    Default Lean Pockets/Lean Cuisine

Okay you girls are very smart on matters of the body and what not, so are these good or bad for you? And for loosing weight? I lost like 40 pounds by eating a bowl of cheerios for breakfast, and a lean pocket for dinner and lunch, but I also did an hour of cardio a day so I dunno if they even helped or not. Sorry that was a run on sentence. Okay well thanks for ur advice!

The main problem that I have with any of these foods is the sodium content. It's huge! So make sure you drink a lot of water everyday.

Im not trying to put you down but the caloric content isnt enough for a person to suffciently retain vital nutrients your body needs. Also the sodium amounts in packaged/forzen anything is very high. I really hope those 3 things werent all you were eating. Of course anyone can loose wieght eating less than 1000 cal a day.

What happened to vegetables and fruit? The cheerios are a good choice though. They are whole grain I think. Wheres the rest of a balanced diet?

I found the best way for me to enjoy processed foods (in moderation of course) is to have a freezer full of frozen veggies. I'll add a cup of veggies to my dinner, and eliminate some of the processed food as well. (ie... not eat the entire serving of the processed food)

Have you seen the new Lean Hot Pocket Ultra line? They're actually pretty good if you don't factor in the sodium. I use them to up daily protein and fiber requirements. Here's what the pizza one has:
    Calories: 200
    Fat: 6g
    Sat Fat: 2g
    Carbs: 19g
    Fiber: 7g
    Protein: 24g
    Sodium: 540mg

you and the Lean Pocket diet! You know my feelings on it.

I hate to cook too, and I know it sucks because the housemom usually doesn't have anything healthy and there is no microwave.

Here's a pretty typical day for me when I'm in diet mode:

    Breakfast (around noon):
egg beater omelet with blueberries (I like frozen ones because they are easier to keep around)
    or
small bowl oatmeal with a piece of fruit

gym(around 2), then a protein smoothie, which is frozen strawberries and blueberries with protein powder when I get home

lunch (around 6)....serving of lean protein (chicken, fish, tofu) with vegetables

dinner (around midnight)....salad with chicken and no dressing

    late night snack....piece of fruit

make sure you are drinking lots of water and taking a multi-vitamin.

If you are going to drastically cut calories, at least make sure you are eating healthy! The sodium and preservatives in those things is scary. If you want convenience but a little healthier, check out diettogo.com

I used that for awhile and the food is great!

I do that. Frozen broccoli can really round out some mac & cheese.

Lol I know Emily I am obsessed. I will try your diet. I have a problem with coming up to the dressing room and eating all her shite.

OTB: It took me about 4 months to loose that weight.

You guys are right about the sodium content. I take the One-A-Day weight smart multi-vitamin and i just bought green tea pills.

    Thanks babes!

My diet is similiar but is maintenance and Weight Watchers based. I eat Cheerios every morning. Then a soup and sandwich for lunch or a chicken/tuna salad. Then I have a Lean Cuisine for dinner. At work I usually have a granola bar for a snack. I have low blood pressure though so the extra sodium doesn't hurt me. Once a week I go out to eat dinner and have what I like, that helps to keep me from binging.

ALL PREPARED FOODS ARE WORKS OF THE DEVIL!!

Now that I got that out of my system...I have to say that most of those prepared foods are high, not just in sodium, but also in all kinds of preservatives that your body cannot process. They are extremely unhealthy for you. They are also prepared for you to pop in the microwave, so whatever good stuff was in there when it was frozen is now gone from microwave radiation.

Take an extra 2 hours at the beginning of each week and make a weeks worth of food from scratch and freeze it yourself. Buy containers that you can put in the oven. Yes, it takes longer...but, it's so much healthier for you and it's better tasting.

I see where you're coming from, but not everyone can adhere to that. And frozen veggies are VERY GOOD for you. Since not everyone can do the "exact" right thing when it comes to food, it helps to give advice on how they can make better/healthier what they're working with.

I love love love love fruits!! Never get sick and tired of eating them. I'm getting so sick of veggies....but I never get sick of grilled asparagus marinated with olive oil and garlic...mmm. Ok, when I start my diet again, i'm gonna make natural fruit juices blended with some carrot. Since i'm so sick of veggies....it's a start for me to start eating them again like I use to. Mixing them with a natural fruit juice.

And cooking mixed veggies in with brown rice, with grilled chicken or steak on the side is always good.

Here is my healthy eating routine.....

In the morning, drink a protein shake. What I do is I put 5 spoons of oatmeal with skim milk & a banana in the blender. And out comes a good shake.

Lunch, a cup of soup. Or a smoked turkey sandwich with swiss, let. tomatoe, oil & vinegar on toasted wheat.

For snacking.... fruit, fat free yogurt.

For dinner my fav. was always stir fried veggies with chicken with olive oil(no bad oils!) garlic, baby onions... and such.

Also, search for some healthier recipes online for a healthy dinner. I always have a problem on what to eat for dinner, bc the same shit can gets tiring.

Oh, you should also try making egg white omletes with veggies, cheese, and little oinion(if you like). Good for you and always tastes good. I do this when I have time, bc it takes alot of time in the morning.

shit, I can keep going in this thread giving advise and not taking my own for now... lol.

Also buy whole wheat wraps, you can always get creative with those.

cheerios are whole grain only in the legal sense. meaning, they were whole grains, before they screwed with them, stripped out all the good stuff, reinjected them with powdered fiber and vitamins (which, by the way, have no scientific evidence that they actually work, but allow the manufacturer to list the injected fiber and vitamin content on the label) and coated them with sugar. eat some kashi seven grain pilaf, or oatmeal, instead. the reason you lose weight on cheerios is because they contain no actual food in them, aside from the sugar. eating sugar dusted cardboard and nothing else will make you lose weight too, but that doesn't make it healthy.

Venus, I am coming to your place for dinner, especially if you make everything from scratch.

We always have a bunch left over.

Since I am now a full-time stay-at-home mommy, I make everything from scratch. The food tastes better and it's healthier.

Megan...First, I never said frozen veggies were not good for you. Second, people wanted more information on eating healthy...and I simply said what to do. In my experience, it wasn't that I didn't "have time" to make a week's worth of food in one day...it's that I was too lazy to do it...or I procrastinated. In fact, if you add up the amount of time that you spend in one day *not doing anything* you would have plenty of time to whip up a quick batch of something to take on the run.

Last, microwave radiation completely makes a "healthy" meal into one that's completely NOT healthy in the span of 1-2 minutes.

If you want to eat healthy, you have to MAKE the time.

Oh, and buy a steamer. You don't have to watch it...and veggies taste much better steamed. The steamer is also small enough to go anywhere and you can use it anywhere you can plug it in at. I used to take mine to work with me (in my corporate job).

All that being said, any prepared/frozen foods are too high in almost everything that's not good for you (if you can't read the ingredients...chances are it wasn't made to be digested). You can grill or bake or steam up a week's worth of chicken and then freeze them in separate baggies. Separate a serving size of veggies into their own baggies. When you're on the run, grab one baggie of each. If you cannot take a steamer with you, plan ahead and steam everything as you are getting ready to leave (about 15-20 minutes).

Eating healthy takes planning. There's no "shortcut" for truly eating healthy.
