    Default Tax Questions

Are there any dancers in Portland, OR who can recommend a good accountant? I want to be 100% straight with the IRS.

Also, I don't want my family to find out about dancing. If I do file taxes with the IRS, would they ever send mail to my parent's address? I'm 21 and I suppose I could change my permanent address or something on my tax forms. My mom sometimes reads any mail that looks official. Not private letters, though.

All the IRS ever sends are blank forms, unless you are being audited or something like that. Save yourself a lot of hassle and get a PO Box. You will get W2's from employers or 1099 forms. Boxes do not cost much at the PO-- if the local branch has them available.

Although I am in the Bay Area - I was raised in Portland and still serve clients there. I know some good CPAs and tax advisors in Portland, none that specialize in dancers. If you wish, send me an email or message and we can discuss.

The IRS won't communicate in a normal sense in generic correspondence about your profession and/or occupation. However, if they need clarification they may refer to your deductions and specific form information in communication. If privacy is an issue, I recommend getting a P.O. Box that is secure and private. As an aside, I used a P.O. Box until my 30's before I purchased a house. I moved every couple of years or so, and I didn't like my credit report showing all of my old addresses and I was worried about mail that wouldn't get forwarded. The P.O. Box was a great $15/year investment for stability.
