Just curious to find out if this is common practice or not. My girlfriend told me the club she works at in ATL didn't ask her for anything but her DL. I'm just funny about giving out my social because a friend of mine just got her identity stolen!

They want to see your DL to show proof of age anywhere. As far as a SS card..no Ive never had to show one.

Most places all you have to do is show your ID (license or walker's), Some places make a copy of it and some don't. Never had to show my SS card..
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
I have not been asked for an s.s. #.
You know, at some of the topless clubs I've worked at, they've asked for a copy of your ID.... But specifically a copy not only for age but for the SS number. Some club owners that run multiple clubs (Say, a nude club and a topless and a regular) will file taxes on every girl and every drink she sells... At least here in Columbus anyway. I don't know if it's required or not, I assume it's just a write off, but.. yeah.
I've never been asked to show my social security card, but on most applications for work, it asks for your ss #. I always leave that space blank.
I've had to show, and have SS card copied at some places. You definately need it in Vegas to get your sheriff's card, and they wouldn't even let me in the door at Hustler San Fran without me showing that I had it for them to copy. So, 50/50 they ask.

If you are not comfortable with showing your SS#, you may want to consider starting a "business" and using the EIN to give for paying taxes. I'm not too sure how this would work, but you could always ask Melonie in Dollar Den...or Monty!
Many places are starting to require a copy unless it is printed on your DL. As a matter of fact, most clubs will take a photo and put that in your file. It's understandable to worry about identity theft, but you can get your info stolen from places you least expect. The Michelle Brown story is a perfect example. Here's a link to some great info about this. http://www.lifetimetv.com/movies/ori...titytheft.html
So if you dont give the club your real SS# then they cant file taxes on you , even if they have a copy of your ID??
The IRS requires a SS#. If you do not have a SS# you cannot file taxes or get credit.
If you didn't give your club a SS#, there is no way that they can pay taxes (or file tax forms) with the IRS on your behalf...unless there is something I've misunderstood...it just isn't done that way.
I have been asked for my SS# on the IC contract at most of the larger upscale clubs in which I have worked .
At the smaller clubs I was usually just asked for ID.
Thanks VG for info. When my club hired me they got a copy of my social, so now I feel better prepared for tax season.

This is an outgrowth of two factors ... the Patriot Act, which requires employers to verify the citizenship of potential employees (which basically requires either a SS# or a US passport), and the Section 2257 law which basically requires that any business which posts pictures of girls on the internet (- i.e. club website -) must maintain a file of the girls' personal information. Virtually all 'upscale' and 'corporate' clubs will therefore require that a SS# be given.
As to W2 or 1099 dancer income reporting to the IRS, yes either of these requires that the 'employer' know the dancer's SS# in order to file the paperwork.
Certainly there are some smaller clubs out there which will not ask for a dancer's SS#, or even verify her identity. These clubs are certainly not going to make W2 or 1099 dancer income reports. However, because the IRS is increasing its 'automatic reporting' requirements on the expenditure side, the lack of a W2 or 1099 automatic income reports and the choice to not file/underreport tax returns is no guarantee that the IRS won't have their attention attracted via a car / home title registration automatic report to the IRS, a bank / investment / broker's automatic interest income report to the IRS etc.

There is an alternative to the Social Security #. It is called a 'Tax-Payer ID Number', and it's issued by the IRS.
People who have a legitimate right to work / run a business in America, but who were not born in the country and therefor don't have a SS#, can use the Tax Payer ID #. It has the same # of digits as the SS#.
Like for example in my case, my father is American and my mother Canadian. Since my parent (father) is American, I have all the rights of citizenship. But, since I spent so many years in Canada, I never really 'legitimated' myself in the States by getting a SS#. The IRS wants me to pay taxes on my US bank accounts though, so they gave me a Tax Payer ID as an 'intern' solution (10 years ago, lol!!).
My club requires your SSN everytime you sign in for your shift, thats how they look you up. I can even get a recipet of what i pay in house fee's at that time too and it prints my SSN on it,
In SAT and in Austin, I was required to bring in a SS card, but in Dallas, no card was necessary.

All clubs do not require it. Some just ask for your ID and have you write down your ss# on the application.
Others have no application at all, especially some small clubs.
