Default Girl Murdered: Met Killer On MySpace

Be safe on that thing.. And on the web in general.

Investigators say that they have identified the body of Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Taylor Marie Behl, who had been missing for a month.

Behl, 17, left her dorm Sept. 5 with her mobile phone, a small amount of cash, a student ID and her car keys, telling her roommate she would be back in a few hours. The teen's car was found two weeks later – its license plates had been replaced with Ohio plates that were stolen several weeks earlier.

A task force investigating Behl's disappearance found the body buried off a dirt path in Virginia's rural Mathews County on Wednesday. Dental records were used for identification. The cause of death has yet to be determined, the Associated Press reports.

Earlier Thursday, before the identity was confirmed, Behl's mother, Janet Pelasara, addressed reporters and said: "I'm sure you can imagine the shock and horror I feel knowing that the body found is most likely my baby's."

Richmond Police Chief Rodney Monroe said the area where Behl's body was found was searched after police examined photos on the Web site of an amateur photographer who was one of the last people to see Behl alive.

Ben Fawley – who had a romantic relationship with the teen, his attorney, Chris Collins, has said – has not been charged in the Behl case, but he was questioned by police regarding her disappearance and classified as a person of interest at one point during the investigation. Detectives seized more than 70 items from Fawley's home, including a box of bones, a machete and part of a box spring bearing a reddish-brown stain, according to a search warrant.

Fawley, 38, was arraigned last week on 16 counts of possession of child pornography and is being held without bond. A telephone message left for his attorney was not returned.

Check out her My Space profile, which is still up and all the comments her friends have been leaving her from the day she disappeared up until today.

Taylor Behl,a student from Virginia, has been found murdered. Her body turned up yesterday in a shallow grave and was confirmed to be that of Taylor Behl. The prime suspect, Ben Fawley claims to be an amateur photographer and is being held by authorities.

That's SO SAD! I went there and almost cried. It's very sad. So one of her "friends" could be the killer???????????????????????????????????????????? ?
    That's just fucked up.

It's definitely sad. I'd like to add that after searching for news stories that speculate that the killer was someone she met on MySpace, I came up with nothing. I'm sure it's a thought, but from what I've read, she knew him prior to MySpace. He is supposedly an amateur photographer.

Still better safe than sorry though. Be careful on MySpace.

Behl had 92 people listed as her friends at MySpace.com, a networking Web site with more than 31 million users, many as young as 14. Among them was Ben Fawley, a 38-year-old photographer with whom she had a romantic relationship. Fawley, one of the last people to see Behl, was arrested last week on charges of possession of child pornography, and his apartment has been searched.

No one has been charged in Behl's disappearance.

In a blog entry dated 6:57 a.m. April 8, not long after she met Fawley for the first time at his apartment near the downtown VCU campus, Behl asked that people post their memories of her, anything "good or bad. Just so long as it happened."

Fawley, using the screen name Skulz67, was the first to respond: "This very attractive girl climbed up into my bunk 407 (the address of his apartment), the last girl to do so before the move. . . . "

Behl wrote back: "well I was curious."

    Skulz67: " . . . so was I . . . fact I still am . . . "

While those investigating Behl's disappearance would not comment specifically about her case, they said they have pored over her journal entries.

But just like information gathered in more traditional ways, many clues found online lead nowhere.

"Lots of stuff that is posted are just ramblings and end up meaning nothing," said Lt. Michael Pavlick, commander of the intelligence unit for the D.C. police. "But these are real diaries. . . . You can really learn so much."

    So sad !

Stories like these remind me why I never met anyone off the net.

You never know for sure who someone is no matter how many photos or email/IM/posts you exchange with someone.

she was 17 and going out and dating a near 40 year old. it was on dateline tonite.

if your stupid enough to hang out with random 40 year old men when your 17, your sort of asking for it.

    did she deserve it? no

but a little common sense goes a long way.

if you would like to see more detailed info including the killers lj go visit ljdrama.org

btw her lj name was jailbait spelled backwards. still feel sorry for her?

yeah, i do feel sorry for her. it seems that she had a lot of things in her life that fucked her up that would make her seek out this sort of unhealthy relationship, things that she probably had no control over. it doesn't matter how "stupid" or "asking for it" a teenage girl acts....nobody deserves to die. many of us who have led relatively healthy lives (and many of us who haven't) would not act in such a way as she did, but who are we to judge. lets not excuse the killer....

Eh.. It doesn't surprise me. But, it doesn't make me any less sorry for her, or her family. It's not like she ASKED for it. Sure, she put herself in the situation.. But, it's not like she was there saying "Hey, wanna murder me?"

I read about it on Myspace, and i did visit her site...which is kinda strange feeling now....Gosh i wish they would take it down...

But the age thing...Didn't she think he was a photographer...i mean that would make sense.

That's all the news that's been around here in Richmond. It's doubly disturbing when it happens in your own back yard. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

While the online blogs and myspace give some info nobody will ever know what she was thinking with the decisions she made. I'm sure it's flattering to a 17 year old to have a 38 year old man giving you attention and I know when I was 17 I didn't make the wisest decisions about guys.

Now that she has been found I hope her killer or killers will be brought to justice and her family will get the closure and peace that they deserve.

Imagine being the roommate of the guy that is the prime suspect (the one who had the relationship with the girl). He's been in jail since around the 17th of September... That's before the guy who they think killed her! Yikes, he's been sitting in the second worst jail on the East coast, and what if he had nothing to do with it!
In Richmond, we've been dealing with this since the day she went mising, it hasn't been fun since I know a ton of VCU students and when she first went missing that's all we knew about her.
At first it seemed like a random abduction of pretty girl, but now it seems like she knew the guy, if not had a relationship with him and although it is miserable situation, atleast it isn't a prey upon unsuspecting women.
It really is awful when someone is murdered, no one has the right to take someone else's life (unless they actually killed a loved one right in front of you, for seemingly no reason..)<--own personal belief.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

My first guy friend was way older than me. I was in a bad home situation and didn't really care much about what I was doing.
She got charmed by a manipulative crazy turd. This waste of space that allegedly killed her is bipolar.
What stinks is that guy had a couple kids already- both girls. I feel sorry for them too.
