    Angry scalp infection

me thinks an infection has attacked mine scalp...and i have to wait 'til the end of november to see the dermatalogist.

so i have a question. what natural remedies can i use to get rid of this crap? i have tea tree oil. is there anything else?

i have a weeks supply of antibiotics and a perscription 'shampoo', but i don't think this stuff will knock it out in a week...

my scalp hurts...and that my friends is NOT COOL. i have a damn reputation to uphold! ~snarl..licks claws~

why do some people still have to fight to get the same opportunities that are given to others?

Does your scalp itch alot? Dandruff? Weeping of the wounds?

If it does it might be a case of seborrheic dermatitis. OTC cures can be a dandruff shampoo like T-gel which contains tar/coal to help make it stop. Make sure it stays on the scalp for at least 5 minutes before rinsing.
If those dont work go see a doctor to get a Rx for something stronger or different.

try salicylic acid... You can get a mix of it in certain zit creams. Make sure its only salicylic acid though b/c some creams have benzyol peroxide that could potentially bleach your hair.(from what i have heard)

If it is dermatitis or atopic which is what i think you have then that should work..

What does the infection look like? Is it itchy, pussing or scaling?

no flakes (not anymore anyway), just sore spots...and a few bald spots. i started washing my hair everyday with a moisterizing shampoo that i put tea tree oil in. that cleared up the flakes...but my scalp still gets these little bumps on them that scale over and are weepy sometimes.

i read online somewhere that it might be ringworm.

    well that's not good.

i will try selsun blue (sp) until i can get to the dermatologist...and get a refill on my antibi's. this is SO wrong. y'all know a sista' can't stand taking traditional meds. i feel so ill. i need a hug.

yes.. it could very well be ringworm....

Ringworm of the scalp usually begins as a small pimple that becomes larger, leaving scaly patches of temporary baldness. Infected hairs become brittle and break off easily. Yellowish crusty areas sometimes develop.

That sounds like what you have. Antibiotics i believe are prescribed for this.

use a tea made of fresh sage leaves and rinse daily. put tea tree oil on all the infected places up to three times a day. use witch hazel rinses as well, and for the boils in the process of healing, dab on some vitamin E oil.

my dad had this bad dandruff that he took care of late. turned out to be some weird skin disease that spreaded through his back and chest with white spots. started out as dandruff and got a really bad itch all over his body. i'm not sure of what the disease's name is, & i'm not saying that you may have that bc I don't know exactly what it is. just sharing info. anyway his disease can be treated, it's not contagious and the blotches can go away with tanning. but it can come back.

You can also buy T-Sal from Neutrogena, which is a 3% salicylic acid treatment for removing scalp buildup.

Just use some dandruff shampoo, that's what we use on our horses when they get ring worm, sooo much cheaper than the other stuff and works just as good.

Put down the medicated shampoo if you have bald spots, it will create more problems. You do have ringworm, and you need to get that straighten out asap! You can start by continuing to wash daily for two weeks: before you shampoo, make a watery paste of baking soda/water, apply to scalp, it will deep clean that fungus away. let sit for 20 min.Next, shampoo, rinse apply conditioner away from the scalp then rinse. afterwards apply pure tea tree oil to your entire scalp do this for two weeks then see the derm. Also, soak your brushes in a mix a bleach water until this clears up. Also give me a run down of your hair type, what products you use, how often and if you use chemicals and/ or some type of extensions. You need to figure out what you've been doing wrong to get to this point.
Please let me know how this works out, having any is infection is no fun.

Ringworm is usually treated with a topical treatment. Or for the scalp i am sure a medicated shampoo from a doctor.

Also with an infection that set it, antibiotics will help as well.

That is tough shit at times. And on the scalp. You need to keep you're scalp area very dry.

    Ringworm loves a moist area.

Hey Topaz, I know you are in a fairly large city. Why are you waiting on this particular Derm. to see you? Call around!! Let them know that this is SERIOUS and have them push you up.

If the receptionist doesn't think it's that "important" then yea she will give you an appt a month from now. Please call them back, let them know you have ring worm in your scalp, and you don't want to risk spreading it to your kids, neices, nephews etc!!!! If that doesn't help, keep your orig appt, and call some other dermatologist offices and get you an appt. I want you check out ASAP lady

Try Colloidial Silver. It is an all natural antibiotic. You can use it to cure almost anything. Its really safe. I buy it at GNC because it is in its purist form. Alot of others are mixed with all kinds of other stuff.

Right now I am giving it to my dog (putting it in his water bowl) because he has always suffered with skin problems.

Check out this website for a bunch of uses for this stuff. I am telling you it is a wonder drug!!! I swear by it.

    www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/collsilver.htm

Thye website is specified for dogs but if you read the list of uses you will see its for people too!!

If ringworm is a fungus, don't take antibiotics. You need antifungals.

The Colloidial Silver works great for ring worm... But from what she is describing it sounds more like psoriasis. Either way... I still stick with my recomendation.

wow...all this information. i must take notes. thanks everyone for your input.

as far as hair type...my hair is naturally nappy... i mean i don't have a relaxer in my hair...and the color i had in it is growing out.

where did it come from. i'm clueless there, however my youngest neice had ringworm and my oldest neice (who lives with me now) had it too. so i may have got it from her...that is if that's what this is.

anyway my scalp isn't so sore anymore, and it seems that i have no new bumps. i remembered that my mom used sulfur8 hair oil when i was a kid. so i might try that...plus my makeshift antifungal/antidandruff shampoo and conditioner and hair oil (i put tea tree oil in all three and use them everyday). i think i might need another round of anitbiotics, as it seems to be clearing some stuff up (go figure), and i'll look into some of the suggestions here.

forgot to add...i use all natural (or mostly natural) products on my skin and hair. and i don't think i'll be coloring my hair anymore for a while. i was only doing it to cover grays.

    again, thanks everyone.

If you want to color your hair you should see a professional. ESPECIALLY if you're hair is naturally nappy! It's probably damamged and you need some treatments to get it back in shape. The problem does sound like ringowrm and although you said you need a hug, you had better not hug ANYONE or they can get it, too. Sorry you are dealing with this. It's no fun. Take it easy on your scalp and don't scratch or tear the skin. All that stuff can really burn and hurt on open skin. Good luck.

Ok...if this was ringworm...here is my chids experience with it last year:

He started out with 1 little patch....hair was falling out and short at the one little spot....suddenly from Friday to Monday he had like 7 patches. If it is ringworm of the scalp, topical lotions will likely not help at all. They will prescribe Grifeovulsin (sp?) which is an anti fungal....it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months of treatment with the medication, depending on the severity of your case. Make sure to wash everything that has been in contact with your head...linens...etc...try sleeping in a shower cap at nite so as not to have to wash your pillowcase everyday.

In addition to the medication, the doctor will likely give you a prescription strength version of Selsun Blue, or he will tell you to go get Selsun Blue from the store....don't get T-Gel...its too strong and has a tendency to make the sores more weepy, which increases spreading.

Its a pain, but it is only temporary.....good luck

Sad Re: scalp infection - UPDATE

got the results from ny biopsy. i have lichen planus. it's an incurable scalp condition that destroys the hair follicals (at least that's what the nurse practitioner (sp) said). he's putting me on some type of topical steroids and tetrecycline for now...but there's really nothing that can be done to 'fix' it...just ease the symtoms.

this is NOT good people. i already have major self esteem and self image problems. THIS DOES NOT HELP THE SITUATION. sure it's not cancer and i'm not dying...but that doesn't make me feel any better. the bald spots in my head make me feel like one of the ugliest women on the face of the planet (even moreso that usual...which is bad enough). and there's a possibility that the hair won't grow back.

    anyway...that's it...bye.

That sounds like psoriasis, which may also be what's on your scalp. If so the dermatologist can recommend a medicated shampoo.

MsTopz---for sure follow up on bella622's recommendation on the colloidal silver! The link she provided leads to many other links that give wonderful information on this natural, non-toxic substance. This is not the first time I have heard wonderful things about colloidal silver. My sister swears by it--it healed her acne and psoriasis.

You have nothing to lose by giving it a try. Read up on it, then go pick up a bottle for yourself. Doctors don't always have all the answers, or the appropriate solution. And they certainly aren't usually willing to suggest a natural remedy--their agenda is to push the drugs and medications. Sickness and disease are what keep them in business, after all. And pharmaceutical companies are powerful multi-million dollar corporations.

Our bodies have a remarkable capacity to heal themselves and restore harmony, if we let them. Don't be discouraged just yet...try the colloidal silver and let us know how it goes for you.
