Min. age is 18 in some clubs and 21 in others, if in doubt look for a "juice bar". I don't know about work visas for coming from Canada, so I hope someone else here can answer that for you . . . Most places I've seen hire their own dancers, but it varies by club. Some states require dancer licensing, a lot don't.

As a result of the Patriot Act law which was enacted soon after the 9/11 attacks, it is no longer 'legal' for a person who is not a citizen of the US or a permanent resident alien (i.e. has a 'green card') to be hired by any US employer without having a work visa. Prior to this new law, non-US citizens with student visas were allowed to work, and the authorities very seldom checked. Getting a work visa is not impossible, however it is not easy either ... because exotic dancers are not a profession that the US gov't wishes to encourage and there is no shortage of would-be exotic dancers who are US citizens.

Because of this, today virtually every upscale / 'corporate' club in the US is going to ask to see some US Picture Identification with a US address, and also a US Social Security card, prior to hiring a new dancer. Lots of clubs will of course hire any hot dancer without ever checking her 'paperwork' - but clubs that disregard the Patriot Act law typically have equally low respect for other laws as well ... such as prostitution and/or drugs.
