Angry Just watched a laptop theft take place

So I'm sitting outside my favorite neighborhood cafe this afternoon, when I notice two shifty gangsta-wannabe teenagers pacing pack and forth. 10 minutes later, shouting and a commotion. One runs out with the other in pursuit carrying a laptop he's ripped off the table of a customer (it's a WiFi cafe). The customer gives chase, but they outrun him. The police come, but it's too late.

This is a "nice" neighborhood, supposedly...I bring my tweeny weeny Sony laptop here all the time. I'm DEFINITELY investing in some kind of stolen laptop tracing recovery software now. Fucking little hoodrat shits

Ugh! That's not cool! If they took mine, though, they wouldn't be getting away with much (it's 6 years old and is having some issues). I'd keep a good grip on your lappy, though.

Ugh.. Seems like that shit's going around. Dan almost got to slice up a gangsta wannabe last night after I refused to give him a cigarette. I told him to get his stupid ass a job. He threw a hissy fit and started getting all loud. Dan heard him, got up, and came outside. They exchanged words.. The kid kept throwing up his arms like he was having an epileptic fit and saying "Wanna go? What's up?". Dan just informed him that he wasn't worth it, and the kid walked his ass back on into his house. Yeah, by the way, they're neighbors across the street.

Guess he thought we'd be scared of his stupid ass. Wrong! Takes quite a bit to scare us. We're not from around here.

Rhia, you made me think of something just now. The other night I had to go get something out of my car. I saw someone standing next to my car, and I got pissed of course. I'm walking toward him getting ready to say something about getting away from my car, and then he starts walking toward me.

By this time I figure out that the guy is MUCH bigger than I am, he's dressed from head to toe in black (including his hair, which was styled really strange), and he's wearing more make-up than eye am (black eyeliner and the works).

So I'm thinking, "Now wait, who the hell is this guy?" I've seen the one goth girl that lives over here, but I'd never seen the guy- so then I was thinking, "Oh great, now what did I get myself into?"

As he walks over by me, though, he nods and says, "Hey..." I managed to squeak out a pathetic, "Hi" before he walked by me. He's one of the only people at our apartment that has ever acknowleged me in a friendly way BEFORE I could (because I say hello to almost everyone).

Just thought that was funny, and wanted to throw it in. By the way, though- you know what someone stole from my porch? A stupid little garden rock that says "peace." WTF? I bought it from the dollar store for $1! I had WAY cooler stuff out there than that (like my little bobblehead turtle thing), and THAT'S what they picked?! So I just brought everything in for now.

Given what I have seen at the anti-war demonstrations, I am not surprised your "peace" rock got stolen.

What's funny is I lived in NYC for years and years, and never saw any crime take place. Since I moved to the West Coast, this is the third incident I've been party to

That's because your living under the laws of the "9th circus court," the OJ "If the glove doesn't fit" Simpson jury, as well as the Robert "I left my gun at the restaurant table" Blake jury. Let's not forget the "Michael Jackson doesn't sleep with little boys" argument.

    Add in this:

Here, in the home of the free, the land of the brave, and suchlike prattle, I encounter this: "An 11-year-old girl who threw a stone at a group of boys pelting her with water balloons is being prosecuted on serious assault charges in California. Maribel Cuevas was arrested in April in a police operation which involved three police cars and a helicopter."

Don't get me started on the "entitlement mentality" on the West Coast. It is bankrupting the place.

I use to live in California and I don' t think I will ever again. It isn't like the brochure.

Is there such a thing? I was warned about that just today. I use my laptop on the subway, it (stupidly) has never even crossed my mind that someone would steal it. I'd totally invest in tracing software. Or maybe just theft insurance...

You can buy security cables that lock your laptop to a table leg, your wrist, etc. I would love to see a guy try to make a break for it with your laptop, only to be stopped at about 8 inches with the thing locked to the table.

About stupid things being stolen - I parked my car one day in San Francisco only to come out and see that my yellow ribbon magnet "support the troops" was stolen off my car...

My neighbors steal firewood and watermelons off the porch. We found a junkie on the doorstoop one morning, begging for water. Most people I know have had their car broken into at least once.
I can't wait to leave California.

That's because your living under the laws of the "9th circus court,"
That's all you really need to say about California.

The 9th Circuit Court has made its name by systematically destroying anything that was ever good about California.

so far i've been pretty lucky. my house was broken into a few months ago and all they took was money. yes it was ALOT of money and it definately messed up my bills, but it could've been worse.
My jewerly was left alone and they didn't even bother taking any of our electronics! We have a 65in. tv(it would be hard to move) but i had a laptop and bose speakers sitting out on the table, and we had other expensive things just out in plain sight.

The dumbest thing i've even had stolen was one of those lil antenna ball things off of my car
