I'm an ATL dancer. The permit is 350, but you can make that back in one night easy. I was allowed to work without one until I could pay it, within a week. Sometimes the house mom will collect money from a new girl to put it towards their permit.

I'm looking for someone to check the clubs out with. Anyone interested?

If not- are any of these clubs ok with a woman going in by herself?

I'm a dancer at the Pink Pony.... it's a Dekalb county permit which costs $250.... you can also keep your permit and use it in ALL Dekalb county clubs even if you happen to leave the club you were originally working at when you applied for the permit (Oasis is also in Dekalb...). Its a benefit because in Fulton County (Atlanta) the permit is $350 and you must get a new permit everytime you go to a different club, even though it may still be in Fulton County (ex. The Cheetah...). Dekalb issues a county wide permit for the year which can be used at any club in the county, but Fulton issues a permit PER each CLUB for the year so with each new club in Fulton you might switch to, you must get a new permit for the new club which means shelling out the money for the permit...!

Cinnamonkisses: Yeah, it's $350 per permit per each club you move to in Fulton County (City of Atlanta). It's also a two day process to acquire your permit in Fulton County. It works like this: 1) the first day you go to the permit office and pay $50 in a money order to the county and fill out paper work .... they then run a background check and criminal history check on you and you don't get the results until the next day 2) On the next day you return to the permit office and as long as they do not find anything that they do not allow on your criminal background check, you pay the other $300 of the permit fee and take your permit picture and then are given your Fulton County Permit
In Dekalb County, the permit process takes only one day (the same day you go you can get your permit as long as you leave time between when you get there and when the office closes like an hour or so...) and you simply pay all of the $200 permit fee the same day (with a money order, no checks and no cash) and leave with your permit after they take your picture and run all your personal information. It's a much quicker and easier process to get your permit in Dekalb, but Fulton isn't too bad as long as you go during the week early in the day (Friday is usually busy, so try to go mon.-wed.) and be extra polite to the permit officials at any place you go to because believe me it really goes a long ways!!! Also be sure to get your money order to pay the permit fees in either county before you go to the actual permit office because they do not take cash or check.

Clubs in Dekalb county I know: The Pink Pony, Oasis, Follies, and I know there are a few other predominately "black clubs" like Jazzy T's, Pin-Ups, and a few more I can't think of offhand......
Clubs in Fulton County I would recommend: Pretty much just The Cheetah or The Masters....

Hope that helps all you atlanta girlys!!!

So then, what if you get a permit and you dont' make good money there. Either you're stuck or you shell out more money..Dam, so they have like no free trial period

That's a pretty heartless rule. People should vote that down. Cabbies don't need a new permit from block to block. Hairdressers don't need a new license from shop to shop. That's pretty greedy, to me.

In Fulton County (which includes Atlanta) this license rule and how it actually works creates a barrier to entry for dancers not living in the local area. If you like to travel from club to club you can work in Fulton county, but you have to be prepared to risk all of your $350.

Dancers think that this actually gives them a bit more job security as not just any dancer on the traveling circuit can show up and work. ALso dancers think twice about disobeying the rules, because if there is a crackdown they can lose their license, and not get a new one
and therefore earn no money for awhile.

From a government standpoint the law works here. All bars are full nude, full bar and open until 4 a.m., and many open at 11:30 a.m. for the early shift. On the other hand there will not be any changes in the Atlanta rules so the clubs can't adapt.

Most guys would welcome the full nude full bar as that is a combination not available in many markets.

Fulton County is famous for being greedy (and squandering the money it collects).

You got that right. That's how a strip club's supposed to be.

Very smart way of looking at it.

Hope you get this in time--I know you posted this over 6 months ago, but I wanted to tell you what I experienced and hope you take it into conideration. I'm a former ATL dancer--danced at Cheetah Lounge on Spring Street for 2.5 years, quit in Sept 2004. My honest, been-there-done-that advice: DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH THE ATL!!!! There are 35 clubs in Atlanta, as opposed to 5 in Nashville, 5 in Myrtle Beach, 4 in NYC, etc. There are simply too many clubs and too many dancers trying to make money off of a somewhat small pool of business travelers. ATL's gov't has made a lot of bad business decisions in the last few years, and the convention traffice has been cut by 50% or more. Atlanta used to host SuperComm, which was 200,000 dorky-but-rich computer guys every February. It's now in Chicago--lucky Chi-town dancers.

The permits, too, are outrageous. $350 per permit, per club that you work, and it takes 2 days to process the permit. ATL tries to come off as a "good morals" town, but it's full of b.s. The people in City Hall East (where dancer permits are done) will treat you as rudely as they possibly can, as they assume that if you're a dancer, you must be among the nastiest of people. It used to make me sick to my stomach to have to go and renew my permit. Oh--and they'll arrest you on the spot for even an outstanding parking ticket. ATL wants to pretend that it's all nice and "Chreeestian" (you know those kinds of folks!), but they're still mighty interested in HOW you "pop yo pussy" on stage, and where, and why. Don't shave too much hair off, or you'll go to jail. Don't bend over onstage w/o your bottoms...or you go to jail. Don't TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES (really, I'm serious) or you go to jail. It's stupid as hell.

No lap dances in ATL--only table dances with NO CONTACT strictly enforced--and most clubs make dancers only charge $10/dance. In a place where dances are $20+, you can make up for a crappy night by dancing your ass off. In ATL, you'll have to do 30 dances or more to go home with anything decent. And honey, I've had MANY 30-dance nights...I have the feet to prove it!

The only way to really make money in ATL is private rooms. Cheetah is a rather upscale club, and VIPs are $250/hr. Much the same in other clubs. However, you're still very, very carefully watched in VIP as well. You can't even give a lap dance in there--the bouncer, mgr, or housemom will be in there and all over you if you try giving your customer ANY special treatment (and I'm NOT talking blowjobs here--just sitting in laps, backrubs--the things you try to do NOT to have the guy ask you to the motel room after work). I knew one incredibly gorgeous dancer, who'd been in a Playboy Special Edition, who quit to go into the ATL escorting biz. She said she was sick to death of being asked for hand jobs, blow jobs, etc. while she was DANCING and not TRICKING, so she figured if she were an escort she could at least be honest about what she was doing. Can you imagine? A Playboy Girl, and she couldn't make money dancing. WTF?

My advice is to go ANYWHERE but Atlanta. I hate to say it, but that's been my experience. I got my Ph.D. and got a job as a college professor; that's why I got out of the biz--that and I was about to go crazy. The $$$$ isn't there in Atlanta anymore. Hopefully it's better in other cities. I don't make a lot of $$$ now, but it's steady work.

I love you all, my dancing sisters. Shake that moneymaker! Wish I were still out there with ya.

Hi everyone! I am glad to of found this thread still circulating ~ I am seriously considering returning to The Cheetah after three years of not dancing. The main thing is that I want to do it sober and master the sales aspect of it. For me, The Cheetah is the only place I can consider ~ it's clean, classy, and I hope, still has some good clientle. Is there anyone currently working there or wanting to that has time for a chat?

The Cheetah Is So Overrated, I Actually Just Got Fired From There Three Months Ago, Because A Customer Touched Me. If You Kiss Ass Tremondously To The Uppity Staff They Tend To Overlook Things. Cheetah Is Perceived As The Classiest Club In The City, To My Knowledge It Is The Biggest Whorehouse In The City, Because They Do More Outside The Club To Maintain A Certin Lifestyle. I'm curious, why do you type with the first letter as a capital Someone else here recently was doing the same thing.

Anywho, that sucks that you got fired for letting a customer touch you. Where was he touching you? And for how long? I think that's alot for a club to take such a serious action against you. Was this your first time being reprimanded or what??

I'm woefully ignorant on the state of clubs in Atlanta but I do know that there are far more than 4 clubs in NYC.

Being a dancer, strictly a dancer i.e. not a prostitute or escort, you know you just don't let a customer touch you, there is no point, I already had my money upfront but sometimes horny men get out of control in V.I.P. I had never been involved in any incident of the sort, and what happened to me was just plain unfair. When other young ladies give blow and hand jobs, they get suspended and get warnings. I get harrassed by a drunk man and get the boot. I harbor no hard feelings toward Cheetah and if you want t work somewhere that is just pretty and upscale then that is the place for you, but if money is what motivates you I would recommend other clubs. Black girls stay away from there, I don't care how good you think you look, you will not get the earnings you deserve neither the respect from the staff and certain other girls.

There is a girl at my club who frequents ATL frm time to time. She told me she makes GREAT money there! Sorry that the experience wasn't the same for you though. You work at the Oasis?? I think there is a SW member who works there too.

uNLESS SHE WAS ONE OF THE TWO MONEY MAKING GIRLS, SHE WAS MAKING NO MONEY AT LEAST NOT COMPARABLE TO BEING BLACK IN A MORE "LIBERAL" CLUB." WE ALL KNOW DANCERS TEND TO EXAGGERATE THEIR INCOME, AND HONESTLY I DON'T SEE THE POINT. I WAS MORE APPEALING TO CHEETAH CLIENTEL THAN A LOT OF OTHER BLACK DANCERS BECAUSE I AM WELL RAVELED AND BEING BLACK FOR WHITE GUYS THE DARKER THE BETTER, AND IT WAS HARD FOR ME, THE MONEY WAS GOOD BUT NOT CONSISTENT AND NOT WORTH ALL THE BULLSHIT I ADHERED TO WITH STAFF.

That really sucks. You'd think that they would lay off on someone making money. Sorry that you had to leave your club because of shitty attitudes.
On other places on this board Atlanta is always touted as being one of the best cities for women of color. But I have been hearing differently, and not just on this site.

What is touted as being good is many times hearsay or based on outdated experiences. This business is slower everywhere, and money is not uniform for every dancer in every club.

First off, fitting in and being in good with management and the staff is important, and that can help a dancer feel comfortable to be herself and work the floor confidently.

Some dancers have a clientele established in a club and do well whereas other girls who don't do less than well.

The reason rumor has it that black girls do well in Atlanta, is that there are supposedly more educated black professionals there, but that is assuming that black girls make most of their money from black men.

The clubowners for the most part are white, you are in the South, and segregation of the races is more prevalent there.

Girls do more times than not exaggerate their earnings. And guys are more and more wanting sexual release for their money everywhere.

As African Beauty said the money was good but not consistent, that means to me that you've got to take your $50-$100 nights along with your $500 ones. CONSISTENT money is key. I'd rather make $250-$300 CONSISTENTLY with a better night in the mix, than have a $800 night followed by 5 $80 ones. I don't want my dancing career to be comparable to playing a slot machine.
