hi
I suggest Remy hair from India. It is so beautiful. It can last up to a year and be reused. Simple the best for darker hair types. Stay away from ASIAN hair, it will look like a bad wig after awhile.
If you lived closer to Baltimore I could do it for you as I have a HAir Extension Studio.

With a weave, i think they have their time and place...but for caucasian hair it is hard to look natural. Fusion Bonds are great, they dont break the bank and if done correctly they will look like your own hair. Big WOW factor. Try and find someone who isn't just a hair stylist who offers hair extensions, but find somone who loves their job and has lots of clients.

    Hope this helps.

noooooooooo.....Don't use that bonding glue, it's okay if it's for a special event, but day to day wear, it destroys the hair fiber. And it the glue is placed on the scalp, it can cause severe hair loss.Best bet is a sew in or clip in weave,(the hair tracks have little clips) sewn onto them so you can take them down and reapply every day if you want.

OK, I know what the metal clips look like because Katrine has them, but what's the difference between fusing and bonding? And which does less damage?

I havn't had the clips in a while girl. Great lengths look and feel like a rice grain, clear, at the attachment. Its almost perfect, but they can be felt if someone grabs the back of the head, as my customers often try to do.

I went today and talked to a girl that does fusion extensions the hair is ordered from Remy. And it's 200 deposit and 250 to do it.

I have really thick hair and only need it for length and change

the price is steap to say the least. So im going to hold off a month since I have a trip to LA to sit and do nothing on my list first. Priorites

They don't hurt at all. Sleep with your hair in a crunchy, tied low on the neck, it really helps protect it.
