    Okay.
In terms of appearance 43 is probably too old. Not absolutely necessarily - but probably. This is an age oriented business - even you said that "you don't look your age". Younger is (to a degree) better.
In terms of feelings and energy - 43 is almost certainly too old. The reason that women start making more money around about 30 is because they have less energy and they put up with less bullshit and they are less worried about boys not liking them (note all the older women who say "Who cares if he likes you, do you have his money?"). But I think it can can too far in that direction - this job makes you tired.
In terms of toughness and resilience and self-esteem: you are wrong for this job. If you "can't take" rejection, this isn't right for you. If you plan to put your self-esteem into this then expect it to get bashed and busted all to hell. I wouldn't expect this to make you feel good about yourself, especially if you are getting into the business about 10 years after most women are getting out.
It is absolutely true that many women who are likely less attractive than you can make money - and you probably could too. But you don't give the impression of wanting to do this because you need money fast, but because you think it will be fun and boost your self esteem. Well, you might make money, but I wouldn't count on walking out feeling really good about yourself - honestly, I would say this even if you were 20 years old. Not being able to handle rejection or meanness is not a good character for this business; even at 20 you get a lot of rejection, meanness and general tiresomeness. At 43 you will likely get more.
Why not get dressed up and go out dancing with your friends - money is not there to validate your sexuality, that's what sex is for.

I have to agree with what was said above. About the "style" being dated.

But this usually is from women that have been dancing for a long while so they are stuck in a certain time when they were at their prime ., when the money was the best. Basically when they first started.

The best way to "NOT " date yourself is not only by the music selection but by also the hair and makeup.

Nothing is worse then seeing too much makeup on women even more so on older dancers as it seems to show their fine lines and wrinkles faster. and makes themlook deeper then they should.

& again be prepared as Colleen said with the rude comments. Im 27 and I get them now. Mostly the " you only have 2 more good years left. "... Or " you can't do this forever what are your plans ? " then they sit and pick apart whatever plan I make up for the night. And these comments come from the guys.

I worked with a dancer who was a grandmother, and one in her mid-thirties who out-earned me almost every night. And I look like a teenager to most.
One obstacle you face is that customers know you're less likely to fall for some f*cked up scam they are hoping to run on a dancer ("Come back to my hotel room/Let me touch your p*ssy, no one will see/Hey sweetheart, are you looking for someone to treat you good?"...) The majority of strip club custies are predators of some kind. Even the ones who don't realize it.
But yes, there are hot older women ("Stacy's Mom/ Has Got It Going On...."- Fountains of Wayne...LOL) And on the up side, some young men consider it an Ego Challenge Conquest to cozy up to an older woman. You may find a tadpole boyfriend in the process. (No guarantee it's permanent, but they are fun.)

43 is not too old, depending on your appearance. If your face shows that you are 43, then yes it is too old. But if you have taken care of yourself and are 43 but look 33, then you are in good shape.

Guys who are your age and older prefer dancers who are older but attractive and well kept over college aged girls.

I work bookings in the Upper Midwest in small towns and the dancers who are older and who have been working the area for years sell the most dances. The older customers like them. These rural clubs are the best bet for decent earnings for older dancers, because guys don't have as many girls to choose from, they tend to be more loyal to a particular dancer, and owners are not as picky in the looks of who they hire. These owners are more concerned about having a dancer who will be reliable, and show up every time she is booked, and who sells a lot of dances.

But in some major cities some clubs with decent business may not hire you if they see your age. They have so many dancers to choose from that they get picky. The big clubs many times feel the young girls are what brings in customers

I'll be 39 in two month's, & have danced on and off for years. Madmaxine's observation seems to be the biggest obsticle. I actually had a guy I was dancing for tell me afterwords that he thought he would prefer a dumb girl, lol. Couldn't really take that as an insult, though, as he got three dances from me first.

If you want to do it, by all means, do it. Just take really good care of yourself & don't wear yourself out.

a side note: dancing, exp starting late in life, can be brutal on your self - esteme, many custies think they can say all kinds of rude things to you that they wouldn't dare on the street.

It's too bad you're first few replies were so negative. I hope you keep reading the rest of this thread! 43 can definitely work, you just need to find the right club.

There is a woman on myspace (I forgot her user name) but she is 40 I think and a model for Trashy Lingeree. She looks damn good! I'd try it. You won't know unless you try.

Depends on motives too. I realize that you will be dancing to support yourself and your children, and the appearance of having too much responsibility will put off many customers. Funny how it works; the more you appear to need money the less you'll make.

OTOH, a woman your age will be more likely to gain and keep regulars. Prettier faces are always coming and men know this. Your maturity will work to your advantage in this respect.

I know a 43 year old dancer and she has a smokin' body! BETTER THAN MINE EVEN!

Here is the deal. If you start at 43 you need to limit your time to accomplish something. Do you need to go back to school or start a business? Can you only do it on the weekends?

You need to dance with a purpose and I totally agree spending time with your children is a good purpose and so is paying your bills. You need to throw in that little extra if you are going to start this late...

If it has been a fantasy of yours or something that you have wanted to do you need to do it! There is nothing worse than the regret of "I should have" than just doing it and getting it over with.

    I hope this helps.

You are definatlly not. By your post, I assume your look is not an issue. The only thing you have to think abaut is how much you can mentaly take it. It seams you care a lot abaut, what people think. Dancing is a tough bussines, you can loose or you can winn. If you are willing to jump into an unknown zone, go do it, but have a future plan and stick with it

Just a hint. I like to read biographies. People are sucssesfull, just becouse, they are all diferent and a lot of them has done some many wierd things in their life, just to do it. You can't judge yourself by others. Your disadvantage, can be your advantage.

Hi there, I've worked with strippers about your age (in a club atmosphere) and from my experience they generally aren't recieved well.
One of these is a friend of mine and one of the best dancers i have ever seen, and only began dancing at 36, but that didn't matter, the clubs we worked in gave her a hard time before firing her and very few customers were into it.
Maybe if you were to dance privately and market yourself as a sexy older woman, this may be prosperous, but then again if you don't look your age you may be fine in a club atmosphere.
Also from my experience guys read maturity and age as an intelligence they don't want to deal with in a strip club environment.

If you're 43 and you look like you're 43, I would say yes, it's too old. However, if you look much younger than your age, then you can be a successful dancer. I work with a lady who is 40 and she does well. She does not look her age. Customers usually guess her in the 28-32 age range.

You can be successful starting at 43. I must warn you that customers may be more brutal. I worked with a 40-year-old woman who probably averaged $700/shift. She looked 40 and had a killer body. However, many, many customers would talk about her and say that she looked "worn" and "wrinkly." This would kill my self-esteem. Thankfully, she doesn't care and continues to bank her way to heaven.

If you have the confidence, you damn well can do it. The only thing you lack is the experience of other 40-something dancers. Those women have their game down to an exact science.

If you look good and most important have a great personality, then go for it.Remember that dealing with customers is the most important part of the job. You'll definitely hear rude and nasty comments, but remember that each and every one of us do too.Try to go to a smaller club maybe so it's not so overwhelming.Don't worry about the age,I've seen women in their 50's dancing and banking more that 18-20 y o girls.

Good luck and let us know how it went!!!

I would recommend working a day shift if you are gonna start dancing. The guys tend to be older and are less critical of the age thing. The 2 women that are in their 40's that work at my club seem to do quite well, but they've also been in the game for a while. One thing I'e learned is that no matter what you look like or what your personality is, just about anybody can make money in this buisness as long as they are willing to put up with the crap that comes along with dancing.

Are you pretty and in decent shape? I say go for it and see what happens. Think of it as an experiment or just something to try for fun.
I have seen some young dancers that are ugly and out of shape and for some reason the clubs still hire them so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

At 43 with two kids are you telling me that stripping to gain self esteem and income is appealing? Sure you can do it, no doubt, but why? I hear the country needs nurses how about that? I am sure your hot enough to do it, I have tipped many a girl over 40, however, on the lapdance side, the smaller the hips the better and a tight little ass as well...to items even the most toned and hot older gal does not possess. Anyway good luck to you....is 50 to old to go through basic training as a marine?

This would be his personal opinion. There are as many who prefer a more womanly figure.

Remember what I said about rude comments? There would be your perfect example.

I agree with coleen, that is a perfect example of a man who thinks his opinion is that of all. If little hips were better i wouldn't make so much $$$$. Only you can decide if you can dance. For every guy that likes a young girl there is one that likes a mature woman. Be confident, but don't kid yourself, you know if you can cut it or not. Good luck!

Go for it! I saw this dancer in a very classy club who's like 41, or 42, who's never danced in her life and was in the exact same situation, divorce, single mom and she's making a ton of money! I think men, especially older men can appreciate an older, more mature woman who'd dancing and who looks great! My ex is 43 and when we'd go to clubs, he's always pick out the older ones because he loved seeing an older woman who took care of herself. Plus this girl had a great attitude and personality and she was very popular there, I even saw on the stripclublist.com where a customer had posted about her and said to go see her first! What do you have to lose?

My best friend is 41 and I'm 22. She's very attractive for her age and I think that if she wanted to start dancing, she could, although she just had her first baby last year, so she's not ever gonna do it since she's got a bad back, but still, she may be 41, but she's got the looks!

So I say you're not too old
