    Zoloft

I've just started taking zoloft for depression, and i'd really like to hear from anyone else who's tried it.

I keep having intense yawning fits and jaw-clenching... It's very strange!

Has anyone here used Zoloft, what did you think of it? Side effects?

Prozac kept me up all night, I never slept and had constant headaches so they stuck me on Zoloft. Zoloft caused drowsiness. I was basically sleeping all the time or in a state of blah. I was a half-minded vegetable a lot of the time. Then they stuck me on Paxil, which worked better for me than the first two. This was all in the course of 3 years and I'm off all anti-depressants now. See if the symptoms persist..if after 3 months and you're still getting them, I would ask to switch meds.

for me.. zoloft made me even MORE suicidal than id been before. i was on clonazapam at the same time to help with increased anxiety... but.. i just .. would freak out and the only way i could calm myself was by cutting.. so i stopped the zoloft without consulting a doc.. and stayed on the clonazapam for another week.. upped the dose by half (on my own.. ) and was fine after a week or so. now im terrified to let them put me on any more psych meds.

.. sorry if that scares you.. just make sure to report any strange feelings to your doc so the meds can be adjusted if needed. and give it a month or so to even out. i didnt.. cuz i just couldnt handle the first 2 weeks...

I have taken Zoloft (ha I actually should still be taking it) and my girlfriend tells me that there is an instant difference when I take it. I don't know..I kinda agree with Calieen, I turned into a vegetable. I'll turn really cool and calm.

How many mg's are you taking...At first I was taking 50mgs and that was cool..then my body got used to it, so it wasn't working as well. My doc then put me on 100mgs. But taking that high of a dose, I got stomach aches.

I'm on 100 mg of Zoloft. My OB/GYN put me on it in my 7 month of pregnancy because I had SEVERE 3rd trimester depression and he was concerned about postpartum depression. Sssh, don't tell Tom Cruise!

Anyway, I am still on it, now 4 months after giving birth. I am actually SCARED to stop taking it because it has made such a difference in the way I feel. The first 2 weeks of taking it were the hardest. I felt dizzy, numb, fatigue, buzzed, and just all over weird, not to mention anxiety and guilt for taking it while preggers. That all passed and I started feeling better. Most improved was my tension and sleep problems. Zoloft is often prescribed for anxiety too in lieu of Xanax.

The only sexual side effect I have had from Zoloft is dryness, but nothing a bottle of Astroglide can't cure! In fact, I'm a little hornier now because I feel so much better about myself.

It's hard to say if it had any effect on my weight since I was preggers when I started taking it. I do know that I have lost all of my pregnancy weight (with the exception of making up for lost muscle tone) and my appetite is actually less than it was prior to pregnancy. I hardly ever crave sweets anymore and I used to have serious chocolate binges.

For me it's been great! MY doc says I'll stay on it for a total of about 1 year. He said this is how long it takes for your brain's Seratonin levels to even out production.

I had the yawning and jaw clenching, and that was it. It did nothing else for me.

it makes me horribly horribly tired, but i cant sleep... it sucks... also, if i take it, a couple hours later i have an intense need for a cigarette... i can go for days without a smoke, but if i take it, i need one as soon as it kicks in...

also, my skin is soooooooooo much more horrible after taking it

I took Zoloft when I was about 14. It made me intensely social- like, way too much. I talked to everyone and was so over-friendly. I'd hang out with random people I met on the bus and stuff like that. It made me feel drugged, pretty much, and not like myself.

Jaw clenching doesn't sound good, but it makes sense, as that's a common side effect when your synapses are bathed in too much seratonin (like on E). Maybe your dose is too high? Or maybe you're still getting used to it. You won't know if it works for you for a couple of months.

I just got off it about a year ago my Doc put me on Effexor I really hated both of them my job performance slipped a bit I think it made me drowsy - I quit my job and got off all my depression meds I feel better I live with the dep - so some days are not good - thats ok I can handle it . I kind of replaced the Meds with a drink at night and just try and relax a bit - which at times I drink waaaay toooo much but so be it - its the way I cope and it does work for me . The side effects when I got off were terrible for about a month but it finally ended . I find that having someone to talk to when you are down is the best medicine - but this is what works for me and by no means would it work for any others .

    Thanks girls

I've only been on them for 2 weeks, and i know it takes a while for things to settle down.
I'm only on 50mg (i was really reluctant to take anything in the first place). Seems to be working, i guess... i'm not bursting into tears in the supermarket/post office/starbucks anymore

Scarlett - The jaw-clenching and yawning is just like taking E - that's so funny! lol

I was on Zoloft for a few years. It didn't really help me all that much AND I gained around 15 pounds! My doctors says that when she puts someone on Zoloft the average weight gain is around 30 pounds. When she told me that I immediatly switched over to wellbutrin (one of the main side effects is weight loss) and am pretty happy with it. I havn't had any serious side effects other then my skin breaking out more than usual. And my memory has gotten really bad. I forget things almost immeditely.
When I first started taking it I felt reallly lethargic and had no appetite whatsoever. It also made me feel a bit ill. But after 2 weeks I started noticing a huge difference- It helped my anxiety so much. Plus, I wasn't laying in bed crying anymore. It helped me get back on my feet. If you havn't tried wellbutrin you may want to give it a try.

I took zoloft after a prolonged case of depression and it was the best thing in the world for me. When we first started we did have to test around a little to find the right dosage and time of day for me to take it. It kept me awake so I had to take it when I got up instead of in the evening.

Once we found the right dose, it made a world of difference. It was like coming out of a fog. I was able to rationalize again and actually be content. I was on it for about 8 month with therapy and then I decided to take myself off of it. The abrubt stop was the worst thing for me. After a little while I went right back to the depression again.
I went back on and this time stepped down my medication and I have been great ever since. I've been off of it for about 4 or 5 years.

On Zoloft I also gained weight, about 25 lbs. It also killed my sex drive. I switched to welbutrin as well. I lost the weight and for me, it really works.

I think these drugs work differently on different people Give a try for a while, it may work great for you. If not, don't be afraid to change.

i was on it and i slept 18 hours a day. there's no need to wait three months for side effects to disappear- they usually vanish after the first two weeks. if you still have them after a month, talk to your doc.
