    Default Under eye circles

I have dark brown and blue under eye circles. I look like I never get enough sleep!Went to the doctor to see if medically everything is ok, and the only thing he came up with is that its genetic. My dad and his mom also have them, so I guess it is. Whenever I use concealer it looks cakey and grey. Any good tricks or products anyone can recommend?

Use a yellow corrector under a concealer. The yellow should mellow out the dark circles. Before you do that you may want to try out different concealers. Usually concealer looks cakey because it's too dry in consistancy or it's applied with a heavy hand. Laura Mercier and MAC make great under eye concealers that don't look icky when applied correctly.

I have seen products out in stores specifically for dark circles but I haven't tried them because I've been waiting for a review on this site.

I read Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat is good for dark circles, but its over $40 I think so I dont really want to jump the gun. Anyone used it before?

Touche Eclat is more of a highlighter than a concealer. It's fabulous for the average person with minor darkness under the eye close to the bridge of the nose, but for severe dark circles you'd have to layer it under a concealer.

I have the same problem, but I actually DON'T get enough sleep

    I use 2 things:
Sudden Change Green Tea Eye gel (can apply it on bare face or under makeup)
    Neutrogena Skin Soothing Undereye Corrector

Both are cheap but work very well. (I have tried lots of other products and these are my favorites by far)

Oooh, those things sound good, CorsicaFire -- I want to find a product that actually deals with the underlying blood vessels, those sound like they might.

Right now I just use Physicians Formula 2-concealer set (yellow/skintone) to cover up.

Using a vitamin K cream helps. I have dark circles and use Dermablend but am switching to Cover FX as I found the Dermablend was too drying.

This is the best product I have ever found that has helped. My sister had really dark blue circles under her eyes (her younger years of drug abuse) and she used this stuff 2 times a day and within a month her circles were almost non-existent. I still use it for when I have been without enough rest and you can really tell the difference when you don't use it.

If you have very dark circles, orange based concealer may work better than the yellow depending on your skin tone. Also, many people don't warm up the concealer before applying- concealers have high pigment so it's important to warm them up to prevent caking. I prefer the potted/stick variety to the liquids.

Put some on the back of your hands to warm them up, before patting them gently on the area- don't rub. Repeat until you have coverage, then go over it with foundation. Remember to use the same technique with foundation- pat on problem areas, don't rub or use sweeping motions.

thats a good tip, my concealer usually does end up cakey if I dont rub it with my finger first. I used to use Physicians Formula yellow concealer and just dab it on but the skin under the eyes is so delicate it ended up looking thick. I think by warming it up it thins it out a bit and goes on smoother. I will have to remember to do that next time!

If you have olive/tan/ darker skin tones (or even circles that are REALLY dark), you might want to try orange concealers if yellow doesn't cover up enough of the discoloration. The yellow could end up being too light for some women.

The mello orange is highly recommended. Ben Nye's products have very high pigment so it may take some getting used to before you feel comfy with it... warming that stuff up is essential. However, this is THE brand for stage/tv/movies/high fashion photo shoots. Unless a shoot calls for a certain brand of makeup (many models are under contract from makeup companies), I don't know of any full-time serious makeup artists that did not either use Ben Nye, Cinema Secrets or other industrial foundation.
