Default oh fukk.... not even hired yet and i might be done...

my ankle popped the other day.. not while doing anything strange.. i just squatted down.. while wearing flat shoes... to get something off a bottom shelf.

POP.. ouch for about 5 minutes.

i can walk on it fine.. but i cant move any toes very well except my big toe... and my toes keep going numb.. and my ankle hurts if i try to rotate it.

so i saw a doc today. she refered me to a specialist saying she thinks i have a pinched nerve that may require surgery. wich means id be off my feet for almost 2 months.

    fukk.

My knees do that but minus the nerve issues. Hit the gym and talk to bodybuilders about what they do/ have done for such problems.

you can always show up in a wheel chair to the club.. people may have pity and tip you even more.. haa.. jk... you will just hurt it even more by dancing.. let it rest for a few days, and then feel it out... if it feels like you could handle dancing that night.. go in and work... take advils every four hours, and apply lots of ice to get the swelling down.... usually these types of things will go away in a week's time.. hang in there....

Right, don't jump to quickly to get in and have surgery! I do that all the time, and it always seems to go away after a week or so lol. I guess i should get it checked out, but it hasn't really caused anything serious, i've been able to walk and function just fine. Same thing with my knees, they have been horrible since i was a kid since i played alot of sports and I played rough. I would like to get them checked out, but first i'm going to try some strength training for them, since i think they are lacking in that area!

Remember that Doctors have gone to school for these types of things, but they are also money hungry and get paid every time they write a prescription. They want to do the most expensive method to make you "better" which often times isn't going to make you better but keep you having problems so that they can keep making money off of you. (It's an unfortunate truth) Good luck, feel it out in a week or so and see if you're all better on your own. You're body has an uncanny way of healing itself when you do things like this to it!

I have to respectfully disagree. I'm an emergency physician and I do not get paid for writing prescriptions. Nine times out of ten, patients demand that I write prescriptions for antibiotics when they have a virus or narcotic medication when high dose Motrin, rest, and ice would take care of the problem. They also come in demanding xrays for ankle sprains or twisted knees that they are able to walk on. Just the other day, I had a lady ask about an xray for her arm because it was sore after physical therapy. She hadn't fallen on it. There had been no trauma. Her muscles were sore because of aggressive physical therapy. As for being money hungry? As of last month's billing statistics in my practice, 75% of patients and their insurance companies haven't bothered to send in a dime. I still go to work every day and treat each patient with respect and kindness even though I'm likely not going to get paid for it.

In regards to the original question, when someone suggests surgery always get a second, and even a third, opinion. In the meantime, rest, ice, anti-inflammatories like Motrin, keeping the area elevated and wrapping it with an ACE wrap are the best things you can do. Good luck.

well BoxingDoc, i have to say that i respect you. And I completely agree that to many people come in for simple problems and insist that you give them something that they don't need. But...not all doctors have the guts to tell a patient that they don't need a narcotic and that all they need to do is rest their arm. BTW That story is hilarious. Some people really do need serious help mentally. lol
I have just seen many many doctors not take me seriously and write me a prescription without doing the neccessary tests. Such as my ulcer in which no one actually knows if i have one, no tests were done to diagnose it, they just said, oh you have pain here, okay take this. And now i found out that about 80% are actually caused by a bacteria and an antibiotic will help it heal and go away!

    Ferra,

    http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic849.htm

Not sure if this will post as a hyperlink. Emedicine is a really good website and signup is free.

At this point, I would say definitive diagnosis of peptic or stomach ulcer needs to be made with an EGD...basically a camera they snake down your throat into your stomach to take a look around and do a biopsy of suspicous lesions to test for the H. Pylori bacteria. Don't worry..heavy sedation is involved.

Having really bad acid reflux myself, I can say I feel your pain. I hope one of your doctors told you the triggers to avoid. They include all the fun stuff...cigarettes, alcohol, chocolate, spicy foods, and acidic foods like OJ and tomato products. Anti-inflammatories like Motrin can also trigger an attack as well. I'd check back with them and see if an EGD would be helpful. If they say no, question as to why not.
