Starting 11/1/05, I begin the challenge of writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days as part of National Novel Writing Month (.
One of my main characters is a dancer. Very little of the story will involve her time at the club or with other dancers but I would like to make those parts as authentic as possible. Although I can now chalk up my many hours (and dollars) spent in clubs as "research," I am concerned specifically about vocabulary.
Are their any "terms of art" in the business? Are their special terms dancers use between themselves for customers be they generous, tight, shy, touchy, regular, first-time, cute, ugly, etc.
Also, if you had to guess one thing that even regular customers don't know or appreciate about the business, what would that be?
Any posted or email response would be appreciated.
While I'm here - thanks for providing a sympathetic ear to talk to, eyes to gaze into (and other assorted pieces to gaze at), and those wonderful moments of fantasy.
