    Well, I had a cruise that was supposed to depart today out of Fort Lauderdale.

    Obviously not going to happen since Wilma was going though. At least the cruise was postponed to leave tomorrow instead. Cool...so I'd have an extra day to fly in. Nope!

    All the flights to Fort Lauderdale and anywhere near it were cancelled today...and they are all booked up for tomorrow morning. So I can't possibly get to my ship.

    I thought all would be okay because the Carnival website says:

    Carnival Legend from Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale) - The 8 day cruise scheduled to depart on Monday, October 24 will be changed to a 7 day cruise to San Juan, St. Maarten, Tortola and Nassau departing on Tuesday, October 25. Guests that were booked on the 8 day cruise and sail on the new 7 day cruise will receive a 15% refund of cruise fare and a $50 per person onboard credit. Guests that elect to cancel will receive a full cruise fare refund. If guests elect to cancel, we request that you call Carnival (1-800-327-9501) and cancel your booking.

    Well, I apparently don't get my money back because my friend is going. They are charging her a "single supplement" equal to my fare, minus the 15%....so I'm just getting the 15% back which I would have gotten anyway (plus $50!!)

    It sucks because if we both would have cancelled or if I had my own room, I would have gotten my money back, but they are really screwing me over. I've called the number and talked to a couple of different people and nobody will budge. I'm so mad! This would be my 5th cruise with Carnival. NEVER AGAIN!

    So, I hope to give them some bad PR. And I will never book a cruise during hurricane season again!

    Yeah, I'm upset. Will I get over it...defnitely. I lost $1000. I can easily put it in perspective that Wilma hurt a lot of people worse than me.

    Or maybe there was some kind of divine intervention!

    Oh BOO! That sucks! Since you dropped so much moo-lah you should be able to get it in some form or fashion. That's just plain stupid! Maybe something else good will come your way??? Hmm...

    I know. I'm starting to calm down. My best friend is a lawyer so I asked her what she thinks of it. It clearly states you get your money back.....doesn't mention any exclusions.

    Would have been cheaper to rent a car one-way and drive down but I'll bet you didnt know that in time to do it. Bummer. I can see their point and I can see yours. But I think you have the right solution. Oh, next time choose a more cooperative friend too.

    At one time I believe they had a plan where you pay them for your flight and the cruise. If your flight is cancelled that would cancel/postpone your cruise obligation too. (Maybe not...?)
    I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

    Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

    If you put it on a credit card, I would dispute the charge and they will reverse the charge. That then puts the onus on the cruise line to get it back. At least you can appeal to the credit card company.

    good point about the CC, but I paid for it awhile back...does that change anything?

    Oh god....what a scary thought!

    I've already got one girl working with me. She has a regular that's a lawyer and he's already assured her that I will get my money back.

    I decided to stay home for as long as I possibly can before I go stir crazy.

    FYI to those who don't work with me....I work almost every night!

    That really sucks. Carnival screwed me last January when I went on a cruise. We missed a port because of a medical emergency (one of the crew members got really sick, we had to wait in US waters for the coast guard helicopter to come pick him up)... Anyway, add another day and a half at sea and No St. Martins. All Carnival gave us was a $25 on board credit. Thanks...

    I've heard a lot of people fuss about Carnival... I think my next cruise will be with another company.

    I will never cruise Carnival again.

    My next cruise is with Radisson and the one after that is Crystal. They are upscale lines and cost considerably more, but are known for bending over backwards to please their customers. I am looking forward to that because I'm tired of getting the Carnival nickel and diming treatment.

    Emily, it won't help you much with what happened already, but have you considered purchasing trip cancellation or cruise insurance for future trips? I've been hearing that a lot of the cruise lines are taking a hard line stance on cancellations.

    I have a co-worker who works overtime just so he can go on a cruise every couple of years, and has said he's also had some unsatisfactory experiences with Carnival. I've always been meaning to take one myself but between the high cost, the rigid itineraries (which the cruise lines can change at their discretion), and the cancellation policies, I've been too scared to do it.

    I didn't have insurance, but the thing is they should have paid me because there was a refund policy in this case.

    I will buy insurance from now on. The trip interruption insurance would have been worth it. I could have stayed at a hotel and dined for free while waiting for my ship!

    I've also heard horror stories of people needing to be taken to a hospital. And of course they don't use an ambulance. They bring a helicopter to the middle of the ocean, which costs like $25,000.
