I had a 2nd degree burn with some swelling and a few blisters. After it peeled, new skin formed. It was a few tones lighter than my undamaged skin. Will it return to its normal color? If so, how long must I wait?

I hope a doctor will chime in here (hey Adrenaline...?) but my personal experience with a 2nd degree cigarette burn is...my cigarette burn healed to invisible until I got some sun and then it tanned darker than the skin around it.... : (
Oh well, it could have been worse...
It should return to its normal color, but it may take a couple of years to do so. Be sure to keep sunblock on it when you are out in the sun and/or tanning. Some people believe keeping cocoa butter and vitamin E rubbed into it will help it heal as well.
I had a burn from cooking in my sports bra ( the oil popped up on my stomach and I had a bunch of little circles all over. They were pretty bad, and I couln't go to work, as they were ugly. It took 2.5 - 3 weeks for them to completely go away. I was suprised how fast, it looked like they were there to stay. I used alot of neosporin and stayed away from the sun, tann8ing beds etc. Good luck.

i once ironed a dress while i was wearing it -- what an idiot--! right on my boob i got a half inch burn that filled w clear liquid and i popped it -- an even smarter move eh!--
it got dark pink for a coupla years , then in time, more and more invisible . good thing i wasnt a dancer at that time..! it also depends on what kind of skin you have and where u got burned. try to put omeopatic cream like calendula , will help with the scar![]()
I had a 2nd and 3rd degree burn about a square foot big on me and it healed a little lighter. Look into Mederma and Emu Oil. The more you take care of it and keep lotions on it and the like, the better it will heal up. You have to take very good care of that part of your skin, because it has now lost collagen and melanin through the burn process. There are parts of my skin that are now permanently lighter, but nothing a little makeup can't cover up. The lighter parts have largely gone away, but almost all of the burn area feels a little smoother and more tender.
Also, if it's lighter, that means you have to protect that part of your skin while in the sun or tanning. It will burn REALLY easily. Basically, when skin burns, it ages. The more you keep it lubricated and healthy, the slower that aging process goes.

every body scars differently, and in different locations, but all scars do fade with time, most of my lighter than skintone scars seem to fade in a year or so.

Whew! I'm very glad to know that it'll go away, sooner or later or even much later. Thanks y'all!
